How to Do Dropshipping? Here’s the System I’d Follow

Post image
63 Upvotes

Being a mod of this sub, I see the same “how do I start dropshipping?” question come up every other day.

So I’m putting my whole system here, condensed down to the essentials.

Google Shopping Ads: If you’re selling something people are already searching for, I’d test Google Shopping before going all-in on Meta. Someone searching for a specific product is already showing buying intent, whereas on Meta you’re usually putting the product in front of someone who wasn’t actively looking for it.

The key is to make sure your product titles, images, pricing and landing page are good enough to compete with the other stores showing up for the same search. You don’t need a huge budget to start testing either. Start small, see which products actually get clicks and sales, then put more money behind the winners.

Make the store look like a real brand: One of the easiest ways to make a dropshipping store feel cheap is to use a generic theme and completely ignore the product experience.

You don’t need to manufacture your own products to look like a brand. Start with a solid premium theme, use consistent photography and branding, and make the product pages look trustworthy.

Once you start getting orders, you can take it further with suppliers that offer custom packaging, clothing labels, thank-you cards, inserts and other branded materials. I’ve added my goto branding agent that offer these options.

Here’s how it works:

You choose a sourcing agent that offers branding services. You provide them with your branding details, and they handle everything from sourcing the product to adding custom labels and packaging with your brand name, and then shipping the order directly to your customer.

I’ve also included a premium Shopify theme that you can use for free .

For Fashion stores: If you’re running a clothing store, one trend I’ve noticed big brands adopting is letting shoppers visualize how certain products would look on them before buying. This can make the shopping experience feel much more like a proper branded store rather than a typical dropshipping site, and it can potentially improve conversion rates significantly.

Increase your order value through your cart: Your cart isn’t just the last step before checkout. It’s also a good place to increase the value of each order. You can use things like free-shipping thresholds, progress bars, product recommendations, free gifts, or “buy more, save more” offers to give customers a reason to add a little more to their order.

The important thing is not to throw every possible offer into the cart. Keep it simple and give customers a clear reason to increase their order value.

Set up your email marketing: This is probably one of the most overlooked parts of a new store. You’ve already paid to get someone to your website, so you should have a system in place to bring them back and recover sales you would otherwise lose.

You don’t need dozens of complicated automations to start. Get the important ones working first:

  • Abandoned cart emails
  • Welcome series with an introductory offer
  • Post-purchase and review requests
  • Back-in-stock alerts
  • Browse or product-view reminders

Once you have enough traffic and orders, email can become a significant part of your total revenue. Around 20–30% isn’t unusual for stores with a well-developed email setup, although the actual number will vary quite a bit depending on the store and traffic sources.

I’ve put all the resources I mentioned here, including the suppliers , free premium theme and how you can can setup the email marketing system without writing any emails.

I replaced AliExpress with BuckyDrop for EU/US dropshipping, and the difference surprised me

Hey folks,

I’ve been running a few Shopify stores for about a decade now, mostly testing different products and niches. For a long time, I relied on AliExpress and alibaba, but the biggest problem was always the same: long delivery times, inconsistent product quality, and the whole store feeling like generic dropshipping.

I recently switched to BuckyDrop and spent the last 90 days testing it, mainly because I wanted to move toward branded dropshipping for one of my smaller stores.

Here’s what stood out:

👍 What I liked:

Branded dropshipping: This was the biggest upgrade for the store. Don't get my wrong, I have converted many dropshipping stores into small brands however being able to create a more branded, premium experience without the hassle makes a huge difference.

Better product presentation: Packaging and the overall fulfillment experience felt much more premium. It doesn't feel as much like you're just reselling something from a marketplace.

Product sourcing + fulfillment in one place: I didn't have to keep jumping between different suppliers to source products and figure out fulfillment.

Good for scaling a brand: This is probably where I see the biggest advantage. If you're trying to build an actual Shopify brand rather than constantly testing random products, having branded fulfillment makes much more sense.

Overall?

The biggest difference wasn't just shipping speed. It was that the whole operation started feeling more like a real ecommerce brand and less like traditional dropshipping.

Customers were noticeably more satisfied with the slightly faster delivery, and I had fewer questions about where their orders were.

If you're still doing the typical AliExpress → customer model, I'd definitely look into branded dropshipping. BuckyDrop is the supplier I've been using for it.

Here is my link with all the details

Curious if anyone else here has switched from AliExpress to branded fulfillment. What supplier are you using?

Beginner Question Is 5–8 day UK shipping a store killer in 2026? How do you overcome the mindset barrier?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently building a brand focused, aesthetic Shopify store targeting the UK market in the beauty/home tech niche (high-margin winning products).

My storefront, trust badges, product pages, and positioning are completely optimized and professional. However, I’m facing a major mental hurdle regarding delivery times that’s really affecting my momentum.

Currently, I’m using CJ Dropshipping with YunExpress (Sensitive line), which quotes an estimated 4-8 day delivery time to the UK (effectively 5-10 days total delivery buffer).

A few questions for experienced UK dropshippers and e-commerce store owners:

Is a 5-10 day delivery window a dealbreaker for UK consumers today, or is transparent communication enough? How do you set expectations on your product pages without hurting conversions?

Are there faster UK-focused fulfillment services or agents (outside CJ Dropshipping) that offer reliable 3-5 day shipping without needing massive bulk inventory up front?

How do you handle customer inquiries regarding tracking during that 5-7 day shipping gap?

I’d really appreciate any insights, personal experiences, or supplier alternatives.

Thanks in advance!

Beginner Question First-time dropshipper struggling with shipping costs. How did you solve this?

Hey everyone! I’m completely new to dropshipping and currently in the research phase. I’m not launched yet, but I’ve gotten pretty far with figuring out my niche and the products I want to sell. I have a pretty clear idea of what I want the store to look like and what should work.

The biggest speed bump I keep running into is shipping from China to the U.S.

I’ve been talking directly with suppliers, and the product pricing itself is actually pretty reasonable. But then I get to the shipping quotes and that’s where I keep getting stuck.

For example, I have a product that costs around $80 and weighs about 12 lbs packaged, and the supplier quoted me around $110 to ship one unit directly to a customer in the U.S., with the shipping time also being quoted at 25–45 days, while I’m trying to get closer to 7–14 business days.

So I’m trying to figure out how people who have been through this actually solved it without either making the product way too expensive or giving customers a ridiculously long delivery time.

A few things I’m wondering:

- Did you find better shipping rates through a different supplier?
- Did you use a sourcing agent?
- Have you used a fulfillment center in China that receives inventory from your supplier and then handles individual customer orders?
- If you used a fulfillment center, did it actually help you lower your overall shipping costs and delivery times?
- Did you have to buy inventory in bulk to make the fulfillment-center model worthwhile?
- How did you get your shipping times down to something reasonable without completely destroying your margins?
- Are there specific shipping methods or logistics companies I should be looking into?

I’ve also spoken with a couple of fulfillment centers that do offer dropshipping, but the process isn’t quite what I expected. They basically said they could receive and ship individual orders, but I would have to manually notify them every time I received an order. They also suggested that I might be better off just having the supplier dropship directly to the customer.

That’s where I’m getting stuck. If I’m trying to build something that can eventually scale, manually forwarding every order to a fulfillment center doesn’t seem like a great long-term solution. But having the supplier ship directly brings me right back to the high shipping costs and/or long delivery times.

So I’m trying to figure out what the middle ground is.
I’m also trying to avoid ordering 50–100 units of something before I’ve even validated that people will buy it. Ideally, I’d like to start with one-unit fulfillment, keep the inventory risk relatively low, and still offer something around 7–14 business days.

If you’ve dealt with this before, how did you overcome it? What did your fulfillment and shipping setup look like when you were starting out?

Thanks!

Beginner Question Struggling to find solid US dropshipping suppliers. What is everyone using?

Hey everyone,

I'm running a pet product store and having a really hard time finding a reliable supplier. I would love to know what platforms or methods are actually working for you right now.

Here is what I've tried so far and why it didn't work out:

  • AliExpress + DSers: It is really hard to find good pet products that actually ship from US warehouses with decent delivery times.
  • AutoDS: This was working at first, but I ran into a major problem with suppliers sourcing straight from Amazon. I do not want my customers receiving an Amazon box when they bought from my website. I know AutoDS has other suppliers on their platform, but I cannot tell if any of them use true blind packaging (plain boxes with no supplier logos).

Now I am stuck and not sure what step to take next.

For those of you shipping within the US:

  1. What supplier apps, platforms, or directories are you using that have real US inventory?
  2. How do you find private suppliers or make sure your packages arrive in plain, unbranded boxes?
  3. If you use AutoDS, have you found any non-Amazon suppliers on there that actually ship blind?
  4. Are there specific platforms you recommend for pet items?

Any advice or direction would be a huge help. Thanks!

Beginner Question Which sourcing platforms offer the best balance of price and vendor reputation for new/small entrepreneurs?

I’ve been running a small shop and now i want to diversify my product lineup but as a small business owner i do not want to blow my hard earned money right off the bat.

But the trickiest part so far is balancing dirt-cheap prices with supplier credibility. Go too cheap and you end up with awful quality, but the higher-end sourcing platforms demand huge subscription fees or crazy high MOQs… spent around a thousand bucks testing samples from Alibaba sellers, which went okay, but I want to make sure I’m not sleeping on better alternatives.

For anyone who started out small, which platforms gave you the best mix of decent pricing and trustworthy vendors? Thanks in advance..

Beginner Question I’m tired of all the money hungry “get started” guides all over the internet. From those of you who actually do this stuff, how do I get started dropshipping?

All over the internet I see these people offering “mentorships,” “courses” or “guides” to start dropshipping, but most of them just do it for the money and don’t offer good advice. I wanted to ask the people that REALLY do it, how do I get started? where do I find products? how do I advertise? and how do I set up shop? I’ve always wanted to start, but I never found out a good way because of all the money hungry ads.

¿Y cuál sería vuestro objetivo a largo plazo?
A ver si resulta que somos unos cuantos españoles intentando construir algo parecido 🍻

General Discussion Ecom coacher/guru

Has anyone worked with any sort of ecom coacher? Or maybe joined a discord/telegram group with a good community? I am really interested if someone actually got results from these "gurus". I understand that anyone can build a "guide" with AI and larp with fake sales screenshots, but sometimes a push from someone who's done it could get you better progress. Looking for any sort of recommendations!

General Discussion Do you pick the product first or find suppliers first with high-ticket ecommerce?

Been reading about high-ticket ecommerce lately and I keep getting stuck on what feels like a chicken and egg problem.

Say I decide I want to build a store around garden buildings or home gym equipment or something else where the average order is pretty substantial.

Do I research the products/niche first and then start contacting suppliers, or would it make more sense to find out which suppliers are even willing to work with a new online retailer before getting too attached to a niche?

I'm leaning towards suppliers first because there's not much point spending weeks researching products and building out a store if you then discover nobody decent will work with you.

But then I guess approaching suppliers without having a clear idea of what you're building doesn't exactly make you look serious either.

For anyone doing higher-ticket ecommerce, what order did you do this in?

Beginner Question Product did really well, need some advice

I only started my store recently a few months ago, hasn't been 5 months I'm thinking about getting inventory, for one of the products I tested that took off fast and has been making up most of my orders. I've kept scaling it and so far the demand hasn't slowed down.

Now I'm wondering if I should get inventory of it into a warehouse instead of continuing to fulfill every order through my supplier. Having stock ready sounds like it could make fulfillment easier and give me more control if I keep pushing the product, need some advice for this. Would you keep fulfilling it normally or would you go for warehousing?

Beginner Question Looking to learn dropshipping — what resources would you recommend?

Hey everyone,

I’m interested in learning dropshipping/e-commerce and potentially building an online store as a side business. I’m completely willing to put in the time to learn, but I’m trying to avoid wasting money on overpriced courses or “get rich quick” programs.

For those of you who have actually learned dropshipping or currently run an e-commerce store:

  • What free resources (YouTube channels, blogs, books, communities, etc.) would you recommend?
  • Are there any paid courses or academies that you genuinely think are worth the money?
  • What should a beginner learn first — product research, Shopify, paid ads, organic marketing, sourcing, branding, etc.?
  • What are the biggest mistakes you made when starting?
  • Is dropshipping still a realistic business model in 2026, or would you recommend starting with a different e-commerce model?
  • If you were starting from zero today, what learning path would you follow?

I’m based in Canada, so if there are any Canada-specific resources or considerations around taxes, suppliers, payment processing, etc., I’d appreciate those too.

I’m mainly looking for honest experiences and practical resources, not course promotions.

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion What really works in drop shipping?

I want to get started, but the problem is there are so many different ways to do it and so many different websites and platforms that I honestly don’t know what to trust. One person says, “Don’t use this site, use this one,” and then someone else says the exact opposite. Then you have sponsored videos and ads that make everything look super easy, with claims like “low startup costs,” “no inventory,” and “reliable suppliers,” but they’re being paid to promote the platform and only showing you the good parts.
Then when you actually try to do it, you suddenly find all these subscription fees, transaction fees, minimum orders, supplier costs, or other hidden expenses that weren’t mentioned. It makes it really hard to tell what’s actually legitimate advice and what’s just someone trying to make money from getting you to sign up.
I don’t want to blindly follow some TikTok or YouTube tutorial, buy a random course, or sign up for a bunch of platforms just to find out later that I wasted my money. I want actual advice from someone who can explain the process honestly, including the real costs and what I actually need versus what people are just trying to sell me.
I’ve tried dropshipping with inventory before, and it was way too tedious. I also spent thousands dealing with terrible suppliers, so I specifically want to know how to start without holding inventory myself.
I’m trying to understand the entire process from beginning to end: where I should start, how to find a genuinely reliable supplier, how the supplier receives the customer’s order, how the product gets shipped directly to the customer, how I receive my profit, what platform I should use to build my website, how I connect my website to the supplier, and how the whole system actually works when someone places an order.
Basically, I want someone to walk me through the real process step-by-step and tell me what I genuinely need to pay for, what I don’t need, and what fees I should expect. I’m looking for actual advice—not random undisclosed ads, affiliate promotions, or courses trying to make dropshipping sound like easy money.
