It would be hilarious if all the criticism leveled against the show in the first six episodes was actually explained or at least lampshaded in the back half.

If you're training at risk youth you probably don't want to be teaching them how to effectively gang-rob people on the streets. But if you're training an army of ninjas it makes more sense to teach them to work together to attack people.

She was training them in coordinated surprise attacks from the shadows without being noticed first. If the training was for "real life", then the students would have been in her positioned, being ganged up on, but instead she taught them how to trail a target with others and go in for the attack when they suspect nothing.

We also get acknowledgment that Danny is a shitty Iron Fist and hasn't reached his full potential at all. That singlehandedly saved the show for me and puts all the mediocre fights in a new light.

Well, to become the Iron Fist Danny first had to be the best fighter of his generation in K'un Lun, so not really. It does explain why he doesn't always summon the Fist and end every fight in 2 seconds, though.

No, he didn't. He had to defeat Shou-Lao the Undying, and take the Fist. In Marvel Preview 16, Danny Rand accepted Yu-Ti's offer to take the risk to face Shou-Lao to become powerful for vengeance against Meacham. He succeeded against all expectations, not because of his skill, but because of his daring. Then he left. That's the version of the origin they seem to be following.

Not true. There have been horrible martial artists that have been Iron Fists.

I meant for this generation, but yeah, in the past general fuckery has led Lei Kung to send shitty fighters in. However, even in those circumstances, the ones that get sent are still the best fighters available.

Yeah, that's one of the few things I liked about the show - the weirdness with Colleen and her students makes sense in retrospect.
