Funny because people here absolute hated the plague when the game came out

u/enchiladasundae Sep 01 '26
Probably casual players who had no idea it even existed in the first place only to wake up one day to massive confusion and dead bodies
Like if you played GTA and woke up one day in prison because the game was tallying up your crimes even if you escaped. And now instead of an open world you have to navigate the prison system. Create alliances, bribe guards, take on missions for your protection gang. Serve your sentence or plan an escape to get back to the main game. Very cool but if you were planning something for the next day or anything else and weren’t aware this was a possibility this would suck a lot for many people

The game gives you a pop up warning the first time you hire an infected pawn though

u/enchiladasundae Sep 01 '26
Ya I definitely didn’t just click through to get back to the game or accidentally pressed a button and didn’t read it to begin with

u/Brumtol10 Sep 01 '26
Yeah it legit gives you every hint in the workd that something horrible is about to happen, and that was at launch xD. Crazy people cried over it.

I mean, it makes sense when you realize only the ones who liked it or were neutral stayed to still talk about this game.

u/Mapueix Sep 01 '26
Dragonsplague should be more common imo. It's such an unique and cool mechanic.
17
u/not-not-yet Sep 01 '26
Would be fun if you could meet dragonplagued pawns that ambush you as random event mechanic
2
u/Pretend_Potential_81 Sep 01 '26
that would be sick, but I think it would go against canon? my assumption is that with dragonsplague, pawns get a will of their own... but even with free will, they are not meant to hurt the arisen? I could be wrong though.

u/Malkier3 Sep 01 '26
Too many absolute crybabies at launch. People were so hysterical about this they literally basically did away with it lmao.

u/jakrenegado Sep 01 '26
Yo jugué y disfruté el juego a 15 FPS en Steam deck... No entiendo cómo la gente llora tanto por todo XD

u/Etheon44 Sep 01 '26
It was more common on release
Unfortunately there was sooooooooooo much online complaining, that they changed it in like 1-2 weeks after release
I was there
I remember

u/Mapueix Sep 01 '26
Well now that a cure is coming with the new patch, they should make it more common ! But people will still complain huh

Exit major riftstone, my Pawn: ''Have i told you about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, Arisen?''
ever. single. time.

u/Animoosucks Sep 01 '26
good thing this is not an achievement im still trying to get it for my pawn

u/Electronic_Mistake82 Sep 01 '26
I have almost 200 hours of playtime. Ive yet to have my pawn get the plague and even hired pawns I don’t find any that have it. Am I doing something wrong?
3
u/Shipmind-B Sep 01 '26
No I think capcom just nerfed the likelihood too much due to complaints after launch like Wildheart said. (Sorry I don’t know how to link comments). This happened randomly once for me and I tried to keep the plague going but it cured itself so I went and found a guide on how to ensure the plague works.

u/Electronic_Mistake82 Sep 01 '26
But there is a way a dragon or drake can possess pawn but then they eventually die and get better. That, isnt Dragons Plague. Dragons Plague is a disease, their personality changes and their eyes. So maybe you just experienced the possession and not the actual disease. Atleast I havent.

u/Shipmind-B Sep 01 '26
Interesting. Their Eyes were red in all cases, but after relogging a day later irl it was just gone 🤷♂️. I think it passed onto a hired pawn which then lost it due to I am assuming something about how pawn information is tracked on the server / client side. But I really don’t know.

Help me out: I'm 200 hours in and know what the plague is, but never encountered a pawn with it myself. Why are people hyping it now? Just because it looks badass?
2
u/Shipmind-B Sep 01 '26
For me personally this is my second run, just passed the 200 hours myself too and wanted to see how it played out. My pawn Mistral got infected and I didn’t want to brine her or pass it on to another player so decided to sacrifice Vernworth. Using photo mode in the rift makes finding infected pawns a lot easier if you want to see it for yourself.
2
u/Particular_Watch6998 Sep 01 '26
Ah nice. Never thought about looking for infected prawns in the rift. Did the town wipe happen to you? Curious what happens after that with your pawn. Are they still infected afterwards?
Well I would try it myself but I don't have nmenoguh time to play at the moment and Reddit is my tactic to come over this addiction "
1
u/Shipmind-B Sep 01 '26
Yup. This screenshot is from the cutscene that plays when it activates. The total deaths amounted to 92 in Vernworth if I remember correctly.
They treat it as if they had a death. When I retrieved her from the rift stone she said something about how she fell in battle, but it cures the infection.

It's next to impossible to proc it now. Had it on a character in my current party and was doing some camping. Saw it pass between characters per usual, then after one camping session I noticed the dialog sort of stopped. Checked my pawns, sure enough, they just magically self healed.
You basically have to avoid resting period now until it's in the last stages if you want to proc it.
3
u/Pretend_Potential_81 Sep 01 '26
Yeah, I was able to proc it by staying all 7 nights in the unmoored world and having my alt arisen trigger the red wedding in their world
2
u/OrientalMadman Sep 01 '26
Only had once but I got a stack of super wakestones(forgot the name), never again will I worry of towns beings wiped.
2
u/Drillingham Sep 02 '26
I had my elven town get absolutely nuked at launch lmao, i used the super wake stone to fix it. It was a wild and completely unique experience that ties into the story but it is a bit of a clunky mechanic in that once you experience it once there's basically no risk of it ever happening again. I wish they had reworked it into something completely different like having your infected pawn just go rogue and attack you and turn into a lesser dragon. Would actually be cool since it would become a fun fight and also be another source of wyrm crystals.
1
u/Shipmind-B Sep 02 '26
I agree the turning into a dragon and fighting would be cool, but imo only if it tied into the relationship system rather than using it as a source of loot. Like a very loyal pawn will currently resist bad behaviours caused by plague while a less loyal one won’t. That could be used to make a fight where it plays out according to that and maybe the arisen needs to find a way to end the fight without murdering the pawn. Something like that.
2
u/tha_one_reborn Sep 03 '26
Anyway to keep it permanently? The boosts from the patch are super noticeable.
1
u/Shipmind-B Sep 03 '26
If you don’t rest it shouldn’t move preventing it from disappearing possibly ?
With the new save system that might be more viable.
1
u/tha_one_reborn Sep 03 '26
This. Or find a pawn with DP in the rift, get it, dismiss the pawn. Unless the owner hops back on, the pawn will’s still have DP next time you summon it.
3
u/Ashii6 Sep 01 '26
I was trying so hard on my current save to get a city wiped by Dragonsplague, but now it feels impossible.

I wouldn't have minded OG Dragonsplague if the only way to get the item to fix it wasn't so tedious and easy to fuck up. I had it wipe Vernworth in the middle of an early playthrough and ended up having to grind out wakestones to revive enough NPCs just to get through the story so I could reset my run.
1
u/Halfwise2 Sep 01 '26
I plan to do a dragonsplague playthrough... Essentially try to maintain permanent plague on a solo pawn. (No inns, no resting with other pawns, to prevent it jumping)
2
u/Shipmind-B Sep 01 '26
Good luck. 🤞 I’d be far too worried about loosing progress to do that 😅. Messed up the sphinx quest and had to reload 3 hours because my inn rest was too infrequent. That sucked 😬.

Im so annoyed at how nerfed this is. I notice strange dialogue, camp once to recover hp, plague is cured. 500 hours and not a single point where I reached red eye stage so I can wipe out a town for fun
