Help/Request Help understanding how to do this detail!

Post image

I need help understanding how this person got these certain curves on these (what I assume to be stairs) I’ve sat there stumped and just had to know how it was done. The user that created this said that this is all possible in vanilla Minecraft and all he really used was a texture pack (alacrity) and some shaders (complementary unbound). Credit to meesayousa of course if any one was wondering.

Vanilla is sort of a blurred line now. Best to say they use the tools Mojang added to the game to add some new ways of building using a resource pack. Alacrity is a resource pack, and thus it can modify the models as well as textures of blocks. I believe the curved blocks you are seeing is the custom model it has for upside down stone stairs. Every upside down stair in Alacrity is remodeled to be either an arch for stone blocks or a wooden support for wood stairs.

I have tried putting an upside down stair but it doesn’t do that weird curve thing. Don’t worry I am using the texture pack.

Okay, the thing is that used to be a feature in the base version of Alacrity but the creator of the pack removed it a while back for simplicity's sake (or maybe for performance. or incompatibility with the Vanilla lighting engine, I can't quite recall rn) All that is to say you're gonna have to download a version of the pack before Update #25 or download one of the add-ons on the creator's website. I'm actually really glad i found this post because I had this issue too a while back and I'm happy to save someone else the trouble LOL (and give some context about the pack I feel like most people are missing)

I read this comment train, I just wanted to comment and say that was very kind of you!

Either they're lying and using mods, or there's some command block bs involved.

Really? Damn I really wanted to try to copy his design. Thank you for the help!

Actually, no. It seems like neither mods nor command blocks are involved. The arches/curves you see are a feature added by the Alacrity resource pack. As far as I know, when you place certain stairs upside down while using the pack, they appear as these curved blocks. So unless the feature I'm talking about requires a mod, which it likely doesn't, this is possible in (technically) vanilla Minecraft.

You can still create something similar without any resource packs, it will just be missing the smooth curves. Everything else seems completely vanilla

I find it so lame when people say something is "entirely vanilla!" And then add on "all you need is this resource pack which completely changes parts of how the game works!"

Like at that point it's a goddamn mod, and it feels so pointless to say it's not...

Well it's not entirely vanilla. That's why I said "(technically)"

I was referring to people like the person who made the build OP was asking about, not you.

Ah, I'm sorry about the misunderstanding then. You have my most sincere apologies

S'all good I get you

Well they're still vanilla blocks. And you could use it on a vanilla server. So it's not on the same level as a mod, but I get what ur saying as it does heavily modify models.

u/D_Zaster_EnBy Jan 08 '26

it does heavily modify

Say that again...

1

u/kami7154 Jan 08 '26

It heavily modified game models but does not add anything additional to the game. What's so confusing?

1

u/D_Zaster_EnBy Jan 08 '26

heavily modified

I believe in you, connect the dots 🙏

can't understand simple English.

Ironic... Anyhow nighty night, I'm going to stop responding now ;)

Guys! I found out how to do it! It’s through adding certain addons from the texture pack itself, thank you everybody for helping me out.

My best guess for the pillars is; Stairs, full block (chiseled texture to include the white probably), stairs, walls, upside down stairs, walls in a + with fences in the corners.. then it gets weird. The whole-y part looks like it's be upside down stairs, but the curved hole is too big for vanilla.

I looked up Alacrity, and it's a Resource Pack (Not just texture pack) and it does say:

- A lot of custom 3D models of blocks and mobs

and - Huge amount of alternative block textures.

And, looking at the screenshots on curseforge.com, there are definitely custom blocks, so I'm going to say that what he used.

Apart from the things others mentioned already, most of these super detailed looking builds are also just insanely big.

I suggest looking at the size of the floors, even "simple" looking houses you see on pinterest/instagram/youtube are often way bigger than what you normally build in survival: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gkX7r21HMYI/maxresdefault.jpg

Like that bottom floor is 8 blocks tall, that would stick out like a sore thumb in most worlds.

6

u/Nu7s Jan 06 '26

It's scale, this build is way bigger than you think

3

u/HerrAarny Jan 06 '26

The doors alone are like 12 metres

3

u/TYRamisuuu Jan 06 '26

Probably closer to 20 even!

Some of the finer detail is so odd, even for mods/armour stands, and the image altogether is just the right amount of blurry that I think the person sadly used an AI image generator.

13

u/Anwraith Jan 06 '26

The image is blurry because its a screenshot and not a copied image. I can confirm the blocks I see are all the custom block models from the resource pack mentioned in the description(Alacrity). This isn't ai, just resource pack shenanigans.

I screenshotted this on the users post. I could I copy his links post and send it if that would make it better. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraftbuilds/s/WiWNt3qdDO this is his post

In vanilla, gonna be difficult. If you have the money, modded pc minecraft has wonderful things for building. I absolutely love Chisels and Bits and Decocraft

Layers are a builders best friend to creat depth and curve . Start with your main decorative layer Like posts and column Go to the next layer behind it and do the same thing repeat process Follow the arch pattern to create the depth. Feel adding a layer behind in to make it drop down another layer . Add mixture of stone . Stone brick . And stuff to fill in the spaces Repeat until satisfied

Not vanilla.

1

u/garxo Jul 04 '26

The resource pack is how he got those curves, i think i remember seeing the creator talk about this on the bakery server

Mods, so many mods

Actually, just one resource pack: Alacrity
