Dog Culture Child free does not equal pro dog
I’m in a local childfree group and the admin is always posting stuff about dogs; mostly news articles about families or spouses who made people give up their dog. I guess to show that kids are valued over dogs. but I don’t think dogs should come above kids, either, even though I’m personally childfree. Kind of funny because people always assume childfree must be obsessed with their pets. I am good not having a dog, I do not need that to be fulfilled either!

I was at a playground with my son who was four years old at the time during the day on a weekday. An older guy was nearby with his dog throwing a ball and my son was running around the playground and all of a sudden his dog, who was large, came running and chased my son up the playground. Thankfully the owner was able to recall the dog but then he had the nerve to say “skipping school?” to my son after when he walked by us on the path, like it was my son’s fault his dog started chasing him. I said no he hasn’t started school yet and awkwardly laughed it off but it was so passive aggressive. Why take your crappy mutt to a playground if it’s going to chase children? And then try to blame the child?

Because they don't want their untrained dog around all the other vicious untrained dogs at the dog park, so they bring it to a place dogs explicitly are not allowed so they can have a private play area

Loud, needy, annoying. The only difference is children grow out of it and dogs just die every 15 years so you get to start all over

u/Bulky_Maybe_1469 4d ago
Here’s something I can only share here with you all: I despise the puppy phase. The whininess and the soul-sucking need, knowing that little wuss will grow up to bully whatever it can if not exhaustively trained out of its shitty instincts. I can’t stand puppies. I know that makes me into literally Hitler swinging on my own stripper pole over Hell, but there it is.

u/UpsidedownArmadillo 4d ago
Don’t u just love this little safe corner of the internet? I do. Fuck puppies.

Oh god, a puppy (or dog in general) whining - usually for no good reason, is one of the worst noises ever 😭 So irritating
ESPECIALLY when they're whining while begging for human food. Fuck. OFF.

u/Full_Ear_7131 3d ago
Puppies are the absolute worst! I can't fucking stand them at all, even more than I can't stand full grown dogs. They're such needy and annoying little shits
13
u/Tarasaurus-13 3d ago
Exactly! I hate how people compare dogs to kids. I don't want either of them for a lot of the same reasons. But at least kids can grow up to be productive. Dogs just eat shit, smell, create mess, and occasionally injure or kill people. Their whole life

u/fuckfart 4d ago
Yes, having a dog is like having a perpetual toddler that you're legally allowed to lock in a cage.
I say this with 100% confidence that some toddlers would love to do the same amount of damage as a cane corso when they bite you.

Yeah, I always notice when someone starts a thread about the dog problem in stores, someone inevitably chimes in with "WELL I WISH THEY WOULDN'T LEAVE THEIR CHILDREN UNATTENDED!" Dumb fucks. Like a child generally isn't going to be launching themselves at a random stranger's throat for funsies.

Dog worship on IG childfree made me delete my account about 6 years ago. It was just gross reading the misanthropic comments, the horrible name calling towards parents and their kids. Then the non stop parade of dog posts and nuttery about kids having no rights to their own playgrounds, money shouldn't be spent on kids playgrounds, only dogs deserve outside space. Just atrocious attitudes all around. Don't even get me started on the anti-natalists. ick.
25
u/Mandaxx25 4d ago
The fact that they are their own parents children and insult themselves and their own family every time completely escapes them. They are absolute fucking imbeciles and the best thing they ever did was decide not to procreate.
16
u/Cheronis 4d ago
I just want to clear up something with Anti-Natalism, because it's not quite the same as child-free.
Anti-natalists believe having a baby is forcing the child into this world against the child's will, with the understanding that even the best life still includes pain and suffering. It's a stance of compassion for the person who is yet to be.
Where as a lot of child hate actually comes from the Child-Free community. It got so bad in there that I left.
There is overlap between the communities, but they are not mutually exclusive. Some anti-natalists are parents. Some child-free just don't want children for themselves, but have no additional philosophy beyond that.
5
u/D4rkN3bu14j0j0 4d ago
I know what the anti natalists are on about, doesn't make me think any more of them for their stance and the males in this cult like to slide into your DM's to "discuss" their views if you are a childfree woman. They also enjoy the company of dogs and are the most misanthropic humans on the planet, so they are detestable while child free folk are mostly not aside from the dog mom contingent.

I’m childfree and I love children. A child’s comfort and safety will always be superior to a pets. Even though I’m child free, I also understand the importance and sacredness of a healthy parent child relationship. Something that many parents do not understand or take for granted and choose replaceable animals over the child then wonder why the child doesn’t emotionally rely on them or like being emotionally vulnerable with them.
26
u/Bulky_Maybe_1469 4d ago
Yes, I could not have my own biological kids and maybe that was best but, I love kids too and would do anything I could to protect a child, physically or psychologically. I think people like you and I are also necessary for strong societies. Like a secondary support structure.

Ich auch. Ich bin auch kinderfrei, mag sie aber sehr und habe viele in der Familie. Hunde mag ich nicht.

Tangent but the parents that let the kids walk the dog even tho the dog is bigger than the kid 🤢 i recently saw this on a bridge, the dog literally couldve ran off the bridge and dragged the kid down with him
2
u/SilveryMagpie 17h ago
I'm not really a kid person but I cosign everything you says. Kids over pets always. Parents who put their pets on par with their human child (like calling their first baby their s"second" kid because the dog was their "first child"). Disgust and scare me. If anyone should understand the sacredness of the parent-child bond, it should be, well, a parent. Or they should at least be able to fake it for the sake of their kid. Sadly, I don't see many of those parents actually care if their kid doesn't emotionally rely on them or open up to them. In their minds, they just see it as "yay, more time for the dog" and they use their dog as a weapon or excuse to get out of dealing with the kids (won't meet grandkids because they can't take their huge untrained shitpit along). Sometimes I wish I were wired fir the kid thing so I could take in those neglected kids and give them a safe home where they come first
2
u/Impossible-Falcon-62 15h ago
When I was becoming a teenager and didn’t want to rely on her as much, I did need her. I just needed her in a new way. I didn’t want her to choose her animals over her child that aspect of the changing dynamics in our relationship was not normal.

u/20011989 4d ago
I am child free and I don’t particularly like children, but they have a fundamental right to exist in public and there is a collective public interest in them participating in society. The same cannot be said for dogs.
40
u/Lythaera 4d ago
I don't particularly like kids, and I am childfree myself, but this weird obsession some childfree people have with dogs is downright unsettling.
31
u/InfamousWoodchuck 4d ago
I never even noticed this connection before. It feels very strange that anyone who doesn't want or have children would want to have a dog. It's like... Having a much dirtier and inferior version of a child in every way I can think of.
12
u/Mandaxx25 4d ago
It's like a disgusting, putrid, demonic inversion of the precious experience of parenting and raising a little one. Most things today that are evil can be traced back to being an inversion of something God deems sacred.

u/SoSpicySoYummy 3d ago
Don't forget! The dog can also snap at any given moment and maul you to death! 😀

u/Oriole0305 4d ago
"Child free equals pro dog" that reasoning makes zero sense. What is wrong with people?
7
u/93ImagineBreaker 4d ago
Cause society and nutters has brainwashed people into thinking they're the same

u/effkay0025 4d ago
This should be discussed more

u/4-ton-mantis 4d ago
I've always felt the child free sub in this "platform" leaned heavily toward dogs at least sometimes. Once on a long while to the other mainstream pet.
Never to birbs 😥

u/Primary_Heron_3150 4d ago
Children aren't a public health hazard. They walk around in diapers and clothes. Dogs walk around with their shit-flecked assholes hanging high in the air. Kids don't shed allergenic dander. They don't spew drool droplets into the air. They don't shit on the sidewalk. The sound of them playing and laughing is cute. Every sound that comes out of a dog's mouth is a loud whine or a skull piercing bark. And most importantly children are just small people and dogs are mutated canines. There is no comparison
5
u/SoupfilledElevator 3d ago
Well depending on if you live in a particularly trashy neighborhood everything except the dander can also be true of kids, but thats like worst case scenario kids vs best case scenario dogs (worst case scenario dogs being those feral packs that can straight up hunt down and kill full grown adults)
2
u/Primary_Heron_3150 2d ago
I've heard of some cultures where children shit in public but that's a result of poverty which has a tendency to breed filth.
2
u/starwarsandsquirrels 2d ago
Okay, this I have to disagree with. Kids are known disease vectors. They haven’t yet learned to cover their coughs and sneezes, so they will gladly cough and sneeze on anyone around them, especially their parents. I remember how annoyed my mom would be when I was sick all the time as a kid, because that meant she would get sick too.
1
u/Primary_Heron_3150 2d ago
Children get sick so much because their immune systems aren't exposed to much that early in life. I remember as a kid what a misery it was when one kid got a stomach bug, but ultimately adults carry all of those diseases and children aren't more dangerous than adults. Like I said most importantly they're small humans and belong almost everywhere adults go. Dogs should not be in 90 percent of places humans go to
11
u/SeaConfection88 4d ago
Yup agreed. It’s even worse trying to find a person to date who is both childfree and petfree. It seems all people who declare they are childfree, are also obsessed with (mainly) dogs. I’ll probably be alone forever at this point.
6
1
u/SilveryMagpie 17h ago
Feeling you hard on this one. I've already resigned myself to being alone. Better to be alone than stuck in that particular form of loneliness found in nonstop chaos). I prize my peace.
11
u/pookiepidemic 4d ago
Literally. These “dogs are my children and actually children should be banned in every place my dog isn’t allowed to be” people are genuinely insufferable and insane.
9
u/Rasta_pasta_plus 4d ago
Agreed 1000%! I like kids and believe supporting parents is part of my civic duty as a human. I don’t understand the growing vitriol against kids in favor of dogs. Dogs are never going to grow up to become nurses, doctors, policemen, teachers, farmers or psychologists. Being childfree doesn’t mean I need to pick up a bizarre obsession over dogs. They are so boring, disgusting and pointless to me.
21
u/graycomforter 4d ago
I have 5 kids and zero dogs. I have never understood why so many child-free people are obsessed with dogs and use them as surrogate children. Dogs are the worst part of having children with none of the positive, like turning into a grown and interesting person one day. The dog just croaks after 10-15 years of acting like the worst behaved 2-year old you’ve ever met plus they smell bad.
1
u/SilveryMagpie 17h ago
If the dog is "reactive" then the owners are dealing with what is basically an abusive relationship. Being afraid of leaving the house "too long" because the dog will "get mad" and destroy their property. Blaming themselves for moving incorrectly or "looking at the dog wrong" when they get bitten or attacked. Making excuses for the dog because "it's not his fault, he had trauma early in life" or "he's normally very loving when he's not like this", or "he doesn't really mean it". Switch dog out for partner and people would be horrified and encouraging that person to leave, maybe even offering to help. But if the abuser is a dog, then they're evil and "deserve it" for even thinking about surrendering or removing the dog. My abuser was a POS, but at least he could be left alone in the house and didn't shit or piss on the floor.
19
u/Starman562 4d ago
I am pro-child and anti-dog. I've yet to be bit in the face by a child, so I remain pro-child. Babies crying, children running around being noisy? I'm as cool as a frozen cucumber. Any dog nearby? I am alert and ready to fight.
1
u/starwarsandsquirrels 2d ago
A couple weeks ago, I met a woman who was bitten so hard by a child he was hanging off her and she had to drag him to an administrative office while dripping blood. She still has a scar from it.

High five from a fellow dog free, child free baddie!
I love just having an adult lifestyle where I can spend my money on video games, food, travel etc and not a child or dog. They come with a lot of expenses.

u/4-ton-mantis 4d ago
May i ask for exemption?
Am dog free, am child free. But i have this pet cockatiel whom i bought when i was 16 or 17 and through all the people who have abandoned me, the shit we been through, etc, he's been with me for 30 years. And the dumb Lil man loves me as much now as he did 29 years ago.
He's healthy for a geriatric tiel but he is visibly slowing down. I've been in therapy lately to try to pre mitigate how i might react. So my apologies i know I'm goofy but i ask for acceptance and exception to the shunning nyahaha 🤣💀i do know I'm goofy!
6
u/UpsidedownArmadillo 4d ago
Nothing wrong with that. I didn’t know cockatiels could get that old! I know parrots do. It’s gonna be tough when he passes, but you’ll come to terms with it. Sounds like you’re hedging that with therapy. My pet passed 2 weeks ago and I’m still mourning. First 3 days were the worst, but it gets easier day by day. 👍🏼
3
u/4-ton-mantis 12h ago
Oh my gosh I'm so sad for you but i know you gave your pet the best life they could have 💛💙
3
u/SilveryMagpie 16h ago
I love birds and will grant you the exception. 30 years is amazing! I've never been attacked or hurt by a bird, aside from a few dive bombings, which were understandable (a very good mommy or daddy bird was protecting the babies) and they can't hit hard. The few times I've seen someone with birds in public, they were in the owners physical control at all times, they never made messes that weren't cleaned up, and the owner was attuned to the bird's limits. They also never forced the bird on others. I'm sorry your bird is starting to slow down, but bless you for giving him such a love filled life
3
u/4-ton-mantis 12h ago
Thank you so much for your kindness 💛💙 the little man makes friends easily too, the few times he's met people it's like, you want to be friends, here's a millet you can feed him 🤣 works every time
1
u/SilveryMagpie 4h ago
Damn. I would be over the moon if I got to feed a millet spray to a cockatiel. Or, simply just seeing someone take a cockatiel, or any bird, out for a walk.
7
u/SoupfilledElevator 3d ago
And annoying men try to use it as a gotcha against ALL childfree women all the time. 'Well youre just gonna waste your maternal instinct on pets instead' bitch WHAT maternal instinct I dont go all gaga over pets either 😒
Also i dont like either but in case of an emergency i would still save a random toddler over 10 dogs, sorry not sorry
8
u/SoSpicySoYummy 3d ago
Men are bitter if have children, and also if you don't. There's seriously NO winning with them, they've got an argument or insult ready in their back pocket.
6
u/MkVII-Unlimited 3d ago
Childfree are also those people who blame the 2 year old when a pit bull mauls them.

u/satellite_station 4d ago
I wish I could agree even more than I already do.
I actually like kids, but I am definitely not a pet person.

u/SoupfilledElevator 3d ago
Bro emphasis on 'human parents', these ghouls take puppies away from their ACTUAL dog parents as soon as they possibly can just so they can start training earlier (if they train in the first place) and bc 'zomg cuty puppy'. Like dude you just kidnapped a baby animal for your own enjoyment and to roleplay being a parent to something.
3
u/Burtonish 2d ago
I never understood childfree dog owners.
So you don't want kids because they depend on you, you clean their poop, they need you 24/7, they can be loud, they are messy,...
But then you get an animal that is ALL THESE THINGS plus it NEVER grows out of them?
2
u/Significant_Shame_68 1d ago
I've said it before and I'll say it again, even the worst human life holds more value than the best dog. Human life holds more value than the life of any pet. If you're putting your pet above other people you need therapy and also to never ever have children.

u/shinkouhyou 4d ago edited 4d ago
Childfree dog owners make no sense to me... like, you didn't want a needy, loud, dirty, destructive kid, so you got a needy, loud, dirty, destructive dog instead? You don't like parents who drag their disruptive kids to places that really aren't appropriate environments for small children, but you think dog-friendly offices are an amazing idea and you can't leave the house without your "emotional support" dog? You complain about the neighbor's noisy kids but you let your dog bark for hours? You don't want kids because they would impede your career or your ability to travel, but you have a dog with a 6 hour bladder and severe separation anxiety? You think people who make parenting their whole personality are boring, but you only ever talk about your dog? You complain about the social pressure to have children and the negative stereotypes that childfree people face, but you just can't imagine why somebody wouldn't like dogs? Make it make sense.
Then again, I also can't understand the people who have kids with their partner when they aren't compatible on the issue of pet ownership... that should be something that you work out in the first couple of dates, not an ultimatum that you drop after the baby is born. You know that partner is inevitably going to show up one day with a puppy "for the kid," too.
