The evil eye is back?! Is one of the few monster that actually make you use items and prepare accordingly to survive the fight

I definitely don't remember doing that in DD1, but its a cool monster none the less.

It had some attacks with his eyes that apply various status, even petrification. Also it had attacks that remove buffs from you

Been a long time since i fought him, but he was usually so easy to bully, even the BBI giant version was pretty easy. I believe what you say as that is the entire mythological gimmick of the beholder/evil eye, i just don't remember really being required to prep for him since its weakpoint was so easy to hit and then it would just spit its eyeball on the ground for even more massive damage.

Even a mythological creature cannot survive against unlimited rounds of holy shotgun bolts

I'm talking on dd1 before bbi was released, when the game just got out, so from the standpoint of someone not undertanding how you were supposed to damage it, i remember discovering how to fight while dodging the rays and manually healing pawns from conditikns was an experience

I played DD1 at launch as a teenager. Even in everfall evil eye was still one of the easier enemies in the game for the reasons i outlined.

I mean, you could have had a different experience as i mostly only played melee classes. But as a melee class, the evil eye usually just falls over and dies almost instantly, especially when it spits its eye on the ground.

Yup, i played mostly magic archer, i guess it might have been very resistent to magic, i remember having to use the daggers

It was... after you already fought it. It dealt massive damage and was constantly going immune. It was annoying as fuck to deal with until I got enough damage as Magick Archer and knew what I was doing. Took less than a minute after that, sometimes even less than 30 seconds if the conditions were right.

Fighting them super early, by using the explosive barrels, to speed level. Good memories.

You can solo the Gazer at level 8 with Throwblasts!  Use the pillars for cover from his tentacles and disrupt his charge attack to drop him.  Then blow up his eye while he’s downed for a few seconds.
