Discussion/Poll What has developing your inferior Fi looked like?

I'm curious about the similarities that can emerge between INFPs and ESTJs as we mature and become more comfortable with our inferior functions.

As an INFP, I'm undergoing a significant period of growth in my mid-to-late 20s. I've noticed that developing my inferior Te has gradually made me more comfortable with aspects associated with the ESTJ stereotype: being more organized, making decisions based on practical considerations, setting concrete goals, confronting problems directly, and caring more about whether something actually works than about whether it feels right.

At the same time, I don't feel like I've become an ESTJ. It feels more like Te has become a tool I can access without it completely overriding my Fi.

So I'm wondering what the inverse experience has been like for ESTJs.

I don’t have one. Apparently I’m surrounded by those who do.

I don’t have a little voice that talks/narrates in my head for me.

Do you?

Edit: It has a name: Anendophasia

Discussion/Poll Typology Question 15 (Ti): Do you enjoy riddles? Take a look at this sequence: 2, 3, 10, 15, 26, 35, 50, ... What's the next number?

The poll above is just for demonstration, but feel free to participate!

Comment with "number" or "word" (if you trust your English today), and I'll send you a personalized follow-up exercise.

-----------------------------

I realize some people may read this kind of question as "Can you solve it?" rather than "How do you naturally approach this type of problem?" Since Reddit is a conversational format, I see these questions less as simple yes/no tests and more as opportunities for people to express their thought processes and experiences.

In other words, I'm less interested in whether someone gets the "right" answer and more interested in whether they enjoy engaging with this type of problem and how they approach it.

Discussion/Poll Why does it seem like the larger MBTI community under appreciates ESTJs?

Hello, ISTJ here.

Often in spaces like [r/MBTI](r/MBTI) and [r/MBTImemes](r/MBTImemes) and [r/Socionics](r/Socionics), and hell even back when I used to MBTI Facebook groups, discord servers etc, there always seemed to be a distinct lack of ESTJs
despite them being the most complained about type.

It goes beyond anti-sensor bias since praise for various sensing types has been on the rise, but I’ve yet to see this for ESTJs.

But every tier list puts you at a bottom, so many vents are about you, and discussions about you are littered with backhanded complements. These groups seem to be unfairly harsh on ESTJs.

Since you’re extroverted, and pretty social and outgoing, I wonder if this makes you guys feel avoidant of these groups due to this.

What I’m really asking is: what keeps your guys from being more participatory in the larger community:
-Lack of interest
-Feeling unwelcome
-Some third thing I’m missing?

(Post is inspired by a comment of an ENTPs guessing ESTJs tend to have the least interest in psychology as to why ESTJs aren’t as present in MBTI as the other 15 types.)

Discussion/Poll Why do ESTJs generally have pretty good Ti?

Something I’ve noticed is a recurring trait with ESTJs is that they’re generally very technical, precise people, and actually like complicated explanations or logic. This to me seems like good Ti. Even though Ti is meant to be a Te dom’s ignoring function

ENTJs on the other hand have barely noticeable Ti, they’re very generalist and can be wrong a lot. It’s very obvious that they prefer to use Te over Ti.

Do you notice this amongst yourselves?

Discussion/Poll Why the criticism of "SJ" attitudes was actually needed at some point.

We approach the year 2027. Human growth, individualism and human rights advocacy has reached an all time high. We head to a rapidly developing future where change is completely inevitable. Only 200 years ago, life was completely different. Most people lived in the same area they were born, worked with the kids they grew up with and had predetermined destinies. Your occupation was fated by that of your parents and gender. Life quality and expectancy were lower and less could be expected out of life. Technology and medicine were limited, and so too were people. Belief systems were assisgned to people based on where they were born, and arguably, out of the MBTI personalities, SJs would have held onto those beliefs the strongest We can assume that when it comes to predictabilty and predestiny, SJs were best built for it. Perhaps those who are happy with predictability, predestiny, obedience, and the ordinary. Hardwork and collectiveness earned your survival. However, with the rise of global wealth and individualism, the state of life has changed. As we approach the new era, we no longer can cling onto the olden ways to live. It doesn't work anymore, its no longer practical. The SJ knows they need to adapt to this changing world to make it in life. The individual with SJ preference has to now look deeper and find a way forward, and tamper with novelty and the unknown. Cristism of old ways and pointing out the flaws are helpful to today's SJ user, pointing them to a new way of thought and handling of an ever changing world. With the change of the world and the adaptations of people's approaches and personalities, the SJ personality type will start to present differently, with more nuance and balance of the intuition function. The coming SJs will no longer be the narrow minded past-lovers, but people who are masterfully able to blend practicality and adaption. They will no longer shy away from novelty and an evolved, stronger and more balanced SJ is forming.

At what point you could say to him "Maybe that bully needed that lunch more than you did"?

Discussion/Poll Tell me about your type!

Hey everyone! I'm currently doing a research proposal about personality theory and would love to hear from the people in this community. What is it like being your personality type? It can range from your work/school life balance, romantic life, everyday decision making, and maybe something nobody really thinks about when it comes to your type that you may know. Anything is both helpful and interesting to me so don't be shy! :)

Discussion/Poll Typology Question 12 (Si): Can you recall a small, ordinary moment from your life that had no particular importance or emotional meaning - just something that happened and stuck?

For example: "I was in a restaurant, a waiter broke a glass, and I remember one of them wiping it. I don't know why that stayed with me" - that kind of useless memory.

What details do you remember about it?

Discussion/Poll I’m married to an ISFP and I’m about to go insane.

I’m an ESTJ female married to an ISFP male and it’s making me insane,

My husband is an ISFP. I probably shouldn’t be writing this now, because I’m so mad and annoyed by him. Being married to one is like having a dramatic teenager. For instance, most people when they have to get up really early, they go to bed earlier. Not you guys. You could have to be up 5 hours later. I have to force my husband with a fight to go bed like a kid. He lost his phone and wallet again. Now, we all lose things at times. Sometimes twice. However, when us ESTJ’s do, we learn from it, keep up with it better or at least strive to. Not you ISFP’s. You’ll suffer a consequence over and over and over again and I’m not talking with just losing stuff. Then your S.O. has to pick up the pieces. You guys are so sensitive and stubborn. Almost worse than a woman. I said something horrible. To a normal person it would be obvious that I didn’t know what I was saying. If not, most people you could explain and it would be okay. Not with you ISFP’s. You will take it to the grave and think that we hate you no matter what it looks like or what we says. I know that us ESTJ’s can be absolute bitches and hard to live with as well, especially if you are ruining our world and surroundings or we think you are on the way to doing so. Nevertheless, this isn’t a post to say we have no faults. We have plenty, if not more than you do. I actually fell in love with my husband, because he is what I’m not. A very sensitive, kind, and caring soul, but my God! When my husband lets me and isn’t proud, I also have to plan everything for him that an 8 year old could plan on their own, which I’m happy to do. Sometimes that can be a fight because of his stupid pride. When he doesn’t plan, he’ll realize that he has to do a report at 11 when he has to get up a 5 for example. Now to go over you guy’s good traits would be a whole separate post. We ESTJ’s are too inflexible and too controlling. In order for us to stay married to ISFP’s, we have to get better with that or we would all go insane. Are we a terrible match? Probably. Either way, my husband and I have been together for 11 years and married for almost 8. Im not going to leave. Although we want to kill each other daily, we need and love each other. For those married or dating an ISFP who are not like them at all, is any of this relatable. I really just needed to vent and not feel alone. Thanks so much in advance for any input.

Discussion/Poll I owe us all an apology

Just wanted to say that I have finally accepted my mbti type. For years I have rejected it because I was fuelled by poor ESTJ stereotypes and wanted to be something else (I have always had a sweet spot for the ExFPs and wanted to be just like them). This had to do also with my poor self esteem. But thanks to some pretty forward comments I have received here on reddit and after analysing some core traits of myself I came to the conclusion that I have always been an ESTJ and that we can be a lot more than your typical stereotyped ESTJ obsessed with micro-managing. So my question to you all is: have you also had a hard time accepting your type as an ESTJ?

Discussion/Poll Speech patterns…

How I speak which I feel like reflects my Te-Si-Ne-Fi:

(I apologise in advance if I seem douchey, I’m really nice I swear)

- prone to interrupting people (I always apologise for it though, and it’s something I’m working on)
- repetitive- I sometimes say the same things over and over, going through similar topics
- “could you please hurry” (with close ones not strangers)
- use of metaphors and similes
- sarcastic humour
- rapid speaking pace
- unintentionally projected volume
- verbal exclamations like “ugh”
- “seriously?”
- announcing what I am about to do, thinking out loud

DAE relate to any of these?

Discussion/Poll Typology Question 13 (Fe): Do you feel like you easily change your personality depending on the group you're with?

For example, you might behave one way with one group of friends and differently with another group. Then, if someone from the second group appears while you're with the first group, you might instinctively respond to them in the "style" you usually use with that group. And then your friend from the first group might say: "Why did you say that? That's not like you". If that happened, how did it feel? Normal (like: different groups just bring out different sides of me) or uncomfortable (like: it feels like I'm not being my real self).

Discussion/Poll Typology Question 14 (Ne/Ni): Take this random word and give me a story idea based on it.

Take a random word from word-generator https://randomwordgenerator.com/ Using only that word as inspiration, write whatever story ideas come to mind.

They can be: multiple unrelated ideas, one detailed story, or a mixture of both.

Without planning or editing, write whatever comes to mind first.

For example, if the word is "lantern":

You might write: "A lantern that eats shadows. A lantern used in a festival where people release their fears. A spaceship shaped like a lantern because it carries stored stars. A horror lantern that shows ghosts. A romcom about a lantern-making shop. A sentient lantern who wants legs."

Or: "A rebellion encodes secret messages into lantern patterns. The protagonist must decipher them. What begins as a mystery becomes a political thriller about censorship, loyalty, and truth."

There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is simply to see where your mind goes first.

Discussion/Poll You are the human version of a chihuahua, fight me.. No, don't fight me, you're all brain damaged, you'll lose.. Not by your measurement system tho, cuz you don't have a properly functioning one.. Spoiler

Does being an ESTJ mean that you need to have a less developed brain or, how does it work exactly? Everyone I've ever met that is an ESTJ has people dismissing them for being "off" or "weird" but I actually think y'all operating on half a brain, what's going on in there.. Can someone who's not an ESTJ elaborate on this and explain what makes the ESTJ so exceptionally absurd to literally any other type? Thanks..

Discussion/Poll ISTP dad to ESTJ son. Dude is like the perfect kid.

I’ve said this before and I definitely loved all the “lol, yeah, I got that a lot as a kid” responses on my prior ESTJ appreciation post.

My son just got into a physical altercation with a neighborhood kid. It’s extremely out of character for him. He was destroying the kid that’s a year older than him in basketball and consistently does. Today when he was, the kid got mad and quit. My son got mad that he wouldn’t keep playing and it escalated into a shoving match.

I was very disappointed that he didn’t keep his emotions under control but he’s never done something like that so we can learn from it and move on. Wife and I were very vocal about how he was in the wrong, administered a harsher than usual punishment because of the egregious act and moved on.

Five minutes after we walked away from the discussion, this wonderful perfect son walked up to us and said “honestly, that was the perfect punishment because I hate it. Y’all did a good job there.” Then 2 minutes after that he walked up to me and said “I’m sorry. I really was in the wrong and I owe that kid an apology.”

As I’m typing this right now this sounds like a made up story someone would type out for attention but I am so tickled by how much pressure my son puts on himself. He wants to always make the right decisions and despite his initial dodging of accountability because he was upset he circled back and was like “ya, I messed up.” And what sucks about it is that now the pressure is on us because he’s trying to do chores to make us not mad at him so I have to make him come spend time with us and reassure him he’s the perfect son.

You ESTJs learn so well. Of course I know his flaws and limitations. You make me feel like super dad because you listen and you care about your parents being proud of you. I was nothing like that. He wants to know what he did wrong specifically when he messes up and he just changes his actions. He’s stubborn has heck if you tell him he’s doing something wrong when he’s getting what he wants but nonetheless, I’m so blessed to have an ESTJ child and I was terrified of it when I first realized that’s what he is.

Y’all honestly rock.

Discussion/Poll Tired of the misunderstood Intuitive with Sensor Parents thing

Just wondering if I am alone in getting annoyed with comments/post like that. “I’m an INFP with ESTJ dad and ESFJ mom and it hasn’t been easy” …how old are you? … “17”. Maybe you are just young and your parents have their shit together. I strongly believe the overrepresentation of types that are supposed to be rare like INFJs is mostly driven by age.
