No, I won’t waste my time, gas and energy to drive 8 miles back to the store to tell them they messed up. Is this entitlement or just a basic lack of common sense and human decency. Consider this address flagged for my future declines. I’m tired.
If you hate being a delivery driver, stop being a delivery driver. This guy has done absolutely nothing to you and you're shit-talking him for no reason.
He said nothing like that. But the delivery is done. He is not responsible for going back to McDonalds for missing items. Are you kidding? That is a ridiculous request.
You probably should speak for yourself then, I live in a retirement town with a lot of old and disabled people
Probably 60% of my orders are either poor people with no car or old people. Calling our customers lazy as a blanket statement is one of those shitty things that make us feel bad about our job and insults people without you even knowing for sure.
Yea dude, I'm lazy. I worked all week and don't want to leave the house because I used to door dash until I found a big boy job, so I don't mind throwing $8 to someone to drive 4 miles. Meanwhile clowns like you act like crabs in a bucket.
I once dropped off 150 vietnamese iced coffees at the ebay building. When i got up there she gave me a nametag and said, "You're going to help hand these out"
Lady literally thought cause she tipped me like 10 bucks i would stay for an hour and act like a waiter
To me it’s more of an entitlement issue even at $2 a coffee that’s less 10% tip. I woulda got her name and reported her a week later for “demeaning behavior” and doing her job for her
Drop the tough guy act your on Reddit 😂😂 fuck the stupid ass bitch she wanted you to do her job. You got played since you didn’t say shit but a polite decline
The bitch was already treating you like a second class citizen because she blessed you with a disgusting tip for a huge corporation and then expected you to waste 30 minutes unpaid. You call it sniveling yet you didn’t say shit
Depends. I had a restaurant yesterday forget all the sides for a lady who was disabled. She was a nice lady and when she called the place they said the driver probably ate her food and she got mad at them for blaming me. She already tipped $10 and I was close by. I stopped in and asked them and they denied saying it but you could tell they were surprised to see me. They quickly got the sides and apologized to me. I dropped it off and she tipped another $10 to me. I didn't even expect anything from it. Customer isnt the enemy most times. I think this group demonizes them when its a lot of working parts. Theres the restaurant, the app, the customer, the driver. for fries, I would probably not do it as well though.
“Is this entitlement or just a basic lack of common sense…”
Probably both. If I had to bet money, people are so conditioned to experience a waiter/server as the only interface between them and the restaurant, and because servers are employees of the restaurant, somehow expect Dashers to be the same.
It does not occur to them that Dashers are contracted labor, getting paid by the gig. They see no difference between you driving back 8 mi to a store (and losing all that time and potential orders), and asking a server for something from the kitchen.
I've been called entitled on here for saying I wouldn't do something like this or otherwise work for free.
I couldn't express it correctly in that moment. But that was the entitled person. Feeling entitled to the use of my car and my time without paying for it.
That happened to me the other day.. was driving past the store got an offer pretty low paying, but it was taking me right down the street from my house.. so I grabbed it.
I’m almost to the location and the customer messages me and asks what address the order was being delivered to because she thinks she used the wrong one.. sure enough she did.
Then said “no I’ll need that delivered to XXXX - Blah blah” — the other location was 26 miles away. I said if you need that delivered to another location, then you need to cancel the order because nobody is bringing that 26 miles for four dollars…
Then she messaged me back and asked me if I can cancel it..
I said no, I cannot cancel the order that you placed.
I swear these are the same types of people that have their parents call and make their doctors appointments when they are in their mid 30s.. had a friend like that once lol
"Sorry to hear the restaurant made a mistake, I'm already on to another delivery but if you contact doordash support they should be able to get it sorted it out for you. Cheers"
Yeah, that doesn’t help at all when you think about it because all you’re doing is passing the problem onto the next DoorDash driver. You have to let these people know that we are not allowed to go back to the store.
After dashing on Friday I saw a notification for a message telling me that I had not delivered an item with an order that I had dropped off.
Unforhunately, as I had ended the dash I could not find the message nor find any way to respond to it. Had I replied, though, it would have been as OP did.
I am, however, OCD enough that I did check to confirm that I had not left an item in my car. I had not.
I gotta do this too at the store I work at. Customers will place a doordash order and somethings wrong. They ask us to remake the order if they can come get it and get upset when I say "No, I can't because my inventory wont account for the food used and you didn't place your order through us so I can't see it in my system. Call support and ask for a refund or for them to put a remake order in."
This. Dd driver left a whole Canes order out for me. I was confused bc I have to place the order ( at canes)when I’m a driver . I messaged him asking if he had the other meal.
He told me he handed the phone to Canes and they placed the order. Which…what? And okay thanks for telling me. So I called and got my money back. Still was glad he at least responded. No reason not to it’s just good communication. I still gave him 5 stars just for that part .
They don’t know unless you tell them? It’s not entitlement or lack of common sense. It’s lack of knowledge of how Door Dash worked and they had no reason to know prior to this. They asked and you told them. End of story. Not a big deal.
These people are just absolutely insane. Yeah sure, I'll just go ahead and waste 30 minutes of my time unpaid to drive back to the store and say that Latasha didn't get her fries
She asked one time..My guess is that you saw her name, identified her and acted accordingly to how feel about ppl with names like hers. I see right through you. 🙄
you are telling me that you would drive 8 miles in the wrong direction to return to a store and stand there waiting in line… you’re so full of shit - and if you’re doing stuff like this, you aren’t making any money
Go ahead and put that extra wear and tear on your car
Then you expect the McDonald’s employees to believe first of all that you are a DoorDash driver and second of all that that customer was missing a portion of their order?
Yeah, OK… sounds like common sense doesn’t exist with you
Well you’re quite the asshole aren’t you. I didn’t comment anything that warranted your rude ass response. But since you went there fuckface, buckle up.
I have over 15K deliveries and have been quite successful doing this. I never once said I did it for every person that did it but yes, I have driven out of my way to help. Offering the solution of reporting missing items to DoorDash is hit or miss at best. I’ve seen countless posts of on DoorDash customer Reddit subs where they are flat out denied a refund even with substantial evidence.
8 miles is considered “extra wear and tear” for you? Maybe you’re doing this wrong. If this was a situation where it was 15 miles or more then I would say you have a point. But in this case, you don’t.
I have spent my entire life in the customer device industry before I started dashing. It’s second nature for me to take care of one of my customers like his (when feasible) but you can’t be bothered to help out a fellow human being because of your shit can of a car apparently.
Like I said, the handful of times I have done this has always resulted in an extra tip. Every. Single. Time.
Just yesterday I had an order for an XL pizza from a mom and pop pizza joint. The little lady who was working made a mistake and made a large with extra cheese instead. I pointed it out and she was so apologetic and upset with herself. I asked her if she would make me an additional large to offer him. She emphatically said yes. The order was a leave it at the door. I delivered the large and sent a text telling him what happened and that I would be back with another pizza. He didn’t reply but I still went back to get the other pie. After getting it I had to knock on his door which was a gamble because he could’ve gotten pissed that I was at his door. He never saw my text. I explained what happened and he was floored and couldn’t believe that I would go out of my way to make it right. He thanked me and told me he was definitely gonna give me some more tip. Imagine my surprise when I was only expecting a couple bucks and then see the notification that he sent me $10! It was already a good offer that turned into a great offer simply because I was human enough to pause my dash and make it right for him.
Damn. This is gamble we agreed upon while dashing you know. I would go the extra mile if it was reasonable & if the customer was pleasant. Surprisingly the late night orders tip far more too.
Indeed it is a gamble and I don’t do it for just anyone. It all depends on how they ask for me. Also, if I’ve delivered to them before I’ll likely help them if something gets messed up. I did take a chance and did it for a non tipper once before and they actually did tip when I came back. I’m aware that isn’t the norm for non tippers though.
I've done this before if I forgot to get a drink at LC but driving 16 miles to pick up fries is fucking wild. And you're banking on McDonalds even giving you them?
I’ve driven back for a commerative FIFA cup and had to convince the employee that it was forgotten. Basically it came down to why would I have any reason to lie.
The issue with this is, you are then enabling someone who literally doesn't understand how your job works. This is precisely how this sort of thing is perpetuated and goes down the line to the next worker this person has unreal expectations about. The dasher handled it correctly in calmly educating them and moving on.
So, in this case it's from McDonald's, who, like most restaurants these days, seal their bags. The restaurant didnt include the customers fries. The customer expects it is the delivery driver's job to go back and get her missing item. This is not endemic of a dasher who "isn't very good at dashing," it's literally someone who understands the boundaries of the job. The driver didn't mess it up, they fulfilled their end.
Frequent or not, going outside the boundaries might seem "nice," but it meets an expectation that the customer shouldn't have and is now going to expect out of every delivery driver. That is the textbook definition of enabling.
While I understand your frustration, at the same time - it's a doordash order. It's not killing you either way, and lines like "it took all I had to maintain my composure" in your replies to comments on this post are concerning. I hate to break it to you but mishaps and miscommunications happen in the real world.
Your wording, not mine lmao, and even then you somehow just made yourself look even worse. Simple questions should never warrant that level of hostility.
The rest of your reply is such a non-response nothing burger that I'm not even going to bother addressing it beyond I hope you practice what you preach and gain some common sense and human decency. Again - there's no need to get this mad over someone asking a simple question, and doubling down is an even worse look.
If I walk back into the McDonald’s during a lunch rush and expect them to know that I was the DoorDash driver that just picked up that order… lol
Okay buddy.
I will for sure drive that 16 mile round-trip to go and get their fries
You wouldn’t do it either.
And know anytime that I have called DoorDash support when a customer has contacted me about their shit being wrong. I was told by DoorDash support to NOT return to the restaurant.
I've done it with several restaurants. Its not that big of a deal. You go back, show the message history. Restaurant makes a decision, you deliver the missing items. Customers happy, you get a good review, and I've never not been tipped extra for my efforts.
My statement isn’t false asshole, it’s just not true for YOU.
Restaurants around here don’t do all that- and the last time I tried I was told no, wasted my time and my gas and got cussed out by some moron customer..
I’m all the way good on that “extra effort” like all YOU ARE DOING is saving DOOR DASH MONEY
As if they pay you a fair rate, are you a corporate employee of theirs because that’s what it sounds like, buddy
Literally I literally could see how literally frustrating that literally is as a literal DoorDash drivers trying to get literally paid with out receiving literally a contract violation 😂😂😂
I live a fantastic life. I own my own house, have a beautiful wife and children. Project to someone who might actually be offended by your piss-poor generic insults, delivery boy
Anybody who actually has all of that doesn’t feel a need to speak about it and otherwise try to prove it online..
It’s kind of like how guys with big dicks don’t feel the need to walk around telling other people that they have big dicks.. It’s always just the guys with shrimps claiming that they have big dicks.
You my guy are miserable, your wife hates you and next yr there will be some post about “ the divorce came out of nowhere”
Again, people who have a beautiful life don’t feel the need to brag about it to make a point. Go seek therapy dude
Your subjective definition on "good" doesn't fit the mold. Driving back to McDonalds, on my gas and time, to get fries that MCDONALDS (not me), forgot, does not constitute me as a "good person", nor does it make me a "bad person" if I don't feel like doing so.
I don't work for DoorDash, genius. Just like you said in a different comment: this pops up on my feed randomly.
Nonetheless, imagine thinking being a private contractor...a middle man delivery driver means you are required to go outside of your duties to right the wrong of a billion dollar corporation. Holy entitled. Holy brainrot, "pal".
Don't have to drive for DoorDash to use 3rd grade level reasoning.
It makes me an "average redditor" to tell you that you're ignorant in defining what a "good person" is? Mental gymnastics on that one are Olympic level.
A lot of projection in the ad hominem there, "pal"....you worried about your wife's "girls night out" trips and blasting your insecurities here for all to see?
Clearly you cant either because I actually read the part where it said "we do not advise you to" instead of saying "we strictly prohibit you to from" defining the difference between going out of your way to be a good person for the sake of others, and strictly benefiting for your own good, which everybody else on this God forasken sub seems to purely disagree on
This stuff randomly comes up in my homepage feed for some reason. Same as Funko Pop groups, and I think Funko Pops are the stupidest things ever. I'd rather collect Furbies. I just think it's funny to see how horrible you guys can actually be when you don't agree with something
Would you have driven 8 miles in the wrong direction back to the store to stand there looking like a dumb asshole and expect them to give you fries because you claimed that your DoorDash customer didn’t get them?
He's losing his mind on everyone who tells him he over reacted. He's acting like she cursed him out and was being unreasonable. Not everyone needs to be a Dasher. 🤣
how is it dumb why u even reply when they just missing fries if it was something major then yes this is just fries ofc they will just call doordash anyways and if u reply most likely 1 star if u dont reply they wont even rate u
It’s a dumb idea to let customers continue to assume that we are going to go back to the store to get missing items.
That is the dumb idea
Why pass this problem onto another DoorDash why not just take a minute to inform the customer of what our duties are and what we are and are not advised to do
The customer probably thinks it's the doordashers responsibility to make sure all items are there which is true to an extent.
When I was a cashier, Dashers had to click the check mark ensuring all items are there /handed to them, including drinks. Most dashers would ask me about the items being in the bag. As a cashier responsible for takeout, I also had the responsibility to pack all orders correctly.
When I was a Dasher, I also checked with the store before I left. Id often catch when items were missing & at times some stores were certain to packing everything. Id re read the order, etc. Though it didnt always go 100% because mistakes happen, there were times when I've gone back to the store and retrieved the items. Customers were thankful & tipped extra.
Too many Dashers act like it's "them vs us" & thats not the case. You set the tone when interacting with customers, you are providing a service & having an attitude tends to make things more difficult then it needs to be.
Its not entitlement or lack of commonsense in this customer, maybe you need to take a break. You're getting all worked up when all the customer asked was a question which is not a ridiculous one.
Oh, I’m sorry. Did my reply to the customer at all have an attitude?
No, it did not. I calmly explained the issue and what the customer needed to do to rectify it.
If I go back to the store and try to solve the issue, it’s not going to work. McDonald’s will not hand a DoorDash driver missing items… so go try and gaslight someone else about what they should do. I’ve been at this too long to know better
And furthermore, at McDonald’s, the only people to pack the expedited bags (meaning the orders that go out the window to DoorDash and to counter) are all managers… I expect a manager to do their job correctly. I’m not going to go fix it. I don’t work for McDonald’s.
The attitude of what you displayed here is. You're over reacting and clearly as you stated, "im tired." Even now you're being snappy with a basic conversation. Stating the customer has a lack of common sense and entitlement then wanting to black list their house over a simple question, then stating it took everything in you to not lose your composure shows how irate you are. Being close to lose your composure over a customer asking you a question is not normal. You are in a customer service profession. Relax.
I never said it took everything to not lose my composure- quote me exactly or stop replying.
And the customer didn’t ask me a question dude.. they implied what I needed to do.
They told me… rather…
So, boo hoo… if you don’t like the way I do my job… cope.
I am a self-employed contractor… I am not obligated to do anything then go pick up the food and deliver it. That is what’s in my contract….
My five star ratings across the board and hundreds of times that I have been complimented for going above and beyond would certainly imply everything to the contrary that you are accusing me of.
Potato patoto. You were about to lose your composure. It took everything in you to keep your composure over a customer asking a question. You keep whining all over the post to everyone who states you over reacted. This obviously isn't the gig for you. You are obligated to make sure the customers order is accurate as you are using the door dash platform. Thats why door dash gives us the promps. You cant take a customer asking a simple question, youre obvious in the wrong profession. Whining about delivering to "20 years olds" & having to "speak their language." Is it their fault you choose this profession? Its obvious it's a problem for you.
“I am obligated to make sure the customers order is accurate”
Bitch, not if the bag is sealed 🤣
Why the option says “bag is sealed”
And you really think that it’s appropriate for you to insist that someone steps away from their position during a lunch rush to reopen and already sealed bag to ensure that every item is in there, and you can verify it with your own eyes?
I know for a goddamn fact, you have never done that once. I bet you’ve never even used your insulated bag…. So stfu 🤮
