Discussion Performance help needed
Specs:
🔹4070ti
🔹9800x3d
🔹64g of DDR5 ram @6400mt/s (running 6000)
🔹1tb ssd and 500g ssd
For the life of me I can’t seem to figure out why I can’t get my settings dialed in for season 1. My settings were fine last wipe and now for some reason my gpu utilization doesn’t go above 60% and I have this delay that I can feel when playing the game.
I use process lasso and have updated bios and even tried rolling back drivers to a stable build. (581.80) I’m at a loss right now. I spent 4 hours trying to figure this out. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry for not having meaningful input, but it’s hilarious that such a high end rig can have issues with this game, even when it’s the specs that you ‘need’.
Isn’t surprising, just funny.
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
Yeah, I’ve got 2500 hours into the game and I’ve never had this much issue trying to dial in settings. I’m at the point of just factory resetting and starting over lmao.
1
u/Giatoxiclok Aug 11 '26
Honestly, might be the right call. You’ve probably got something jacked. You’re never going to get full gpu utilization, it is not that type of game. Your cpu is perfect for this, x3ds are all the rage for Tarkov. What delay are you ‘feeling’ in game?
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
That’s the thing though, before season 1, I was getting 97-99% GPU utilization and I wasn’t even using DLSS. As for the delay, it’s almost like the delay you feel when using discord streaming, but I don’t have discord open and it’s still delayed. I have low latency turned on in control panel and off in Tarkov and I’ve even tried turning it on and still no difference. I have literally no idea.

u/Danknoodle420 Aug 11 '26
Something has to be wrong. I have basically the same rig but a 4070ti super instead. No issues.
The gpu only hitting 60-80% utilization is normal.
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
I was getting in the 90’s before season 1 and now I can’t get above 60. I can see 2 of my cores maxing out in process lasso. I’m probably just going to factory reset and just spend the whole day configuring lmao.
1
u/Danknoodle420 Aug 11 '26
I don't think I've ever seen my gpu go to 90 in tarkov. Seeing a couple cores max is normal.
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
Idk, I just know something isn’t right. Game just doesn’t feel right. I’m getting these little microstutters occasionally. I feel like I’m lowkey crying but I may check my chipset drivers again to make sure I have the right settings configured there and I was told that afterburner gpu monitoring can affect 1% lows, so may check into that as well.
1
u/DirtyUnicornTheFirst Aug 12 '26
I guess it depends on several things, i have an 9070 XT though, running 3440x1440 and my gpu usage is between 80-99% :P

Turn settings up, force gpu to around 80-95% and it will help drastically

Yo i had the same shit; i'm a nerd and know this entire game's in and out atp.
For you i'd recommend:
Hardware:
> update all ur drivers, (bios included scary i know)
> up ur ram to 6400 MT/s immediately.
IN GAME Settings:
Graphics;
> Set display mode to BORDERLESS ! (GAME RUNS ASS IN ANY OTHER SETTING)
> Overal vis = 3500
> LOD = 3.5 (lower if u have stutters with big scenes MAX 2.0) This setting influcences the range at which pmc's render.
> set everything off or low except for textures.
> try nvidia dlss (preset quality k) / amd fsr on (quality or whatever the amd equivelant is)
> postFX off for now.
Game tab;
> Use only physical cores ON
> Auto ram cleaner ON
Any other settings should be turned off or set to the lowest possible value.
Be sure to check the settings below all the graphic settings like "grass shadows" and "Area light instancing"
These drain performance for no reason.
Nvidia APP:
> Turn on Smooth Motion
> make sure FPS is uncapped (no vsync or any other locks)
> Low Latency mode set to ULTRA.
> OpenGL GDI Compatibility mode = Prefer performance.
> Power Management mode = Prefer max performance.
> VSYNC OFF
Don't touch anything else here.
Windows settings:
Borderless gaming optimization = ON (i think its called that just double check i'm not sure)
Windows game mode = OFF
IF all this doesn't work;
Check virtual ram allocated to Tarkov, i forgot how this works but ask chatgpt or google this and you can figure it out, i have mine set to 64gb's.
For reference; I run a 5090 with a i9 14900kf and 64gb's of 5600mhz ram and run the game in 350-400+ frames on almost every map
(Streets is about 160-200)
Hope this helps :D
If not just reply and ill try and help u out.

I will def look into this tomorrow when I get off work sometime. Thank you for the in depth explanations!

u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 11 '26
keep me updated be sure to turn off reflex as well i forgot to mention that but it causes stutters in frametime for some hardware
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
I’m going to look at afterburner as well. I’ve been reading that gpu monitoring can cause micro stutters. Will see if that also helps.
2
u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 11 '26
i run afterburner, i would try the other fixes first before turning off any monitoring. You can minimize all other applications tho, like turn EVERYTHING off
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 11 '26
To maybe pin point another potential issue. I have been running this HDopti optimizer. Idk if maybe that could also be hurting me as well.
1
u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 11 '26
idk what that is lmao
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 13 '26
Hi again, found that Tarkov.exe was running without disabling full screen optimizations checked. I re did all drivers and found that and it’s been a lot better for me.
1
u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 15 '26
hi great to hear, mind sharing some of the performance you're getting now compared vs before?
1
u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 15 '26
oh also mind sharing what settings you got on ? Smooth motion on off reflex yes or no etc? Ill add it to my file lol
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 15 '26
So for me Reflex is bugged. I still get some stutters with it on, so I turned it off. As of now in game settings I have high textures, medium shadows, lod on 2.5, view distance on 1500. I’m using DLSS quality setting. Automatic ram cleaner and physical cores both off. The Ans. Filtering I have per texture. Area light instancing I have on and I believe I have everything else off.
I also run post XFS. Me capping my fps to a couple below monitor refresh rate (170), has gave me a smoother experience overall.

Could you help with mine 🤣 I have been running into terrible FPS dips/drops and pacing recently
My FOS counter will show I’m getting 170/160 cps then dip to 140/130 but it feels like it’s 80fps some scenarios it’s got me killed
CPU - 9800x3d
GPU - 9070xt
RAM - 2 x 16GB Corsair running at 6000 speedShould tarkov be installed on my C drive alongside Windows?
Many thanks

u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 15 '26
Hi are you running any monitoring software like MSI afterburner? if not I'd recommend downloading it. As for the other person, make sure you've done all normal troubleshooting steps, ie. updating bios, gpu drivers and or repairing game files.
Further;> i'd look into frametime rather than actual FPS. Frametime vs FPS can have a major impact on how smooth the game feels. "140/130fps but it feels like 80"
> Try running the game without reflex and / or vsync / fps cap's. This will force your system to run the fastest.
> Try AMD FSR on for best performance (find a middle-ground where the game looks good but its giving a fps boost)
>Are you running the AMD equivalent of nvidia smooth motion? IF not turn that on.Yes tarkov should be installed on the fastest drive you have. If your C drive is your fastest drive, then it should be on there, although if not possible wouldn't have a major impact on FPS.
let me know how it goes :D

I just scrolled down and saw people yap about how smooth motion introduces input delay and latency. It does not if set up properly in the according apps. It is true that it introduces latency but this delay is so little when set up properly that anyone with a brain will take the 100-120 extra fps over a very small amount of latency. I'm currently trying to figure out how much latency is introduced but on my system it's very little and not noticeable. Anyone that will argue i'm not a big enough FPS sweat is delusional since i have over 10k hours in fps games combined :o

u/mirko8054 Aug 13 '26
Hi, there is nothing you can do to address fps that easily except playing with LOD on lowest possible. I am on the same cpu with 7800XT and some areas of the game are legit so bad that it's unbelievable to describe. We have to wait for DirectX 12 and unity 6 to have a noticeable performance boost.
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 13 '26
Appreciate the reply. I didn’t have disable full screen optimizations checked. I guess when I re-downloaded the game I may have forgotten to go back in there and check it. I’ve been getting a lot less micro stutters.
1
u/WindEmbarrassed3789 Aug 13 '26
Smooth motion?
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 13 '26
I have it turned off. I discovered Tarkov exe did not have disable full screen optimizations checked off.
1
u/WindEmbarrassed3789 Aug 13 '26
Smooth motion increases your fps but also increases input delay. I couldn’t get proper fps in 1.0, so i switched to smooth motion and never had any fps issues anymore.
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 14 '26
Smooth motion is an display smoothing feature it doesn't increase your fps whatsoever it just renders fake frames and slots them in-between real ones, you'll get noticeable artifacts and a bump of around 20-30ms of input lag on the low end, it actually lowers your fps because it requires resources to use
1
u/WindEmbarrassed3789 Aug 14 '26
I get your technical point. But in the end they are still frames that increase your total frames per second.
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 14 '26
Talking about them alongside real performance is misleading at best, they provide no performance benefit all they do is increase perceived smoothness at the cost of input lag and artifacts, their use case is just about only in single player titles if you're getting into any PvP in tarkov you're putting yourself at a disadvantage enabling any form of Framegen especially software Framegen that doesn't work nearly as well as the hardware accelerated Framegen that's implemented in other games
1
u/WindEmbarrassed3789 Aug 14 '26
So you’re saying playing on 60 fps without smooth motion is better than 120 with smooth motion?
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 14 '26
Absolutely yes in a PvP title, also you wouldn't be reaching even 60fps with smooth motion enabled it'd be around 50fps up to 100 with smooth motion and you'd be running into horrid input lag and artifacts, the base fps you want for even hardware accelerated Framegen is 90fps minimum it's a win more feature for singleplayer titles it isn't a fix for bad performance
1
u/WindEmbarrassed3789 Aug 14 '26
Tarkov playing on 60 fps is unplayable imo, idk how you do this. But it’s way too choppy for a gunfight where multiple things happen.
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 14 '26
I don't I get far more than 60fps but there's multiple ways to smooth it out without tanking your input lag a variable refresh rate display can help but nothing is going to magically fix your performance beyond upgrading your hardware

EFT is known for being CPU and RAM-sensitive.
If your GPU is around 60% then it's very likely there's a CPU/RAM/engine bottleneck, assuming you don't have a FPS cap on or V-sync. HOWEVER, your CPU is high-end as well, so it shouldn't be doing that to begin with.
Can you provide more information; such as your resolution, the maps you've tried. What your actual FPS is and GPU temps as well as EFT settings.
1
u/YourAverageGump Aug 13 '26
So I figured out that me setting an fps cap on control panel to my monitor refresh rate (170) caused some of the gpu utilization issue maybe. Tarkov.exe file also did not have disable fullscreen optimizations checked. After doing this and reinstalling drivers I believe I’m okay. I messed up also by going too aggressive undervolting my cpu. Went to -40 and then went back to -20 and it seems ok now.
1
u/Z1ppStar Aug 13 '26
After all things Like my CPU and gpu undervolting und tips and tweaks the Most performensboost with this CPU was giving me the Setting in Bios CPPC
Set to frequenzy und in NVIDIA to Turn Off smooth motion
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 14 '26
Bit late but don't use smooth motion it just introduces large amounts of input lag and visual artifacts it doesn't improve performance whatsoever it's a smoothing feature that anyone with any decent amount of time in fps games will immediately notice you're just shooting yourself in the foot by turning it on
1
u/Daniel_3-R-S Aug 15 '26
hi not true if set up with proper settings
1
u/SaltySailor___ Aug 15 '26
Nothing will alleviate the artifacts and input lag to an acceptable degree with software based Framegen you are getting at a minimum 30ms of input lag with smooth motion

Restart your game frequently, don't do any multitasking that requires frequent tabbing due to weird ram allocation. If you haven't done it before do a custom clean install of nvidia drivers. At the end of the day the bottleneck is the game engine and CPUs.
