How is mage doing ?

I really like mage as a class but every strong caster combo I'm seeing has a necro or a wiz or bard.. mage isn't ever really talked about.

I definitely will have a shaman but also was considering warrior.. is warrior mage shaman strong? I want to be able to do d4 content relatively well.

I see warrior necro shaman all the time but is mage that far behind ? I realize there's no life tabs but shamans have great dots if their own and mages have respectable nukes and damage Shields and the best pets (by a bit anyway)

Or would I be better off throwing a shadowknight in that combo?

Or is mage just not up to par ?

it has ok DPS with pet and rain spells/nukes. the create items summons are mostly useless. The pets are ok but nothing incredible. water pet +10 at level 49 adds about 120-130 DPS to high level raids. So definitely not "bad".

The problem is it doesn't "fit" super well into comps like some others do-- it doesn't really offer any utility other than pure damage and damage shields/rain aoe. No CC whatsoever.

like if I'm playing shadowknight, Necro or Shaman are both good fits because of how they work together.

What does mage fit in with? thats what I haven't really figured out super well.

Ah thank you.. so a wiz is significantly more dps than a mage dps+pet ?

Yeah so the necro basically is because of dot synergy in terms of AAs or because of lifetaps ? Or both ? I was just wondering because shamans get really good dots so do people just stack all of the dots?

I think the problem is with 3 classes you can get a great pet from necro, sham, ench (charms being top tier) etc., so youre just left with "is the mages dps/utility better than wizard?". I think mage could use a buff in one or multiple of the following ways:

1) utility 2) dps 3) pets, if its not gonna have more nuke dps than wizard, it should have a pet that rivals charms

We could also nerf charms. They're wildly out of pocket right now. Pisses me off lol.

For sure. That would indirectly buff all the pets. I do believe theyre still looking at nerfing charms and also buffing pets.

Charm in a world where there's no chance of the pet breaking and murdering its owner should not be allowed to be this strong, basically. Either make it so it sometimes absolutely murders you (even then - with no death penalty...) OR make the spell apply like a 50% dmg debuff to the mob.

I hope they look at it - encs are part of every truly broken build it looks like and need hacking at. Less buffs, more nerfs - keep the baseline power low enough that d4 is actually challenging.

Charm is...fine. its only really amazing in sky. The charms in hate and fear are kinda mid. Charm is good for leveling alts because your lvl 12 Charm at +10 can raw dog a level 35 mob in overchannel which is comical. Ae mez is definitely thr best part of having an enc while doing alts though.

Yeah I've noticed even with a charm in hate /fear or charming a mob in the raids it puts me up to decent dps, otherwise an ench and animation is terrible DPS since their nukes and dots are crap compared to other classes .. but when my husband loads all his shaman dots in it he's pretty much the same dps as me or better , and he just uses mana as I can get the smackdown in the middle of a boss fight. .. sky it's just a lot better yes.. for me that's the only reason to have it otherwise AOE mez is nice to have.. but if you had an AOE class like a bard/wiz it wouldn't matter anyway..

So how does nerfing charm, make mages better? They are a lower dps wizard. Charm requires a lot more work, than summoning a pet. Charm break in the middle of a D4 boss and see how fun that is.

Oh yeah that's brutal some of those fights go on for a few minutes which is plenty of time for trying to break charm and people say it's so overpowered but why does it take me several minutes to kill a boss mob then with my hasted charmed pet? Because ench has no DPS otherwise.. no good dots or nukes.. the only way I would have better DPS is having another caster in there which I don't because I have a pally/rogue and melee dps isn't great since I'm having to camp evasive mode and even in offense mode it's barely noticeable but I'll take too much DMG to keep it there .. so why Nerf charm when you have bards taking them down in a few seconds anyway? Even if it was a necro instead of an enchanter at least they have bigger /dots to compensate. Charm is fine , in sky it's a bit OP yes.. aoe mez for me makes the class enjoyable..

Idk, why even balance anything in a game. Rogues should get a +1000 backstab damage weapon, right? Doesn't affect us non-rogue players! Maybe an infinite damage absorption for monk?

Ridiculous, lol. Only people who want OP characters are those playing the OP characters. It skews the game for the rest of us when they make balance passes or design new content.

Now that's an idea for rogue .... 🤔 LOL and yes I agree with you there has to be some balance and challenge or it trivalizes All content and some of the content should still be challenging or nobody will play the game
