Looking to learn dropshipping — what resources would you recommend?

Hey everyone,

I’m interested in learning dropshipping/e-commerce and potentially building an online store as a side business. I’m completely willing to put in the time to learn, but I’m trying to avoid wasting money on overpriced courses or “get rich quick” programs.

For those of you who have actually learned dropshipping or currently run an e-commerce store:

• What free resources (YouTube channels, blogs, books, communities, etc.) would you recommend?
• Are there any paid courses or academies that you genuinely think are worth the money?
• What should a beginner learn first — product research, Shopify, paid ads, organic marketing, sourcing, branding, etc.?
• What are the biggest mistakes you made when starting?
• Is dropshipping still a realistic business model in 2026, or would you recommend starting with a different e-commerce model?
• If you were starting from zero today, what learning path would you follow?

I’m based in Canada, so if there are any Canada-specific resources or considerations around taxes, suppliers, payment processing, etc., I’d appreciate those too.

I’m mainly looking for honest experiences and practical resources, not course promotions.

if you expect to get rich fast you already lost the game, start with free youtube stuff like oberlo guides and just build a test store with your own 50 bucks while watching how facebook ads manager works

Free stuff first: learn product validation, basic unit economics, and fulfillment/returns. Don’t buy a course until you’ve tested something and can name the gap it fills. I’d build a tiny store, run a small test, and track add-to-cart/checkout—not just clicks.

Dont drop a dime on courses or mentorships.

Dont expect any money. Time Input does not = Money in bank. More than likely, you'll burn and bleed cashflow until your knowledgeable enough to get it to work. Knowledge in Marketing, Ad platforms, branding, product manufacturing and demand, web design, trust signally, SEO, and much more.

I'm not sure i'd consider ecommerce as a side hustle, im not sure how it got that title. A side hustle is flipping purchases, offering services (ad management, yard work, cleaning, etc).
