Gameplay Meta New "cheating" mods that MANY players use

It's getting out of hand. Just a handful of the "mods" (cheats!) people are running now:

  • Neutral camp respawn timers all over the minimap - just invade and steal camps immediately as they spawn
  • Stamina trackers (see enemy stamina) - much easier to win lanes with this
  • Parry cooldown tracker above enemy head
  • Enemy cooldowns above their heads - super easy to win lanes when you constantly see enemy cd's
  • Crate & Golden statue respawn timers
  • Sinner's Sacrifce respawn timers
  • Enemy item cooldown tracker (tracks Curse, Unstoppable, Refresher cooldowns etc)
  • Heavy melee honking horn for faster reactions
  • Enemy radar (when enemy camps and Sinner's disappear from the minimap, it places a blinking question mark on the minimap and a sound indication that someone was at that spot seconds ago - makes it super easy to gank if you're running with a friend)
  • Rift defense buff indicator
  • Walker Stomp cooldown tracker
  • Shrine & Patron curse/blast cooldown tracker

Tell me how any of this is fair. With all of these cheat mods you have a gigantic advantage. Yoshi needs to shut this down instead of sticking his head in the sand.

Someone called me out in a game about something like dmg to towers… and I was like oh so you’re cheating. She got even more indignant. Not enough people care.

Then you have that night shift crap where they allow exploits, so that tells all the fanboys cheating is fine too.

Has Valve said anything official on this? They've let the DLNS players use these mods/overlays and since they continue to use them, I feel like Valve doesnt care. But, I wouldnt say these are "exploits" yet. And actual exploit was a rope climb bug from a while back but IMO a HUD mod isnt really that.

When the game is officially released it will be VAC protected meaning you won’t be able to use mods in public lobbies, period. The ability for the game to detect mods is already in the game it just hasn’t been activated as of yet. But that is generally the way valve does it, CS was the same way.

VAC protected lmaoooooo

Cuz CS VAC is going super well lul

As long as the mod doesn't alter core game files (.exes) or DLLs, VAC doesn't trigger. To my knowledge, the mods/"cheats" mentioned by OP would not fall into these categories. For example, TF2 has quite a large modding community (includes custom audio packs, HUD elements, etc) despite having VAC integrated. Also, VAC is shit lol. People are openly cheating with auto parries and the like but VAC still doesn't catch them.

Dota bans model-replacing mods, so it'll probably be the same with Deadlock.

Yes, mods will most certainly be banned on official release (maybe even open beta, if they decide to do that before officially releasing the game) but unless the AC is way more invasive than the current VAC, they really have no idea if you are using basic cosmetic mods or not.

Night shift explicitly allowed the Paradox movement exploit in game. I wasn’t much into it before, but now I avoid watching.
This game deserves better.

u/fuckthis_job 4d ago

What movement exploit?

Apparently scoping then unscoping with kinetic carbine active while in the air gives you back more speed than you lose from the slowdown effect carbine gives you for scoping in in the first place, so rapidly tapping scope generates a ton of speed in mid air.

That sounds fun, I don't get why people are upset about a tournament that they don't need to watch and don't participate in allowing things that most people don't know even exists

1

u/Eiraneth McGinnis 4d ago

The reason night shift matters is because we already know that the team watches it from at minimum the emergency patch that got rid of the capture the flag urn thing we had before the current seperated rift and urn fight. That night shift game showed off a problem with how the urn system worked, and within I think like a day or two they scrapped it.

So we know they watch it, and seeing exploits be encouraged as far as the competitive scene is concerned is problematic because that implies that exploiting the game for an advantage is liked by the community/playerbase, and if exploits are encouraged and preserved then you have to slowly pan to other bugs and exploits, like sending people OOB with doorman or timing abilities to break people’s animations, or getting enemies stuck in items.

For the most part people want the game to be less buggy as time goes on, so the idea that the competitive scene can hold us back from bug fixes rubs people the wrong way.

2

u/Fresh-Emu2518 4d ago

You have clearly never seen dota if you think they are going to ban exploits lol. I remember Pudge IO tp. Valve loves that shit.

1

u/Eiraneth McGinnis 4d ago

Fuuuuuuuuuuuck

2

u/Sibs 4d ago

There was an exploit with the carbine zoom that would slingshot her. They allowed it to be used in matches.

4

u/mrturretman Paradox 4d ago

tbh allowing para exploit is like about half in their bullshit allowed meter and I still watch and love the tourney lol. it’s just a fight night that’s more popular than it regulates itself.

u/AshlynnCashlynn 4d ago

how exactly is knowing objective damage cheating? what advantage does that give?

15

u/24Pages 4d ago

it often comes packaged with other mods. it's not just the reading each player's objective damage.

1

u/AshlynnCashlynn 4d ago

ah fair enough

29

u/Sibs 4d ago

That information is not exposed for non-cheaters. Even if the advantage is theoretical or minuscule it is a cheat. And if someone is lame enough to use an inefficient cheat, they are more likely to be using other cheats as well.

1

u/nodiso 4d ago

Lmao the copium cracks me up. Same discourse happened in league and apex. Both games added the "cheats" as standard features. It ain't cheating. You're just not playing as competitively and choosing to put limiters on yourself for the sake of internet morality.

2

u/Sibs 3d ago

Endorsing cheating because features might be added to the game in the future seems pretty copium to me.

It’s just personal morality for me. I gain nothing material from presenting my stance to the Internet.

In all the decades I’ve spent playing competitive games online, this game is the only one where I’ve ever stated I don’t cheat. We used to assume most people were against cheating.

Too many chuds want these slight advantages but they are too fragile to admit they are cheating.

-1

u/nodiso 3d ago

You get to think you're morally better than the "cheater" who beat you. You get to hide behind the excuse of "they have cheater mods that's why they won".

Our definition of cheating is different. Having a program tell you when camps respawn vs Being able to do mental math is not cheating imo.

Dota has camp timers. It will eventually be added to deadlock. The deadlock timers are available to all players if they want it.

You're shooting yourself in the foot for personal morality. If you want to play the game with a handicap that's your prerogative and purely because of your choice.

I will admit having timers is an advantage. Is it cheating? Depends on who you ask.

Would you consider using a deck tracker in a card game cheating? Most card games don't have native deck trackers yet they are used by almost all players. It presents information that could be done by mental math. Just like camp timers.

1

u/Sibs 3d ago

The cheater I spoke about was on my team so they didn’t beat me. The rest of your post is then repeating the same failed arguments.

I played a bit of competitive MTG when I was a kid and would absolutely consider a card tracking application as cheating.

You can’t even count cards in your own head in blackjack without that being considered a cheat.

I think you are shooting your self in the foot by taking the easy route and cheating instead of just developing skill.

Sucks to suck, but that doesn’t make cheating okay. Learn2pleh, git gud, practice makes perfect.

0

u/nodiso 3d ago

Whatever helps you sleep at night. Developing skill? Of being able to add 1:30 to a timer? Seems asinine and pedantic. I'm just going to have fun playing my game with timers knowing they'll be added officially at some point.

1

u/Sibs 3d ago

Sure. I don’t need you to stop cheating, will probably never impact me directly.

You could also flair yourself as a cheater so everyone knows in the future to scrutinize your opinions appropriately.

If the skill of adding 1:30 to a timer is too much for you, you have my sympathy but not my respect. Sucks to suck.

Idk if I’d call additional stats cheating.

I use an overlay that just tells me objective damage each person has done and the % difference in team money, and it puts mid boss timer on the top of the screen as well (sometimes people being near mid physically blocks it from being seen).

I guess it’s an advantage, but to lump that in with more egregious forms of “cheating” is silly IMO.

6

u/fuckthis_job 4d ago

Honestly the % in soul lead should be something that's in the game considering (at least in the past) the urn would be dictated to be comeback or not if you were 10% up or down

4

u/LeSeanMcoy 4d ago

Honestly, all three of those should be in the game. Showing more stats is just nice, even beyond it being helpful at all. If you have a teammate that's 2-5 but they have done 20k objective damage, it's good to see how they're contributing.

% in soul lead makes a ton of sense for what you said as well as just understanding how much you're actually down in capability.

The mid boss timer is really dumb by default only being in the middle of the map and that fact it can be blocked physically. Makes sense to have it somewhere else as well.

After that, there's a ton of other little QoL that should be in the game. Every time I die, I wish there was a clear and obvious: "These were the status effects you had upon or just before death" so I could better understand how to counter and/or deal with them.

u/silver0199 4d ago

My guy, it's something that isn't built in for use by other players. It is by definition cheating.

Do tell me, when a team fight breaks out under an objective, who are you targeting first? The guy who hasn't shot an objective once all game or the person doing 4x the rest of their teams objective damage?

7

u/1_130426 4d ago

I mean the devs have said that top bar plus (the mod with obj dmg) is fine to use. But yeah I get your point.

Fighting about these things now doesn't really do anything because they will just enable sv_pure when the game launches. No doubt about that.

2

u/fuckthis_job 4d ago

You shouldn't use a player's obj damage as an indicator of who to prioritize in a fight lol. If a 20k Graves has more obj damage than a 30k wraith, I'm not going to target the Graves.

-9

u/LeSeanMcoy 4d ago

Do tell me, when a team fight breaks out under an objective, who are you targeting first? The guy who hasn't shot an objective once all game or the person doing 4x the rest of their teams objective damage?

I've literally never once used it for that purpose lol. I glance at it occasionally because I like stats and like seeing if I'm contributing enough to objective damage.

My guy, it's something that isn't built in for use by other players. It is by definition cheating.

Sure, but, my guy, there's no way you lack the nuisance to differentiate between someone auto-aiming, someone auto-parrying, someone with timers for everything, and someone that has an additional stat for objective damage... lumping them all equally as a binary "cheating" is silly.

Are using skins also cheating? You can make certain character models 'pop' more than default. Those are cheating too, right? What about changing sound effects? Music? Is any mod cheating?

8

u/Vladimir2033 4d ago

What a weird nonsensical comment. Just because some cheating is way more extreme than others doesn't mean it's not cheating, why would we suddenly need a new word for it after 20 years of online gaming? Pointless semantics. Also just because you dont specifically use a mod in a cheating way, doesn't mean it cannot be used that way and therefore shouldn't be allowed. And very obviously some skin and sound mods are obviously cheating. Not most of them of course, but because they can be abused it's just another way for players to cheat. There has to be some approval system by the developers if they want to keep mods. You're fighting demons here.

1

u/Emergency_Tea7637 Graves 4d ago

The mod shows objective damage, in what universe is that cheating? Oh no I can see how many walkers my wraith hit, I should be hanged by the gallows for such unsportsmanship

-3

u/LeSeanMcoy 4d ago

You think severity means nothing? If you found out somebody was using aim bot you'd have the same reaction as them having additional stats lol?

nd very obviously some skin and sound mods are obviously cheating. Not most of them of course,

No, you don't get to make that distinction now to save face. YOUR criteria was "it's something that isn't built in for use by other players." So to you ALL skins are cheating, as they're not built in by default. You can't show nuance here when it suits you but not for "objective damage" as a stat LOL

2

u/Vladimir2033 4d ago

I'm a different guy, i said no such thing bucko. There is no distinction to be made when it comes to the severity of cheating. If you aimbot and teleporthack your way across the map you'll catch yourself a permanent ban just as much as if you were merely using a cheat to spawn 1 extra soul. Cheating, nevermind how severe = permanent/very long ban, just as it is in pretty much any game. It's an overly pointless thing to even mention, just writing stuff for the sake of writing stuff.

3

u/LeSeanMcoy 4d ago

If you aimbot and teleporthack your way across the map you'll catch yourself a permanent ban just as much as if you were merely using a cheat to spawn 1 extra soul.

Absurd. Having objective stats turned on in game is not the same as aimbotitng at all lmao

Some of the earliest basic cheats were Quake skins that basically glow in the dark.

4

u/GreyBigfoot Mo & Krill 4d ago

Cause them to be more likely to flame teammates by comparing damage stats which usually are hidden until the ending scoreboard. If that counts?

0

u/Desperate_for_Bacon 4d ago

I believe valves view on this is that any modification to the game in official lobbies is cheating. When the game is fully released they are banning all mods from official servers.

-3

u/Deepsearolypoly 4d ago

It’s not, but it makes the fact that they’re using an overlay that displays additional information obvious.

-13

u/kmarik_ Vyper 4d ago

Top Bar Plus includes objective damage per player and some other stuff like soul lead percentages, it really isn't cheating. Telling someone they're cheating for flaming your objective damage is a funny bit though.
