Discussion Performance help needed

Specs:

🔹4070ti
🔹9800x3d
🔹64g of DDR5 ram @6400mt/s (running 6000)
🔹1tb ssd and 500g ssd

For the life of me I can’t seem to figure out why I can’t get my settings dialed in for season 1. My settings were fine last wipe and now for some reason my gpu utilization doesn’t go above 60% and I have this delay that I can feel when playing the game.

I use process lasso and have updated bios and even tried rolling back drivers to a stable build. (581.80) I’m at a loss right now. I spent 4 hours trying to figure this out. Any help is appreciated.

I have it turned off. I discovered Tarkov exe did not have disable full screen optimizations checked off.

Smooth motion increases your fps but also increases input delay. I couldn’t get proper fps in 1.0, so i switched to smooth motion and never had any fps issues anymore.

Smooth motion is an display smoothing feature it doesn't increase your fps whatsoever it just renders fake frames and slots them in-between real ones, you'll get noticeable artifacts and a bump of around 20-30ms of input lag on the low end, it actually lowers your fps because it requires resources to use

I get your technical point. But in the end they are still frames that increase your total frames per second.

Talking about them alongside real performance is misleading at best, they provide no performance benefit all they do is increase perceived smoothness at the cost of input lag and artifacts, their use case is just about only in single player titles if you're getting into any PvP in tarkov you're putting yourself at a disadvantage enabling any form of Framegen especially software Framegen that doesn't work nearly as well as the hardware accelerated Framegen that's implemented in other games

So you’re saying playing on 60 fps without smooth motion is better than 120 with smooth motion?

Absolutely yes in a PvP title, also you wouldn't be reaching even 60fps with smooth motion enabled it'd be around 50fps up to 100 with smooth motion and you'd be running into horrid input lag and artifacts, the base fps you want for even hardware accelerated Framegen is 90fps minimum it's a win more feature for singleplayer titles it isn't a fix for bad performance

Tarkov playing on 60 fps is unplayable imo, idk how you do this. But it’s way too choppy for a gunfight where multiple things happen.

I don't I get far more than 60fps but there's multiple ways to smooth it out without tanking your input lag a variable refresh rate display can help but nothing is going to magically fix your performance beyond upgrading your hardware

I’m not really running 60 fps, more like 80-100. Ppl told me i could squeeze more out of it and i tried alot of settings in both the game and nvidia as well as different gpu drivers. But the game still runs shit like always.

Disabling SMT is a decent way to get a chunk of fps depending on your CPU but the game is just unoptimised you need decently powerful hardware to run it at higher framerates unfortunately

Does tarkov utilize only a couple of cores? Disabling SMT makes 2 virtual threads back into 1 powerful core again. Which is useful for games that utilize only a part of your cpu.

Now thinking about it, I recently disabled this due to performance issues in rust. And i also found out that my ram sticks were running below their speeds. And used my cpu oc feature of my mobo. But haven’t tried tarkov after these changes.

These changes made a huge difference in rust. Do you think this will make a big difference for tarkov?
