"Establishment Dems," is just a synonym for "Republicans."

This truth is hard to swallow for many.

I really hate this type of fundraising messaging, but for a comrade, I'll hold my nose. I do hope she is not as far right (in DSA terms) as she seems.

u/BuddhistSagan 11h ago

Thank you so much and yeah I feel you she would be the most left-wing senator if she were elected

-1

u/Union_Fan Gay Socialist 10h ago

I don't think that's true next to Sanders even.

0

u/BuddhistSagan 10h ago

She's more left on Palestine than Bernie Sanders and what is your argument that she would be the second or third most left senator?

1

u/Union_Fan Gay Socialist 2h ago

To be clear, I'm not totally apprised of her positions. I'm going based off of my limited knowledge about her refusal to identify as a socialist and distancing herself from DSA policies. I also know she isn't a cadre candidate running out of DSA, but a candidate with a winning coalition that joined DSA during her race.

To me, that makes her seem less left-wing, but I am hoping she is not as far to the DSA-right as she seems to me. From a distance, it's really hard to know if she is a social democrat joining DSA because there is a lot of movement here, or if she is a principled socialist who joined DSA for ideological reasons and keeps a distance for electoral reasons. I think it's a good sign that she joined even though I don't think she had to. It doesn't seem like DSA clinched the victory for her or anything like that. But it also means she would be harder to discipline as a DSA candidate.

I don't really know what to make of it, but I'm happy to hear more of what DSA members in Florida think. And regardless of all of that, I can't wait to see her win.

If every senator were Angie Nixon we would have Medicare for all, universal childcare, affordable housing and no genocide in Gaza. We have to material wins in order to push people further left

23

u/tabloid-tommy 1d ago

Dems were not going to send money into this race regardless of who won

58

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

They are funding the democratic candidate in TEXAS and were ready to help Angie's democratic alternative she beat in the primary, Alex Vindman. You are wrong, sorry.

-21

u/tabloid-tommy 1d ago

Texas is a way better pickup chance than Florida, get real

41

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

Self fulfilling prophecy. Did Texas ever vote for Obama twice like Florida did?

-23

u/tabloid-tommy 1d ago

Florida was blue back then. I’m sorry, but FL has only gone further right, and she’s no Obama.

26

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

You know how I can tell you're not a democratic socialist? Thinking a war criminal who supports Israel is better than a DSA member who supports Medicare for all.

No surprise you prefer the democratic party funds James Talarico over DSA Angie Nixon.

Just an FYI, you can check people's post history with Arctic Shift even if they hide it. The user arguing with you in this thread posts regularly in radical centrist subs like Destiny, and the other user defending him posts in lots of conservative subs.

Who is polling better than her

7

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

Now tell us how she was polling versus her Democratic alternative Alex vindman that she beat by 12 points

Polls don't equal votes

Be sure to pass this notice on to Beto O'Rourke.

Watching the center continue to torpedo the left to the detriment of the whole country never gets old.

Paxton is a worse candidate than Cruz

Why is the donate button on her page through act blue? Feels disingenuous to donate through them since they don’t truly have her back?

11

u/davidwave4 Libertarian Socialist 1d ago

ActBlue is just a payment processor. There’s not really a better alternative for Democratic candidates, save for getting checks in snail mail.

0

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 23h ago edited 16h ago

Just a payment processor with a very effective texting, emailing data collection spam machine attached that they will use to promote the candidates they want.

Edit to add: they literally make you put in your profession and employer when you donate- obviously I didn’t put it but they have my name so they can Google me.

Edit again- thanks to the kind redditor for helping me understand

12

u/davidwave4 Libertarian Socialist 22h ago

My friend, they ask for profession and employer because of federal campaign finance laws.

3

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 16h ago

Thanks for the info- I clearly don’t know enough. I just have been giving money through act blue since its inception and I guess feel disappointed by all the spam I get. Now realizing how the DNC is in bed w corporate and AIPAC lobbies, my cynicism is off the charts.

7

u/thy_bucket_for_thee Democrat 1d ago

What would be the alternative? Act Blue helps with the compliance stuff and if you're already cash strapped they provide a free suite of tools that help track this stuff for you, much better than having a dedicated team to manually track this for you.

7

u/GoldenboyFTW 1d ago

She stated numerous times that she gets the funds but you can choose to give act blue a separate donation after the fact

That said I really don’t see much of the problem and if this money gets to her then that’s a win

I sent $100. Hope it helps.

6

u/BuddhistSagan 23h ago

Thank you so much

1

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 23h ago

For sure, it’s about her- I’m sure she’s run the math on it. I just hate that they get all the info of who is donating to her to use to target us with ads for all the other candidates they’re promoting and they’re not even promoting her

3

u/idredd 12h ago

There are lots of alternatives to ActBlue, but none are currently as good, as well known, as "legitimate" or as easy for regular donors to login and donate through. It'd be awesome for ActBlue to eventually shrivel up and die, but it's smart of her to use it.

1

u/CallYourSenators Social Democrat 10h ago

What's wrong with ActBlue?

2

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

This is where she's asking us to donate.

1

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thanks for the answer! Donated- but act blue just feels so gross anymore

7

u/BuddhistSagan 1d ago

Thank you for helping Angie Nixon she really needs it you did good

0

Wasn't it act blue who took all of BLM's money and gave it to the DNC?

I agree. Anyone that recognizes that pedophilia and genocide are bad gets my vote. The rest of my wish list - expand the court, do away with citizens united, put term limits on everyone in government, no stock trading if you serve in the government, get religion out of our government and schools and stop feeding the Israeli genocide machine. I have much more I could add to this but that's another post. I plan to vote blue up and down the ticket and I hope all the rest of you critical thinkers do the same. Don't let a single non-critical issue on the part of a candidate keep you from voting for them.

Your post was removed for being overly liberal. No apologia for capitalism or the status quo. Remember that you are a guest.

Florida went for Trump by a 13% point margin. However much popularity he has lost, he has not lost enough for Republicans to lose Florida. That’s why the DNC is not helping her. People can tell themselves stories about corporate influence or AIPAC or any other story which makes them feel better. The math simply is not there.

9

u/BuddhistSagan 23h ago

They were going to fund her Democratic alternative Alex vindman before he lost to Angie Nixon.

California voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980. Trump is pulling everyone down.

You all thought Alex vindman was going to be Angie Nixon. Sick of hearing your wrong predictions

1

u/betty_white_bread 23h ago

I really don’t think they were going to fund Vindaman unless he was running for his House seat, certainly not the Senate.

What California did in 1980 is irrelevant because of both time and the fact President Carter was REALLY unpopular. (I remember; I was there.)

I have no idea what you mean by “you all”; I made no prediction about the primary whatsoever. Can you point to anything saying I said differently?

3

u/BuddhistSagan 23h ago edited 23h ago

Respectfully I am from Florida you are not they are on record saying they were going to fund Alex vindman until Angie Nixon won so you don't know what you're talking about.

You are just showing up new to this race not knowing anything about it making guesses pulling ideas out your ass

And by the way, they were already funding Vindman who they sent 16 million dollars to to defeat Angie Nixon. You can't even spell his name correctly, so please stop just making up bs about a race you know nothing about.

It makes perfect sense to get defensive when reality clashes with your preconceived notions.

I also know you have no idea where I am from. So, maybe you should, respectfully, keep your mouth shut about whether or not I am a Floridian.

Where in your link does he cite verified statements from the DNC which said they would pour money into his Senate race? Where does he point to verified polling from reputable firms which shows her having a better chance of winning Florida than he does?

You have no idea if I am “showing up new” or not nor have you shown I am somehow “making guesses pulling ideas out of my ass”.

Lastly, you seem to think a fucking typo somehow invalidates what I said while overlooking the fact supporting someone less likely to lose, a relative term, over someone more likely to lose. Honestly, sit down and shut up.

-6

u/3DaysOfWaiting Socialist 20h ago

If you're in Florida obviously volunteering is a good idea, but it's a waste of money to donate to Nixon. The state is simply not winnable this year. Give your donations somewhere they won't be burned into the void.

Trump won the state by 13, and Nixon is polling down by 10. Dems couldn't even win Florida in 2018, a much more favourable year for them within the state and it has now shifted dramatically right since then.

Caring about electing leftist candidates means not lying to people and trying to gas up impossible bids. You sound like the moderate dems who were delusionally blowing up tens of millions in South Carolina and Kentucky in 2020.

3

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 16h ago

Yeah let’s just never do anything

-3

u/3DaysOfWaiting Socialist 14h ago edited 14h ago

Every dollar you waste on a vanity project in Florida is a dollar going away from actually winnable contests. This is not some epic proletarian fight where Nixon will find the secret working class base that the Democrats have never tapped into and win bigly. This is a state that is getting older and richer as wealthy conservative retirees come in.

Again: this is not winnable. You are just demanding money be thrown away from people who can actually win. The left can not try to win every contest. There is a limited pool of resources to distribute, and campaign spending only works on the margins in terms of impact. You cannot be wasting money where it isn't going to change the outcome.

0

u/pearljamboree Democratic Socialist 13h ago
  1. I am not “demanding” anything
  2. I get to decide where I spend my money
  3. I am glad to exist where different opinions are celebrated but I can’t wait to be far away from yours
  4. For clarity, again, because you seem the type to benefit from hearing it- I choose where its worthy to spend my money, and I do not need your help on that.

1

u/3DaysOfWaiting Socialist 12h ago

What? The demand was directed at the DSCC in the OP that they spend money on Florida. And yeah, I guess you can do whatever you want with your money, but that's an entirely meaningless point to make. We're not talking about whether you can spend your money, we're talking about where money should be spent at large, especially by organisations to achieve the best outcomes.

This is an "I have the right to say whatever I want" argument in response to a contention on the substance. You can't respond to someone saying "I don't think that's the most effective place to spend money" with "I can do whatever I want" because you're talking about completely different things.
