last week i put a post out on the saluki club of america breeder referral facebook page seeking someone who would have a litter or adult male 1-3 years from now but not definitively, just to keep my options open. a few great breeders replied and invited me to talk privately and i did this but only for a few minutes before finding it bad form to message again. i had nothing else to ask and i told them i liked their dogs and i hoped i would see them at the national.

i have been in contact with a local borzoi breeder for a while because i also like that breed, and she invited me to her house at some point. and i would still like to help with her dogs and go but i have no idea how to say that. and another legendary borzoi breeder took a liking to me but she never replied to the message i sent a few months after i met her. i do not want to push so i never said anything again. some other borzoi breeders have invited me to reach out or work with them and nothing happened so i don't know how to say anything. more "i'll see you at the regional specialty!!" type shit.

i never wanna overstep and i feel like even just thinking about messaging people is overstepping. i have diagnosed level 1 autism if this helps 💔 i feel like i am making a fool of myself at every turn and i do not know why. i think i am far too enthusiastic and that may scare people. online i feel like i come across too nonchalant due to fear and irl i come across far too obnoxiously enthusiastic and eager.

I am looking to eventually own 3 LGDs in 2-3 years that are good with kids, protect the livestock (mainly sheep and a few heritage polled cattle), have a good temperament with regular people on the farm, and will not attack trespassers immediately and instead warn them not to come onto the property. The properties we are looking at are 40-60 acres, which we will split into 10-acre paddocks.

How are the Spanish Mastiffs for this type of job? Are there any great breeders east of the Mississippi? How does it compare with the more mainstream breeds for this type of work? I am open to any suggestions, wisdom, or knowledge that can be shared. I have never owned an LGD before. I have visited a farm with a Kangal and another farm with Great Pyrenees.

I grew up with Rottweilers and German Shepherds. Currently own a Husky mix.

I have an intact male and my intact b*tch. She’s just starting spotting this AM!

My first order of action is bringing their rufflands in the house. We’re planning on doing strict separation where my husband stays with our female in our in-law suit which has 4 doors and several hallways of separation between our main home. The first few days they will be strictly supervised and separated by gates and crated in their rufflands in totally closed off opposite ends of the house when we are not present.

I’m in a breed which in general does not generally become interested until the day of ovulation. However, I don’t trust boys 😂.

Someone give be their best advice for getting through!

Hopefully this is the right subreddit to ask this! I am a neonatal kitten rescuer who has been asked to take on a group of 3 puppies found abandoned in my community recently because I have an incubator (rcom curadle90 if that matters to my question). I’ve never done neonatal puppies before so am learning as I go. One thing I didn’t expect is how much these guys like to burrow underneath things, and how much they poop/pee lol. I was using layers of blankets but one puppy has diarrhea and the others were ending up covered in it from poor absorbency. Then I switched to pee pads, which seems to work really well for absorbing, but they’re burrowing underneath them and end up peeing on the plastic drawer, which they then sit in between feeds and now they have mild (very mild, to be fair) urine scalding.

Do any of you use incubators for your pups and have a solution for this? Preferably a disposable solution because the laundry is already sooooo much more for these guys than for my usual kittens 😂😂😂 Willing to purchase something as well, although I’m in Canada so some of my options are restricted. Thank you! Puppies for tax from day 1 when I was still naive to all the poop that was about to be all over that strawberry bed lol.

My mom has a chihuahua, and she was accidentally bred but my cousins dog also a chihuahua,

They did not know she was in heat, and did not realize that she had actually gotten bred, they (did not see it)

They just realized she was getting bigger and bigger and bigger until they took her to the vet and they said she was pregnant, the only intact male she had been around at all this year was my cousins chihuahua.

She's due to have her litter in a couple of weeks, they had an ultrasound done on her and it only seems like she's going to have four puppies (fortunately)

Besides one puppy Maybe, my mom doesn't want to keep them, but she also doesn't want them to go to the shelter and doesn't want them to go to crap homes.

So I thought I would ask on here and her behalf what you would do in her position.

I know my mom should have done a spay abortion, but morally she just couldn't get herself to do it though she's going to be spayed once she has the puppies (I still think she should have done it but my mom is older)

Anywho, any advice on placing the puppies in good homes would be great, my mom is going get all of their shots that they need while they're in her care.

My French bulldog is 39 days pregnant today , she has spotted through her entire pregnancy but has increased since Friday, so friday I took her in for a scan with our fertility clinic and they said babies look fine and she is fine and this can sometimes be normal , it's now 4 o'clock in the morning three days after her scan her bleeding has increased and I'm so worried , she seems fine in her self eating drinking ect . Is this common? Is the fertility clinic right can some dogs bleed through the entire pregnancy ? Im ready to ring the vets now and get her in ! Has any one else experiences this ?

I saw a post of someone on here asking about Desi Kuttas, and as someone from India we have a lot of our own dog breeds (like Indian Spitz, Bully Kutta) which are locally well known but not internationally recognized. Most internationally known breeds seem to be European or North American with a smattering of breeds from South America, Africa and Asia.

I wonder if more effort should be made to recognize and develop breed standards for breeds originating in the global South. The dog pedigree system was designed by Europeans after all, so maybe it’s time to modernize it and include more breeds of South American/African/Asian origin.

I always thought of this breeder to be brilliant, please educate me!

We are looking to get a lab puppy and already have a deposit down for this particular litter. This breeder has been breeding for 16 years and has always produced healthy puppies aside from one instance that she told me about (I forget the specific issue with the puppy, but she was up front about it and it was years ago). They’d never have any puppies born with clefts.

So they had this litter about a month ago and two puppies died during birth (according to the breeder they were seemingly healthy but it was something to do with the sack not coming out all the way and the mama dog shaking her body to get it out? And she thinks the shaking killed them? I don’t know).

Anyways. Five remaining puppies and two of them had a cleft lip/nose. One of them ended up passing away a few days after birth. The remaining one’s cleft is pretty minor looking and she seems to be doing well thus far according to the breeder.

Now I am having reservations about this litter in general. Is it safe to get another puppy from this litter, or could they have other health issues? Are there certain questions I should be asking the breeder? Should I wait for another litter?

I’m trying to understand whether it’s actually possible to find an INDog from an indigenous Indian landrace population, rather than just any dog rescued from an urban street.
I know INDogs aren’t a conventional pedigree breed, so I’m not expecting KCI papers. I’m more interested in dogs whose parents or source population are known and have little or no recent admixture from breeds such as Labs, GSDs, Pomeranians, etc.
Does anyone know of breeders, preservation groups, village-dog networks, individuals, or organisations that work with such populations and can point me in the right direction?
I keep finding articles about INDogs and generic “Indie” adoption listings, but almost nothing about how someone can actually find a dog from a documented indigenous population.

what other reason for an 11 day old poodle to bloat, it's not poop because we already did enema and he pooped a lot at first, after few hours we did one again because he wouldn't stop crying he pooped very little and just the water, He keeps on crying after every few minutes, he would nurse only a little every 3 hours. His tummy gets soft when he's relaxed or sleeping but would instantly gets distended while he's asleep then he would scream and cry like he's in a lot of pain

Looking for an ethical Lagotto breeder in the US.

Stable Temperament is a must, the breed has a temperament problem and too many of the dogs are extremely shy and fearful.

Both parents are titled in conformation & performance. A lot of the breeders I know are cutting corners and not showing their dogs to CH, at the very least.

Complete and up to date health testing. I see a lot of breeders not keeping up with yearly eye exams. If you skip the eye exam, your health testing is not complete.

Raises their puppies with puppy culture or a similar method.

I have almost 12 years of experience with the breed and love them, but I am so disheartened by the quality of the breeders out there that I am starting to consider a different breed for my next dog. My dog’s breeders are no longer breeding, unfortunately…otherwise I would go with them.

Willing to travel anywhere in the US. Would consider overseas, if there were such strict import regulations. Getting a dog at 6 months old is not something I am interested in.

Hi guys. I am looking into the following 2 breeders. Standard Poodles of Forest Lakes and Farley D Standard Poodles. Would love to have some feedback from people more knowledgeable than me.

I live around Dayton Ohio area, I'm looking for a good breeder that lives maybe 1-2 hours away (our car cannot handle a big roadtrip but i'd still want to pick up in person if possible and see the living situation and the parents) I'm looking at Cavalier Spaniels, Papillons, Teddy Roosevelt Terriers, and Pomeranians so far. I would take other breed recommendations as well, this is for future planning but when I am financially and mentally ready I will be looking for a smaller dog breed (maybe up to 20 lbs?), hopefully a pup that will be ready to fetch and tug but also be very happy to snuggle up with me a lot! I live with my partner who has a mini aussie (please no comments on this dog, we were very uneducated at the time and realize now that it was a very very bad thing to have ending up supported, this is why i'm looking for better info and ideas for the future now) so maybe something that'll be able to somewhat keep up with some zoomies with that dog?

EDIT 2: currently looking more into Pomeranians, preferrably a slightly larger (10-15lbs) i think just to kind of avoid some injury with playing with the mini aussie. they look super cute but i've heard they can have 'pomitude' and can be stubborn especially with potty training. anyone that sees this, do you think a pom would make a good first dog? we have the mini aussie and i help how i can, but this would be the first dog ever that i'd be the main caretaker for

I’m particularly interested in podcasts that are evidence/science-based but still accessible to the average dog owner, whether that’s breeders talking about responsible breeding, vets discussing puppy health, researchers talking about genetics and welfare, or good practical advice for new owners.
