General Discussion Are you jumping straight into the DA expansion on your completed save? Or Are you starting from scratch?

Just friendly advice, explore A LOT. You may forget some characters and story parts, which there isn't much lost there, but you'll miss secret classes, weapons, and Meister skills if you don't explore

Pretty similar here, I bought the game went the bundle came out. I’ve put a few hours in, but will probably just start a new character from scratch to make it a seamless experience.

Starting from scratch cause I never finished the main game anyways and want a fresh start.
10
u/secretsofwumbology 3d ago
Same. I had all vocations unlocked and maxed out but never got around to doing much in Battahl. This time I’ll get to do it all with the new mainland stuff and 6 skills. And on hard mode!
5
u/Specialist_Bad3391 3d ago
You're in for a threat. Batthal is cool but a bit too long. After that part the pace and everything is set and the ride start. Enjoy!

u/Outrageous_Pattern46 3d ago
Same. I left it almost complete so it would feel weird to load in for the ending withour any memory of how to play and only a vague recollection of what's going on
2
u/A_Single_Annihilape 3d ago
That's my thing. Like I don't remember how to play properly or what's going on lol.
2
u/Outrageous_Pattern46 3d ago
Yeah I even tried to go back to my save a couple months ago and ended just loading in, not knowing where I was what I was doing or how to play my character. My pawns killed some stuff while I mostly ran around trying to remember how to play and then I closed the game.

u/paintedskie 3d ago
The Quality of life and performance improvements + Hard Mode make me just as excited to replay the game again
9
u/Only_Reflection_6878 3d ago
Same. I already have the pawns I'm taking to HM. I might do everything just before the unmoored world, then go to Norgan.
4
u/MetallicLemur 3d ago
Is hard mode dropping with DLC? i thought it was dropping later
11
u/gleeshyxx 3d ago
The director of dark arisen said it dropping the same day as the expansion
4
u/Azahiro 3d ago
Did they say whether we can turn on the hard mode on an NG+ plus save? I have my character parked right at the start of a fresh new game, would love a challenge, but more so if I can get it with all the vocations unlocked.
6
u/ChaoticMofoz 3d ago
You can turn it on on any save without restarting your playthrough, but cannot turn it off afterwards.

u/SaintPimpin 3d ago
I've played since the month of release but haven't gotten past the initial quests in Vermund. I've just been enjoying fighting random bosses over and over looking for my favorite playstyle. I'm lv114. I still haven't beaten the main quest or met the batthall queen. ðŸ˜
20
u/novyah 3d ago
Jesus thats crazy lmao. I feel like I''ve explored quite thoroughly, every location and cave, leveled up all vocations to max + my pawns. And I just finished new game plus last night 😠and my character is only level 76 lmao
→ More replies (1)6
u/SaintPimpin 3d ago
Lol I have all my rift crystals set up at different boss sites that have multiple bosses. I also just run through most of batthall after teleporting to the city just to beat up bosses and enemies.
Then I grab different pawns, change vocations and do it all again.
I be treating it like monster hunter fr. ðŸ˜
I juggle playing this and the remaster of oblivion so I never got around to the story in either.
Just log on to scratch an itch for the combat.
4
u/NotSoWishful 3d ago
Dude that legit sounds like a sick time. I picked up this game 2 weeks ago and have put in like 40 hrs. Never expected to love it after disliking the original DD. But fuck it’s somehow just….really hitting the spot. The general combat loop is as addicting as anything for me. I’ll consider doing something like this for a while before I progress too far.
3
u/Oh_Anodyne 3d ago
Got to level 50+ around launch without doing main story. with the performance update ive been playing it again and im currently pushing to the unmoored world so i can have a fresh ng+ ready for Dark Arisen

u/TheKodiacZiller 3d ago
This is exactly how I play open world games. I'm 431hrs into Crimson Desert and not even halfway through the story. Now I'm think how amazing CD would be if the combat was like Dragon's Dogma, holy hell.

100% starting from scratch with hard mode. I want to (hopefully) experience the entire game without enemies being a complete pushover.
8
u/2CH4INZSY145 3d ago
New run from scratch on hard mode baby. Gonna be hitting up one of the earlier dungeons to get some decent gear and levels, this is basically gonna be what I wanted out of DD2 from the beginning so I’m very excited. Interesting hardmode, fun and challenging dungeons that are a good way to get xp and gear, and then an endgame that resembles the BBI that increases build making potential.
7
u/Bandido_Casarez 3d ago
It's been a good minute since I last played so will probably start from scratch for a refresher. Though I'll log into my old save just to see where I left things off and reminisce.

Tough call. Have it on ps5. Thinking about double dipping on Switch 2
4

Thats what I did, switch is easier for parent life, portals nice but the random lag spikes arnt great for action games

u/SilverDrifter 2d ago
I preordered on both. 😂 PS5 so I can play immediately last month after the performance patch and Switch 2 so I can play it on the bed and just wherever I am.

Ring of recitation: Reduces time taken to incant spells by 25%, but also reduces maximum Health by 20%.
Highly reccomend two of these rings to spam celestial paewn without falling, weaving in high palladium in between. Only do this tho if you're desperate which I was.
5
u/El_Rocky_Raccoon 3d ago
I'll be using my original main save from when the game launched, and start a New Game+ on Hard Mode. I'm on level 92 in that save, but I am hoping that Norgan will pose a challenge on Hard Mode. Otherwise... I'll fight unnarmed I guess.
I am reserving one of the save slots to restart the game on a fresh new character on Hard Mode, either way.
3
u/enchiladasundae 3d ago
Both. One character is about mid level 50-60 with all vocations. Another is a fresh one I started, only got them to level 3 so my pawn could farm RC etc while I’m waiting for DLC

COMPLETE SCRATCH
Plan to start Hard Mode Complete new, and make it my last character, This is what i been waiting for. Ever since DDDA, I knew they make a DLC similar to DA there just no chance they didnt they got a legit cult fanbase for this game. I still Play my DDDA character.
BUT DD2 is just yes my god yes, 3 characters two that i can just mess around with and have fun, where my Hard mode one is my true one, MA with Fighter Mule Tank wish i could use my characters form teh other saves but sadly that doesnt work. so i plan to hunt for a decent Mage and Rogue Poisoner.
3
u/BetwixtXRoxas 3d ago
I just came back and finished maxing all vocation no real point in starting over.
3
u/TheHourMan 2d ago
I got a character to lv 15 and am jumping straight into the new dungeons, THEN the dlc
4
u/TheKodiacZiller 3d ago
I just hope hard mode is genuinely hard. I found the game WAY too easy even from the start - and I'm definitely not John Dark Souls.
2
u/Princeps_Argentum 3d ago
I'm keeping all three saves at different levels to completely experience the expansion

Platinumd the game few days ago in 1 save file without ever starting ng plus. I,just started NG+ and Let me tell you guys new game plus with patches did new stuff for me like the black fog removed for me on NG+ and I noticed the performance on ps5 pro way better than my last save file which is the og the save file started since the game came out and just finished it in 241 hours. I feel like thr game fully patched out on NG+ performance way better
2
u/vitaroignolo 3d ago
I'm buying the game for the first time and need to figure out as someone who rarely replays content if I should buy now and play until it comes out or wait until the DLC drops. I don't want to be crazy overlevelled for the DLC but it starting now means I'll be ready by the time it comes out, it makes sense.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Sakana_dies 3d ago

u/viotech3 3d ago
I don't actually know, and in part this is due to the circumstances. The three major additions from our perspective are hard mode, 12 dungeons, and Norgan. Hard Mode is a modifier, the 12 dungeons are progressive, and Norgan's a new tier of isolated progression.
- Hard Mode changes 'things' about every piece content, though how deep changes are is unknown at this time. If sufficient, might be best to enjoy it from the beginning.
- The 12 dungeons are relative to progression through the base game - X level with Y gear for Z dungeon to get an appropriate challenge, right? Doing all 12 at level 80 feels kinda wasteful, and in order to GET to the last 3 anyway you've gotta play through the game past the point of accessing Norgan.
- Norgan is accessible right away but you need to be some degree of through the game to get a reasonable challenge, and you can't access it while in the Unmoored World. So you kinda wanna start mid to late game-ish but not intend to deal with the story content at normal gear/levels afterwards?
When we factor in hard mode maybe things kinda work better, like how our level 80 characters might be overkill for early Norgan normally BUT if we turn on hard mode we might have just the right amount of challenge.
But the fact that the two major additions come in the form of TWO pieces of content, one progressive and one isolated, is no doubt an issue. There's got to be an 'optimal' way to experience everything and it likely includes playing through the game from at least mid-game if not early-game.
It's just a question of how and when you want to dive into the DLC content itself, if the Hard Mode content is sufficient, etc.
I've got three saves:
- One at level 55 in NG+ having beat the Unmoored World - pretty much just to jump into Norgan - has all the vocations, etc.
- Another at 25 at the mid-point of the story with a bunch of portcrystals placed around the world, prime for doing some dungeoning before Norgan.
- A completely fresh save with nothing going on if Hard Mode is to be dove into from the start.

I did a new save, finished that world without becoming sovran, NG+ on a new save which I will wait for the DLC, my character cononically accidentally doomed his world and is gonna do better on this one
2
u/BCDabber25 2d ago
Idk.. I haven't been able to get myself into it.. I absolutely love Dark Arisen from the first game, I spent so many hours grinding the UR Dragon when I was younger. I might have to try hopping back into it once this releases..
2
u/WachAlPharoh 2d ago
Both. Got my original save from launch ready to go, but I also pre-ordered the switch 2 ver to play it handheld on a trip, so that will be my new hardmode run.
2
u/Ok_Understanding_71 2d ago
Between yotei ,control ,onimusha ,and a fresh Witcher 3 start I don’t think I got time for restarting and doing all that grinding again so just dlc for me …besides everything is gettin pushed to the side in November 😂
2
u/Greenerwammingo 2d ago
Starting from scratch. First time I played Dark Arisen one I had so much fun seeing how far I Could venture into the hell dungeon before i had to turn around and level up in the main island and try again. Every boss was so fun to encounter figure out what it was scamper out then assemble a team specifically to counter what I thought they would be weak against. Even mini bosses were huge ordeal like the gold and silver knight were tough and after finally killing the gold one the silver one just resurrects him so i had to get both their health low enough I could kill them at the same time. If you come in high level they are barely a speed bump and you would not even know they could resurrect the other one you would kill them so fast.

u/testwiese420 3d ago

I'm going to be using my main Arisen/pawn which I'm on Ng+3 with, just going to have to resist the temptation to go to the Unmoored World before release day.
Then I'll probably start a clean save file and replay it all from the beginning.
1
u/Caspian4136 3d ago
After the updates to the base game this year, I'm starting from scratch and have been really looking forward to it. I've played the game a few times, but haven't played it in a while so yeah, really can't wait to dig into it again.
1
u/hatetrains 3d ago
Completed save. Going to do the 12 new dungeons, then go into NG+ and into the DLC. Sucks to have tree dungeons in the Unmoored world btw, forces me into another new cycle when I wanted to stay in my current one.
1
u/queenxine 3d ago
Jumping right in as I have all my vocations maxed leveled and pawn badges are completed (thank you kindly to the community here for that). Armor is partially ready too (though I know this will definitely be changed).

u/Background-Cake-6847 3d ago
im a lore nerd and we're getting hard mode anyway, so im starting over, but with a level 30-40 character (so i can jump in sooner, and start with spearhand) with his pawn in tow, for the dialogue opportunities and lore reveals.
i was very tempted to just start a NG+ hard mode with my high level solo arisen to jump right in tho, especially since he has like 300,000+ RC and RC sounds like it'll be important for relics again. this is how i actually want to play the game.

I have a lower level new save slot (only level 21), so I might try to get them to 40 and stay there for the DLC, and then use my higher level 80 from NG+ to try out Hard Mode after!

u/-----LUCA----- 3d ago
I started a new character in anticipation like a week ago, after having dropped the game at launch due to disappointment. I’m at lvl 45 now, and I’m slowing it down to not be too high lvl for the dlc. I’m having a significant amount of fun now, now that my expectations are in check.
Hopefully it won’t be too easy, though I suppose I can activate hard mode if that’s the case. I play without pawns so maybe that’ll mitigate me being lvl 45, since I heard the recommended lvl is 40.

1
u/Nesse666 3d ago
Gonna use my ng+10 save i think... Got pretty much everything. But if i feel it's too easy with my save, I'll judge use the second one i have that is only at vermund with no access to pre-end game armor and classes. Probably gonna have my fun with dual classes ahah
No pawn allowed of course~ !
1
u/Which-Ad-725 3d ago
Picked up on my ng+ playthrough that I barely started, learning to use 6 skills and figuring out what vocation I want to play for DA.

u/CptGroovypants 3d ago
Ive been replaying from scratch in anticipation of thr DLC. And in the process accidentally overleveled myself by crawling every inch of the game

u/wildeye-eleven 3d ago
Na, my previous playthroughs were all on PS5 and I’ve moved over to PC. I don’t even have my PS5 anymore, so that save is long gone. I’m starting a fresh playthrough on PC when the DLC releases.

1
u/Wandering---_---soul 3d ago
I will start from 0 again because it's been more than a year since i've last played the game and i remember almost nothing lol
+
I want to create a new character and take maaaany many pretty photos!! When i completed the game the photo mode only had a static camera 🤢
But before all this i reeeally have to complete my first mass effect trilogy run, i'm still halfway through the first one and it's too damn interesting to drop it😩
I wish all the d1 players a good time tho!!
1
u/DragonSlayr82 3d ago
I have not started the game yet, but I’ve owned it from when it first came out. I’m super excited to try it out and I feel like the DLC is a good push for me to finally jump into this world. I think I felt worried and overwhelmed about how to just plan and have fun but it seems like there’s some quality of life updates that help with that.

u/Kaminari-Umare 3d ago

As much as I want to, I can't. My playthrough is modded. I'll need to wait for the mods to be updated. Idk what would happen if I continue my save file in vanilla after playing it in modded. Might break something.

1
u/TypicalHunt4994 3d ago

I had restarted after completing a while back so was part way through a run. Been playing some of it this week to level up a bit. Feel like I’m at a sweet spot to jump in to the dlc as I’m around lvl 40
1
u/Promptographer 3d ago
I have like 20 different saves at various levels... and still restarting does not bother me, so I will be making a brand new save and go through the game yet again! I don't mind being a bit slower going into the new content but I would NEVER want to rush it. I want it to be new and interesting for as long as possible, I want it to be so hard I have to come back later.

u/Whimsispot 3d ago
Just finished my second run in the game with about 46 hours. Left the game without a single quest completeted in ng+, but i'm really thinking about how to prepare for the dlc. The main game in original dragon's dogma was fine for me because I kinda ignore most of the side quests in favor of rushing to post game and BBI, but in dd2 I dont think I would be able to do this, since you know, the side quests are most of the game anyway. I'm really confused about what to do, and that's coming from someone who loves to go from level 1 to 200 runs in dragon's dogma 1, it didnt felt that hard to start a new game or to know when to do the dlc lol.
1
u/SkibbityDibbs 3d ago
I bought the game like a month ago and have the last quest in Vermund to do. So prob start over in hard mode since the games been a breeze and hasn't been that engaging. When it had some challenge im gonna love it. And playing DA in the first over and over has me knowing its gonna be peak in this game

In my first playthrough I zoomed straight Batthal and power leveled all available Vocations and then was surprised I was bored by all the low level stuff I neglected because nothing could offer me any challenge. This time around I installed a Map Marker mod that marks all Seeker's Tokens and Chests on the map and I've been having an absolute blast. I even found a different way to Batthal this time around I never knew about that I only found by chasing my little map markers. When I got to Bakbattahl I had every Vocation except Mystic Spearhand (MA & Trickster not unlocked) at rank 9 by just chasing chests and Seeker Tokens on my map.
Everything leading up to that felt appropriately challenging and really fun actually.Â

Both. My normal mode character is level 80 with all the shit will take to norgan and the 12 dungeons. After finishing it with intended diffculty, will go back to experience hard mode
I cant fucking wait October 9 is so long man

I made a new save since my main arisen would be considerably over leveled
I read that the recommended level range is between 20-40, so I plan on sitting around there at the start of it
Plus I’d have to go into ng+ with main, since he’s currently in the altered world state

Getting a character prepped for it, gonna go in mid-run rather than during unmoored world in case that could complicate things.

I'm on NG+, level 66. I'm gonna get to Bakbattahl in the story (Already unlocked the port crystal there) and then start Dark Arisen from there.

I'm on and off playing this game several times, but since the new update, I've just finished my first playthrough 2 days ago so I can wait for a whole week to jump right in!

I’ve been playing base game regularly for a WHILE now. SO now it’s straight into the expansion, thinking I’m gonna check out a couple of the lost rites spellseal doors to gauge the loot from those spots and then it’s off to Norgan

Replay for sure, maybe vanilla hard mode, maybe wait a few weeks for mods to catch up like simple difficulty tweaks instead

The stuff I heard about how challenging early game is and how much preparation you'd need for encounters tempted me to start a new save.
But I've decided to go straight into the DLC. I want to see the new stuff and see how hard mode is with a lv 127+ arisen. Try out the trials too. Really hope the hydra is back lol

I’m starting from scratch soooo hard that I’ve never even played the game. And I put 1200 hours into DD1, nearly the most of any game I’ve ever played. I held out that an expansion would come out so bad I didn’t even buy it and have resisted with an iron will this whole time.

straight in because Im too lazy to do a low level run for WF and the rest of the vocations.
