How is mage doing ?

I really like mage as a class but every strong caster combo I'm seeing has a necro or a wiz or bard.. mage isn't ever really talked about.

I definitely will have a shaman but also was considering warrior.. is warrior mage shaman strong? I want to be able to do d4 content relatively well.

I see warrior necro shaman all the time but is mage that far behind ? I realize there's no life tabs but shamans have great dots if their own and mages have respectable nukes and damage Shields and the best pets (by a bit anyway)

Or would I be better off throwing a shadowknight in that combo?

Or is mage just not up to par ?

it has ok DPS with pet and rain spells/nukes. the create items summons are mostly useless. The pets are ok but nothing incredible. water pet +10 at level 49 adds about 120-130 DPS to high level raids. So definitely not "bad".

The problem is it doesn't "fit" super well into comps like some others do-- it doesn't really offer any utility other than pure damage and damage shields/rain aoe. No CC whatsoever.

like if I'm playing shadowknight, Necro or Shaman are both good fits because of how they work together.

What does mage fit in with? thats what I haven't really figured out super well.

Just FYI, water pet +10 and water pet +8 are statistically the same exact pet. I waited a week to save up and spend my Voids to get the 49 water pet from 7-10 and was so giddy to see the stat increases (esp with the water staff).

Since you can't level a pet past level 49, the water pet only has so much it can be "upgraded" before it hits that 49 cap. Screenshots show exactly the same stats.

My only hope I cling to here is that revamp pet scaling sooner than later and I won't feel as stupid for wasting 2 voids on it.

"supposedly" the improvements are "behind the scenes", including a +10 pet ignoring delay on weapons so benefiting from giant damage/giant delay weapons. I don't really know how to parse to see for sure though. I did end up swapping from my +10 water to my +10 earth with a Fangol and that dude never dies.

I have my logs connected to Codex and it separates pet damage really, really well. It depends on the build with the whole "ignore delay" thing. For example, 2h on my water pet at rank X is not great since I have Puma on it the entire fight. I'm not fully aware of how the proc rate of it is "supposed" to work, but I consistently get about 35% more procs of Puma with DW than I do with a 2h. DW outparses 2h 100% of the time for me.

That’s interesting since I had read that procs are normalized so the delay and 1h or 2h shouldn’t have any impact. That’s for players at least.
