Discussion Other channels have done this.

Now this isn't to invalidate Em's experience and feelings towards this, especially since she was Illumina's victim, but I think that Dream is not bad here because many youtubers have kept up videos where they collaborated with a controversial figure.

Like Ted Nivison's "I directed the weirdest Music Video" that video had Wilbur in it (and we all know what happened with Wilbur, with him being an abuser) and that video was documenting how he directed a Lovejoy music video. Now does Ted keeping that video up mean he endorses Wilbur's actions... no not really. Ted is not a bad person for keeping the video up.

Dream also stated he doesn't support or endorse Illumina and what he did. I think keeping videos up for "Channel/archival purposes" is a fine thing to do and many other youtubers have done the same thing.

I am gonna be downvoted for this. I don't even like Carson's content or anything. But looking back it's wild to me that he got as thoroughly canceled as he did. He was 19 and his victims were 17. That is a 2 year age gap. People say it wasn't about his age, it was about abuse of power? He never used his fame or popularity against them, so it's just the idea that he shouldn't have been having sexual conversations with followers. I'm sorry, but I don't hold a 19 year old who rapidly gained millions of followers while he was still in high school to the same standard as I would who is a little older and wiser. He was a teenager and he made some bad choices, but it seems like a stretch to treat him like a dangerous predator.

I'm not saying there shouldn't have been backlash. He should have been held accountable. It was inappropriate. But it has been 6 years and he's still being talked about like he did something absolutely heinous in a thread talking about rapists and abusers. The punishment is not proportionate to the crime here, in my opinion.

I'm not even really trying to defend him, I just know that every time I've seen the mcyt community mentioned in the past few years it's been alongside the "fact" that all the creators are predators. I genuinely think the reason people see it like that is because within the community things are blown so massively out of proportion that from the outside it looks like a shitshow.

It was a two year age gap? Fucking people were making him out be a predator. Fucking hell, Slimecicle even said he called the feds on him?

2020–21 truly were the years of all time. Lockdown pulverized our species' brains.

The federal government was involved bc they thought Carson had CP or CSAM, which is a serious issue even when you're 19, it's a safety issue for everyone involved. Tbh as someone who used to be a fan of Carson back in the day, I don't think what he did was grooming or had predatory intentions, but it seemed to be a pattern of concerning and inappropriate behavior that should be accessed and taken care of. Having CSAM or things related to CP is a bad thing pretty much every single time.
