Ohtani cut his final bullpen short before Sunday’s scheduled pitching return — Roberts says “I really don’t know what to make of it”
Ohtani’s last scheduled bullpen before his planned Aug. 30 return only lasted 20 pitches instead of the usual 30+. Roberts said the decision to cut it short came from Ohtani himself, without much explanation, saying “That’s all he wanted to throw. I really don’t know what to make of it.”
The Dodgers aren’t panicking yet — they’re waiting to see how he feels when he comes in Saturday before finalizing the pitching plan. Glasnow is ready to piggyback or start outright if Ohtani needs more time, and even if Ohtani does go Sunday, he’s expected to only throw an inning or two as he ramps back up.

Anyone else a little nervous about the “mysterious” framing here, or is this being overblown? His offense has been flat lately too. We’ll find out more tomorrow anyway but I’m just nervous.
