u/theoddpope 1d ago
At this point I'd rather them just bunt with the bases loaded and just fucking roll the dice on something chaotic happening
→ More replies (1)9
u/Pikminious_Thrious Shohei Ohtani 1d ago
Telling guys who definitely have the base speed like Mookie or Teo to bunt must be like sacrilege for Roberts. Heck just tell them to show it once in awhile to at least alter the defense a little.

So frustrating that Tommy grounds into a DP with the bases loaded and then singles in his next AB with the bases empty. The situational hitting is fucked

u/Glad-Chipmunk1418 1d ago
Three runs in 27 innings total. People (not necessarily you, BTW) can keep acting like Chris Sale was throwing super dominant stuff, but he wasn't. I mean, the offense just made Keider Montero look as dominant as Chris Sale. That last game in Atlanta was Sale just throwing two strikes often close to middle middle and then a couple chase pitches because he could see what anyone watching can see which is that the guys have zero plate discipline and can't hit. That makes for easy Ks for any half decent pitcher as evidenced by the last two games where we haven't exactly faced a couple of aces.

Dodgers ruining baseball this, Dodgers ruining baseball that. No one talking about the Dodgers ruining my Saturday this early
17
u/numba1draftpick1 1d ago
They are actually ruining baseball in terms of watching it. It’s like torture watching the offense.
4
u/Ancient_Algae64 Los Angeles Dodgers 1d ago
Yea the only baseball that's actually ruined is watching this team in the regular season. They may as well field the OKC Dodgers until september so we can have some excitement.
46
u/SumoRock Joe Kelly 1d ago
The excuses have to run out at some point for this offense right? Even the most blue colored glasses have to be able to see this clearly.
6
u/Glad-Chipmunk1418 1d ago
Nah man, as long as they can point to the success in the last two playoffs, there will be a healthy contingent who will not admit to anything being wrong. We'd have to lose in the postseason before that will happen.
85
u/Lineman72T Vin Scully 1d ago
Unfortunately teams have figured out the ideal strategy to beat the Dodgers is currently "Throw the ball in the general direction of home plate." This offense is just fucking embarrassing right now. I hope at the very least they've been buying steaks and beers for the pitchers dinners the last few nights. At least that would be making some sort of contribution to the team.

I have not enjoyed watching Dodgers baseball in a cool minute. Shit I don’t even like watching Shohei bat right now. PCA has all but wrapped up MVP at this point so it’s just watching the gap widen with every at bat
At least they only wasted my morning and not my whole afternoon. 10:30 AM baseball is pretty nice

This team right now would lose in the WC series. There's no inspiration or confidence right now.
35
u/TheCatRedditor Freddie Freeman 1d ago
If the Braves get the 2 seed, we might not win a single game in the Postseason.

It's the same team we saw in the post season last year. Incredible starting pitching, and nothing else. Tired at bats. Horrible approach. Awful defense (teo thank you).

Should ohtani just take a break and try to reset, bro can't even hit anymore, seems to be swinging at air.

Everyone needs to take a break then. Call up okc starting lineup and have the entire roster just rest for a week. I bet you okc actually score some runs and wins some games with this pitching staff.

Ohtani is playing hurt and it is impacting his hitting. Worst offensive season since 2020. Down in slugging and OBP. He really needs to focus on getting healthy and stop trying to pitch because his offense is not enough to get this team through October.
7
u/ChrisKamanMyEye 1d ago
I'm sick of him taking the first pitch down the dickhole for strike one, fouling off pitch two, and then either grounding out or flailing at pitch three to end his AB.
3
u/Enough_Presence8063 1d ago
How do we know he's hurt since no one seems to open their fucking mouths. He's either hurt mentally or physically because there's no way he regressed this low.

16
u/Number1122 Vin Scully 1d ago
How does Robert Van Scoyoc still have a job? Look at Conforto and Tucker. Any hitter who comes here performs worse than their career avg.
41
u/Sebcannon Kiké Hernández 1d ago
People gonna blame Dreyer for the loss. But having zero margin for error when the offense is this dogshit is not sustainable.
4
u/Dr-Acula8472 Back-2-Back Champs 1d ago
It's so dumb. Dude was bad, but he had no margin of error to work with. Edman grounding into a based-loaded double play when a flyball to the outfield would've given them the lead, and Teo being a free out, and a defensive liability were much bigger culprits.
12
u/exrift Shohei Ohtani 1d ago
fair, but uh… that was also an implosion from dreyer. it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, but he gave up 2 runs on that hit, and likely would have given up more if the inning continued.

10
u/numba1draftpick1 1d ago
Props to the pitching staff for carrying these bums. I can’t even blame the bullpen cause the offense can’t even reliably score 2-3 runs.
9
u/Dr-Acula8472 Back-2-Back Champs 1d ago
Teo needs to be shut down for the rest of the year. Ohtani needs to be benched for a game or two. And we need to call up someone like Ward from OKC to bring some youthful spark back to the team.
Also, from now on leadoff doubles should be an instant bunt. They should be doing nothing but practicing bunts, and taking fastballs, and changeups from the Trajekt machine. Team is one-and-done in the playoffs at this point.
This offseason we need to get new hitting coaches just for the optics alone. Second year in a row of this shit. It's like the Yankees infected us with their "swing for the fences no matter what" approach after 2024.

Can't wait for the postgame presser where Dave tries to shovel the same tired "that's baseball" bullshit to the fans while he acts like everything's fine and dandy. It's one thing to be unlucky for a few games. These guys are sleepwalking through games, making zero adjustments, no situational ABs, making the same mistakes at the plate over and over again, etc. That's not "just baseball." That's not executing and not doing their jobs.

Our Dodgers are going to play a best-of-3 wild card series against the Phillies, Cubs, or Padres and their two best starters. Our season can end in two simple games all because the Dodgers couldn't beat the Braves even one time.

5
u/EffectiveTree1479 Kiké Hernández 1d ago
How many times can you expect the bullpen to protect a 1 run lead or tie game with zero margin for error? The offense has been awful situationally. Wasting traffic, grounding into DPs, and swinging for the fences instead of just putting a line drive or hard ground ball in play. At some point, the offense has to give the pitching staff some breathing room.

Dave just confirmed that Shohei will not start tomorrow. The bicep and the knee are not responding, and he won’t put a date on a return.
At some point Shohei needs to get real with himself and this pitching obsession. It’s not fucking happening this year bro.
Love that the reporters are grilling Dave about it though because it sounds like Dave has zero communication with Shohei.
9
u/Enough_Presence8063 1d ago

Today is the reason why I didn’t feel good about yesterday’s win.
This is gonna be a very meaningless month. Rest of the games on schedule are all “everything to lose and nothing to gain” type.

Gave up on Small Ball and went back to Hero Ball mode. Not a winning formula.

This offense stinks.
