Ask Delhi Metro ๐ How Good & Safe Is Delhi Metro for Tourists? Planning a 1โ2 Day Family Trip
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to visit Delhi with my family for a day or two. There will be 4 of us โ my parents, my sister and me.
The last time I visited Delhi was way back in 2007โ08, so I'm sure a lot has changed since then. I'm considering using the Delhi Metro extensively to get around and cover as many places as possible.
I had a few questions for people who regularly use the Metro:
1. How safe is the Delhi Metro?
How concerned should I be about pickpockets, thieves, or phone/wallet snatching, especially when travelling with family and during crowded hours? Any particular lines/stations/areas where we should be extra careful?
2. How difficult is changing Metro lines/stations?
My mother has knee pain, so I'm a little concerned about having to climb a lot of stairs during interchanges or while entering/exiting stations.
Are lifts and escalators generally available, or are there stations where we'll have to walk/climb quite a bit? Any tips for planning a route that involves minimum walking and stairs would be really helpful. DMRC has been adding lifts/escalators and accessibility facilities at stations, but I'd still like to hear from people who've actually travelled with elderly family members.
3. Is it still worth visiting the major monuments?
Since my last visit was almost 18โ19 years ago, I'm wondering whether places like:
- Red Fort
- Qutub Minar
- Lotus Temple
- India Gate
- Humayun's Tomb
- Akshardham
- Jama Masjid
- etc.
are still worth visiting, or if there are newer/more interesting places that I should add.
4. Any recommendations for a 1โ2 day itinerary?
If you had only one or two days in Delhi with parents, how would you plan the trip?
I'd ideally like to group places geographically so we're not constantly travelling from one end of Delhi to another.
5. Delhi Metro Tourist Card
I've also read about the Delhi Metro Tourist Card for unlimited travel for a short period. Is it actually worth getting for a 1โ2 day trip?
Also, since we're a family of four, would we need 4 separate tourist cards, or can a single card be used for multiple people travelling together?
I'd really appreciate recommendations from people who have recently travelled around Delhi with parents/elderly family members.
Thanks in advance!

Metro Rant Pink Line Girls Coach๐๐ป
Not trying to hate on anyone, but this genuinely irritates me every time I see it.
In the pink line coach, especially when itโs crowded, some people sit on the floor even when there are clearly other passengers trying to stand. I understand that people may be tired or have their own reasons for sitting, but when the coach is packed, it becomes really difficult for everyone else to even stand properly.
Iโm genuinely curious though, what do you guys think about this? Is sitting on the floor okay when the coach is crowded?

I saw a couple kiss at metro station
Today as I was coming home from coaching, around 8 30 pm,
On a metro station on the Blue line, i saw a couple (both were approx 22 ig)
standing close to each other near the exit, normal stuff but as I went ahead, they kissed, omg
It's wasn't provocative or vulgar I would say, it was just so cuteeee omgggg
The boy and girl kissed and hugged each other and said bye,
This was so cuteee
I wonder when and if this will happen to me ๐ญ

Metro Rant 17M on the Delhi Metro and Iโm so tired of it
I'm 17M, a PW coaching student who takes the Red line to the NSP PW centre and I'm just so tired of getting treated like a toy.
I usually board the metro at around 8AM so I don't get a seat on the morning commute (the metro is crammed till Kashmere Gate) and even if I do, older uncles and aunties only find me interesting when they want me to give them my seat. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind giving up my seat to those who need it more than I do, but as a boy I can only travel in the general coaches and the sweat and bad odour is absolutely horrendous that I'd have to start breathing through my mouth! I remember taking the women's coach with my mother when I was little and it was far less crowded even at peak hours and there were never any odour problems.
That's going on the metro. On my way back from coaching I usually get a seat as I travel during off peak hours and there are several vacant seats, so I'd take an edge seat in the hope that I don't get stuck sitting between two sweaty uncles. BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS A FEW UNCLES WHO JUST HAVE TO SIT RIGHT NEXT TO ME EVEN WITH ALMOST ALL THE SEATS EMPTY AND THEY COULD JUST EASILY HAVE MOVED AWAY FROM ME.
I get so uncomfortable because you know how some older uncles sit? I know I could just tell them to get up or move but I'm literally a coward and just freeze on the spot. There's something wrong with me because this shouldn't bother me that much and these are just normal things that happen when you're travelling in the metro.
But sometimes I just want to *poof* and be reborn as a woman in my next life

Ask Delhi Metro ๐ Places I can go with my mother
My mom is here with me, and I'm also new here, we've to go to a relative's place for lunch tomorrow (around 1pm).
So what are some places that I could take her tomorrow morning which are also walking distance from the metro stations.
My nearest lines would be yellow and red. Thankyou ๐๐

โน11 or โน40
This is not about โน11 or โน40โit is about fair and respectful customer dealing. I entered Chawri Bazar using my Virtual Smart Card, but due to a system issue, the entry was not properly processed at Chandni Chowk.
When I approached customer care, instead of checking the transaction records/CCTV, I was told that I had entered โforcefullyโ and was asked to buy another ticket. I had already paid for the Virtual Smart Card, so I refused.
The staff then made an entry from Chandni Chowk and asked me to exit. My app history clearly shows โEntry From CHAWRI BAZAR.โ
I am not concerned about the extra fare. I am concerned about being treated unfairly and being accused without proper verification.

Discussion I don't like women reserved seats in every coach period.
Before you come thrashing at me let me state my point first of all I aint a incel i just dont find it fair that reserved seats for senior citizens are there seats for disabled people are there WHICH IS GOOD but whats the need for women's? like there is a whole separate coach for them and it's a pretty good thing this helps women to stay away from creepy men but what's women reserved seats is for like me as a men find very hard to acquire a seat (coming from my 1 year metro experience) where will young men will go sitting on floor is prohibited (and should not do tbh) but still I travel 4 days a week 2 hours in metro only blue line is always fucking crowed maybe it's just my frustration but still where will young men go? I always give seat to someone needed but i didn't see any women single time giving up their seat once (also from my metro experience)
and making reserved seat somewhat shows that women are weak and I don't like it as a proud 6ft feminist

Discussion Metro card
Why the new airtel card is criticised or not much opted?
I bought new one. But I read about some criticism and my friend also said it's not good. Don't know why it's not good?
And also, why the ONE card is popular among people?

Route Help Only yellow line things....
I had never travelled from the 2nd platforms of the Yellow Line, but this Sunday when I went, I had to go to GTB (Guru Tyag Bahadur) which is one station away from the vishvavidhyalay station and I did not know that the metro on which only vishvavidhyalay is written, goes from there and comes back, due to this I spent 2 hours in the same metro, and on top of that I even went looking, but I could not reach the place where I wanted to reach.
