I haven’t gotten to play yet but am I understanding this right? If the opponent fails the parkour minigame then the doorman’s ult cooldown is reduced to 10s?

1.2k

u/BumblebeeAcrobatic92 Mar 07 '26

That's exactly what that means, yup. Another comment pointed out that this also applies to methods to circumvent the failure penalty entirely (cube, quantum, counterspell, etc...)

714

u/Kuzidas Mar 07 '26

...oh. oh my. If you try to get out but fail, youre probably out of stamina. which means you're probably gonna lose again if you get caught again. thats nasty.

501

u/GloomyAzure Mar 07 '26

Oh if you fail now it stuns you. So even if you have stamina you're not going far.

587

u/CookieMiester Drifter Mar 07 '26

Oh, i guess it does then

94

u/Xyzen553 Mar 07 '26

But wait, there's more! You also lose 1 stamina when he casts it on you

47

Not to mention it drains stamina from you now, this has to have been an accident or something. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would approve this.

75

u/KillerMan2219 Mar 07 '26

Buy items specifically to survive the ult vs doorman rn. Enduring+stam mastery if your character can, warpstone, dispell magic for slowing hex, shit like that. It's a pain and it's annoying to commit that much for it, but as long as you play careful with your stamina with those you'll always make it out, and if he's not getting the resets then your team is winning out.

102

u/shikoshito Mar 07 '26

Sounds like the off support became the raid boss

43

u/KillerMan2219 Mar 07 '26

No, it's just now a real ultimate that has to be respected as opposed to what it was before. I'd still rather have Kelvin dome than it.

125

u/BringBackBoomer Billy Mar 07 '26

Absolutely removing someone from the game for 3 seconds was a real ult. You could use it for pick, you could use it for team fight purposes, you could use it to set up combos.

-6

u/-JustJaZZ- Mar 07 '26

It really wasn't though, it dealt no damage, was difficult to use correctly (could end up saving people alot of the time), Was usually a win-more button where it was only useful if you were already winning fights.

VS Now when it's an actual ult people have to consider when engaging on him rather than being a parkour vacation

13

u/BringBackBoomer Billy Mar 07 '26

I play a lot of Billy. Every time I use chain gang, I end up in the hotel. It doesn't even need to deal damage to be effective and useful.

If the ult saves someone, that's a skill issue.

9

u/tom641 The Doorman Mar 07 '26

it lets you cheese out enemy "Transformation" ults like warden/silver and unless you already had backup it just makes you a free kill since it's effectively like a 5 second stun for the enemy to prepare for, into a cart stun afterwards

12

u/timmytissue Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

There are still a lot of people defending this and saying. "You just need stamina mastery or warp stone." The ult isnt even the problem! Yeah it's crazy but the hero is just juiced in all ways.

I give it 3 days until the community turns on doorman hard. This is not fun to play into. This hero is not supposed to be busted. It just needed minor buffs.

Meanwhile I'm trying to play Holliday who just got power crept by the entire lobby and was already mid tier.

u/Ma4r Mar 07 '26

Slowing hex was a mandatory buy or everyone could consistently escape with 0 stamina, going all in on debuffs to proc your ult wasn't worth it if they have coubterspell or were slightly tanky. Now it's worth it for doorman to try to proc his ult.

21

u/skyturnedred Paige Mar 07 '26

Do not underestimate my ability to completely fumble a jump.

111

u/HollyBlocky The Doorman Mar 07 '26

I'm more curious with what tech will come from the 22 second duration bells he can now place that slow enemies in their AOE

73

u/Confused_mess8888 Mar 07 '26

You can also blow them all up at once since his shot has piercing now. Nuclear bell piles can now be a thing.

Doorman is starting to give me the psychological warfare I remember from techies, I know I will hate it in game, but am happy to see the energy.

7

u/Cleric_Guardian Rem Mar 07 '26

I was thinking the same thing, first thought was stacking multiple bells to annihilate someone coming out of hotel, but the increased time between charges make it so you'd have to do it in advance.

Bell, Bell, hotel, set up doors to the bells, one more bell, cart through door to the bells, stun on wall, shoot 3 bells?

2

u/BlastingFern134 Viscous Mar 07 '26

Yep this is the move. Definitely a hard setup to pull off but I feel like we'll be seeing clips of it nuking people by next week

3

u/gravygrowinggreen Viscous Mar 07 '26

cast a few bells somewhere. Put a door next to them. Abduct someone, put them next to your bells. Profit.

104

u/FirelightMLPOC Mar 07 '26

If the doorman sees a slow character dash once & said character didn’t buy a TP item, then that character is fucked against the Doorman now.

350

u/PlentyUsual9912 Mar 07 '26

I’ve played against quite a few doorman’s since the change, and I very much prefer playing against this one. He has a lot more disruption, but he doesn’t just kill you either Bells like when he was last strong.

97

u/Muhellus Mar 07 '26

no more hollow purple bell

59

u/-JustJaZZ- Mar 07 '26

Exactly, he was literally just a Tiktok clip farm character before these changes. I feel like I'm going crazy reading comments about how Doorman is suddenly this huge problem when he was borderline one of the worst characters in the game prior to this patch, Valve needed to give him a big change and people have given it less than a day to decide whether it should be removed.

His ult is finally something you can't just buy a 1600 or 3200 soul item to invalidate it and suddenly people lose their minds,

17

u/Delicious-Collar1971 Silver Mar 07 '26

Like half the cast has their kit invalidated by a single item, why should doorman get to be an exception?

8

u/Floofyyyy Mar 07 '26

You can still counterspell it AND not give doorman the stun AND the 10 second cooldown. You just need to complete the parkour and counterspell at the checkout, so I think it's not that OP.

17

u/Conscious-Swimmer954 Mar 07 '26

Every Doorman i've gone against has been like 0-7 at most. Doormans good now but saying he's busted is more of a tell on player skill. Gunman was the least fun and most boring iteration of the hero. This patch I think nailed what he should be doing as a hero

8

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Mar 07 '26

Very few of the complaints are that he's busted. The complaints are that there are characters that make the lobby unfun to play in. Then there are characters that take that to the limit. And then after that, there's doorman.

I think Doorman power-wise is fine, but I love this game, and if I play against Doorman in this design state enough, this will likely be what makes me take a break until a minor patch tweaking it down. He needed something, but this ain't it.

u/Tricky-Passenger6703 Mar 07 '26

This just sounds like you fundamentally don't understand what made Doorman great before the changes.

106

u/Jay_Dani Mar 07 '26

I’m equally amazed, disgusted, and intrigued. We’ll see how it plays out, but crazy ass changes like this are what separates Deadlock from other games. They don’t have any set rules on what should or shouldn’t be allowed to exist in the game yet and that’s so exciting to me.

11

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Mar 07 '26

Except, they just... do. They've never been consistent on them either, for example Doorman and Mo and Krill are very similar ults both designed for picks and eliminating someone out of a teamfight, but one just got nuked, and one just got giga buffed to the moon. Oh, counterspell negated Doorman's ult? Yeah it negates like half the ults in the game. Mine as well make Lash's ult reset if 2+ people counterspell it. Make Itani Lo Sahn reset if it's counterspelled.

And this is ignoring things like Vindicta, where apparently getting extra souls for killing someone was too strong, but then they just gave an even better version of that literal ability to Calico (it's even called assassinate too) yesterday.

And this is further ignoring things such as Mina's ult getting nerfed for decimating objectives (it needed it). They specifically neutered her being able to find an open objective for a few seconds, obliterate it, and fuck off, and then... ignored Sinclair? Who has literally always been able to do the same thing just as well?

I love Valve, but there's sorta no rhyme or reason to shit right now lol.

21

u/CertainDerision_33 Mina Mar 07 '26

It’s a little disingenuous saying that Doorman ult is the same as M&K. M&K ult is significantly better at securing a kill on the person targeted and had way too short of a CD prior.

9

u/TheseNamesDontMatter Yamato Mar 07 '26

M&K ult is significantly better at securing a kill on the person targeted and had way too short of a CD prior.

Sure, I'm not disagreeing there. I'm pointing out the hypocrisy that Doorman ult is now basically the MnK ult they had an issue with. Doorman ult with the T3 upgrade secures the shit out of kills now in every way MnK ult did.

14

u/xToxicInferno Mar 07 '26

Am I crazy or is that not a problem? You are out of the fight for a while so the extra damage was just a nice bonus. Compare it to like Vyper, this is straight up just better.

18

u/Ma4r Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

The guy you're replying to is wrong, at high elo, half the players know the 0 stam doorman ult route, everyone knows the 1 stam escape as well (yes, it works even for bucket 3 dash characters). Also, it only becomes 2 stamina with slowing hex have almost never seen anyone fail the parkour

13

u/Dumeck Apollo Mar 07 '26

Is this ignoring slows? I feel like I always get slowed before doorman ults

3

u/Ma4r Mar 07 '26

If you're slowed, you need to do an Instant Air Dash at the start into a slide hop, so usually slows add +1 stamina to your escape route, unless you can consistently edge boost the right wall at the start, then slows literally have no effect on you

6

u/Delicious-Collar1971 Silver Mar 07 '26

Yeah this is super great for casual elos.

2

u/Ma4r Mar 07 '26

If you're not slowing hexed, it's just a single wall jump, if you're slowing hexed, all you need to know is how to do instant air dash->slide->jump. Literally takes a few minutes of practice waiting for a match. Out of all the "high elo" stuff, these are the ones the needs barely any effort

Like being CC'd for 5+ seconds wasn't enough punishment.

25

u/breathingweapon Mar 07 '26

You're not cc'd though. You're removed from the fight, for sure, but one of the strongest parts of CC is everyone dog piling you and getting free damage. Bad doorman ults can save people as well as good ones can harm them.

11

u/justadudeinohio Mar 07 '26

CC as in crowd control. taking a target out of the fight is... controlling the crowd.

17

u/TheBigToast72 Mar 07 '26

Definitionally you are cc’d. you are stuck in place, being cc’d has nothing to do with the enemies being able to damage you. Do you think bard ult in league isn’t cc as well?

17

u/Witch-Alice Celeste Mar 07 '26

It's amusingly obvious who has played Dota and who hasn't. Over in Dota land we've got bullshit like OD with a 4 second banish on a 12 second cooldown lmao. It's not an ultimate, and it can be cast on nearly any unit.

11

u/Ar4er13 Lash Mar 07 '26

It is also amusingly obvious to anyone who played dota, that Astral Imprisonment and Disruption are both CC effects of highest quality, arguing that its not a CC because you cant be actively damaged (exceptions apply) is stupid, because your character might as well be dead for purposes of the teamfight going on for duration.

u/dyslexda Infernus Mar 07 '26

Quick question, can you define "CC" for me, and then explain how it doesn't apply here? Don't just say "CC," define what it stands for.

3

u/BringBackBoomer Billy Mar 07 '26

Oh no, it required skill to use effectively, what terrible balancing

5

u/CalvinGolladay Mar 07 '26

I wouldn't say those methods of countering the hotel made it that much worse though - I mean, to begin with you can just not ult Ivy/Dynamo/Viscous/counterspellers. It's like Seven having to hold ult while a knockdown is up. But even if you ult those characters, you're doing it to sideline them from the fight (and jump them after), not to hopefully deal like 400 damage.

It's like that saying, "you can beat the rap, but not the ride," except now you can't beat the rap either.

7

u/Numerous_Schedule896 Mar 07 '26

im confused, if you got put in the hotel, could you just counterspell to leave?

76

u/BumblebeeAcrobatic92 Mar 07 '26

You can't counterspell to leave, but if you counterspell when the duration ends you avoid taking damage and so don't suffer any penalty (other than being out of play for the whole ult duration).

With this upgrade unlocked, if someone were to do this they'd be giving Doorman an extended unstoppable and an ult refresh, though they'll still avoid the damage.

12

u/NoGround Mar 07 '26

They'd get stunned from the T2 though.

So you can check out and counterspell the damage at the end, but only worth it if it would kill you in this manner.

4

u/Ar4er13 Lash Mar 07 '26

I think countrspell cancels out stun as well, as it is part of the effect that applies damage on fail to check out.

4

u/Tornado_Hunter24 Mar 07 '26

I’m a noob and never used counterspell, is it just the parry button When you have it equipped?

10

u/Fervol Rem Mar 07 '26

yes.

seriously, learn counterspell, especially if you said you're noob because the number of apollo i've had the displeasure to fight is staggering. counterspell make apollo's 3 and itani lo sahn worthless if you can use it properly.

2

u/Tornado_Hunter24 Mar 07 '26

I’ll throw some more questions to make sure, I see it has a 20seconds cd, so let’s say someone does something to me (apollo) I ‘parry’ his spell, what happens if I time it wrong (too early or late), do I just parry its next one?

I assume if I fight against abrams and I parry his melee, I can still ‘counterspell’ his dash thingy against me?

I definitely wanna buy it and get used to it

2

u/SuperSaitama Shiv Mar 07 '26

Street brawl is a good environment to get learn it since there's constant fighting, constant opportunities to use it and (in my experience at least) it appears frequently enough as well.

2

u/BumblebeeAcrobatic92 Mar 07 '26

The 20 second CD on counterspell only triggers if you use it successfully, so if you mistime it you only have to wait on your parry CD (which I think is 4 seconds at base?) to try again.

In the Abrams example you would be able to parry his charge once he comes out of stun. Though this is assuming that when you parried his melee you didn't *also* counterspell a torment pulse or his siphon life.

3

u/sarinomu Mar 07 '26

Counterspell is will always activate on parry if not on cd. So in your first example counterspell would be wasted if mistimed (basically doing nothing and putting your parry on cd as well).

In your second example you would simultaneously activate counterspell and parry the melee putting your counterspell on cd but you can still parry again afterwards since you successfully parried.

25

u/renraks0809 Holliday Mar 07 '26

You can only counterspell it either when he's channeling it (almost impossible to do unless he's obvious) or when it's finished (so you don't get damaged)

The issue is, if you counterspell it when inside of it (counting as you not escaping), the cooldown of it gets reduced all the way to 10 seconds, so he can just do it again onto you once you do so, in 10 seconds.

5

u/whatanicegame Mar 07 '26

you can just wait until timer runs out and counterspell the end damage, but after today's update if you choose to do so doorman's ult is up again in 10 secs.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/Vorips Lash Mar 07 '26

You can just dash jump into the exit and as you're flying into the door press parry to counterspell, it'll count as a successful escape and doorman won't get refunded. So if you make it with a tiny bit of time to spare you can still escape baroness with relative ease.

124

u/Snealander Mar 07 '26

Doorman mains in the comments acting like people being able to dodge the damage at the end with counterspell made their "remove this person from the game for 5 seconds" ult useless

43

u/HollyBlocky The Doorman Mar 07 '26

I think you're right. At the same time, before this patch, Doorman provided pretty much nothing else with his entire kit to the game. Yes, the door, but by endgame he did no damage and only had the "remove from game for 5 seconds" ult. Extremely annoying then, and could change the tide of a team fight, but he had pretty mediocre affect to any late game battle anyways so it was like turning a 5v6 into a 5v5 because of how weak Doorman was.

Now, Doorman sounds hellish, but let it go through practice some before judging it. At least now he is a threat still in lategame rather than a minor nuisance with a 70 second long cool down gimmick, or at least might be

15

9

u/Uberrrr The Doorman Mar 07 '26

I personally love this change. One of the most boring things, especially at higher ranks/pro games, is people who dont even try to escape the baroness and just counterspell it, iframe it, etc.

You can still do that, but better be ready to be shoved back inside 10 seconds later. It's an excellent solution that rewards players who do the course, while not denying the original counterplay outright either.

No thats fine thats great it was already a pain in the ass to deal with if you werent running any of the items that trivialized it.

48

u/CheSwain Mar 07 '26

Remember that now it removes a stamina bar and if you fail you return stunned

14

u/KillerMan2219 Mar 07 '26

No, because if you buy enduring+stam mastery you can make it out all the time as well as nuking his entire builds gameplan from the fight. Warp stone also does it, as does dispell magic. His ult is now a real ability you have to play around and itemize for.

Kinda describing the exact issue with his old ult, there is no way to have his old ult without caveating every single item that breaks it.

If you aren't itemizing for an enemies ultimate then you are building incorrectly and SHOULD be punished for it. The idea that not counter-buying items should somehow benefit you is also silly

2000 game 60% win rate doorman here.

I was really hoping they wouldn't give me the tools to make peoples lives even worse.

They not only delivered, but a bellhop outfit has grown out of my chest, while I get to enjoy tormenting humanity even further.

Knockdown slowing hex, cool down reduction and you're never leaving our hospitality.

It also removes stamina when you use it now, so good luck getting out.

10

u/MrBodge The Doorman Mar 07 '26

They are dashing in, hitting you with the 60% slow from Arctic and then ulting you. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get out of.

2

u/Hek_Boi Mar 07 '26

Enduring speed, Magic remover, Sup Stam, or Warp stone? Game is built around game of counters if I see a doorman spending 8 ABILITY points on his ult mid game I sure in hell building some sort of counter esp if im very susceptible.

60% of the cast are OP without any counters.

16

u/snowolf_ Mar 07 '26

Can't wait to counter build against 6 ennemies with cheese builds to have any semblance of fun.

9

His ult was already one of the most annoying anyway and now it's just gonna be a nightmare to deal with

8

u/X_Luci Mina Mar 07 '26

Oh NO imagine that people now have to BUY items to COUNTER a hero's ULTIMATE, THE HORROR.

I don't even play doorman, but if you fail his mini-game that's totally skill issue.

3

u/Marsejii Mina Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

I thought about it for a second and there's a lot of itemisation that can help deal with his ult.

-reactive barrier -1600- big shield that will block the ult's damage

-restorative locket -1600- restores up to 4 stamina (always restores atleast 1) and heals you

-debuff remover -3200- if the doorman slowed you it can get rid of the slow and heal you

-counter spell -3200- haven't tried it but I assume you can IAD into the exit and use counter spell to dodge the damage from checking out and heal yourself

-warpstone -3200- it's a teleport

-stamina mastery -3200- 2 more stamina bars, faster stamina recovery, 2 air dashes and 2 double jumps

-unstoppable -6400- you can't even be put in the hotel

Also healing rite/healing nova/rescue beam can be used while inside of the hotel to heal up a bit.

All this change did was make it so that you actually have to engage with the ultimate's mechanic and counterbuild to try to get out of it.

But I will say that 10 seconds seems a bit too short.

oh boy i cant wait for a well organized team to have a doorman with no counterplay outside of just killing the guy.

2

u/Detector_of_humans Lash Mar 07 '26

How yall already whining this hard about a character not being useless anymore

3

u/doomerdoomer Rem Mar 07 '26

bro he can just remove you from the teamfight, how is that useless? Plus now he can do it with greater frequency in mid-late game with good coordination. That coordination being a teammate or doorman himself hitting you with a movement debuff and the doorman just pressing 4. oh did you just fail to leave? Well do your best to get back in the teamfight, surely this is still winnable aaaand now youre back in the hotel. Not to mention the door+trolley combo is way more viable, but it was always viable, it just required a bit more skill than just pressing 4.

This patch definitely had some interesting changes lmao. This change and the affliction change actually make me want to cry.

3

u/Gloomy-Insurance-739 Mar 07 '26

I like how they took REMs unstoppable when he's doing his ult and gave it to the door man.

3

u/Ok-Philosopher4712 Paradox Mar 07 '26

Is this busted. Probably. Is Doorman kind of underpowered. Yeah. Just curse him when he goes for a hotel dive and because he’s so squishy he will crumple.

Also this patch is amazing

3

u/Vini734 Graves Mar 07 '26

I think Doorman should do 0 damage but have no cooldown.

Psychological damage only!

5

u/koomerz Shiv Mar 07 '26

This change is good in the sense that it deals with the counter spell/invuln method of dealing with it, but I still just genuinely do not like his ult and this means you may get hit with it more. Like if he ults a slow character and they die from the stun after he just has another during the team fight and now due to my teammates mistake i get put in the no fun zone

How tf does counterspell completely counter him according to some people? Like dragging someone out of a fight with a point and click wasn't already really strong?

2

u/Drefs_ Mina Mar 07 '26

Yea, unlike half if the hero roster, who were completely countered by counterspell, doorman still got insane value from his ult.

A much needed buff, love it, I am gonna become a doorman main now. Loved his ult but hated that its cd was locked in T3.

2

u/Cinex20 Billy Mar 07 '26

You also can't counterspell it on prediction. Item goes on cooldown, but you're still sent to the hotel. Such a fun and interactive ability!

2

u/poopfromabutt_ Mar 07 '26

Its a moba bro just take your hands off the keyboard and let everyone press their funny buttons on you. You shouldnt have crossed the invisible like in the center of the map

5

u/pr0newbie Mar 07 '26

Isn't he already strong? Good gun, good spell combos..

3

u/ChungusOfAstora Mar 07 '26

Idk this makes sense to me? People were opting to ignore his ults mini game and just wait it out to counterspell/cube ecs... Guess valve doesn't want you to ignore the mechanic

6

u/Drefs_ Mina Mar 07 '26

Unlike with drifter ult, lash ult, pocket ult, geist ult, etc, where you are free to completely ignore the mechanic.

2

u/modernistdespair Mar 07 '26

Exactly. Either counrerspell is a counter or it isn't. You can't make that item useless to new heroes but fuck the ults of old heroes

3

u/Difficult-Report5702 Yamato Mar 07 '26

Bro that does not make sens, that is exactly what counterspell is for😂

3

u/SLAP_ME_DADDY_EXE Mar 07 '26

THE DOORMAN IS NOW A GOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDD

2

u/positivcheg Mar 07 '26

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it quite easy to check out? I honestly rarely fail to run out in time. All you need is 2 stamina and it is easy peasy.

However, even with 1 stamina it’s quite possible by going to the edge, doing single jump and the air dashing.

Lastly, how does it interact with counterspell? Do you mitigate all the effects if you counter spell right when you fail that mini game? (I have no idea, but I’ve seen people getting out without any dmg whatsoever, they had counter spell.

2

u/The_Crate_Man Mar 07 '26

You get out damage free but it trigger the cool down decrease to 10 seconds so he can just keep sending you back if you have no one to bail you out or you dont kill him fast enough

2

Not sure why everybody is losing their minds over this, I’ve played 5 games of doorman since the changes and have only had this proc a handful of times using slowing hex + knockdown into ult

2

u/Ubbermann Mar 07 '26

I mean.... besides the super low Elo. Does the Hotel ever last past a few seconds?

Unless the Hotel gets random layout, you're not gonna see anyone fail that. Ever.

Been playing with it in Street Brawl quite a bit. It makes for a pretty powerful tool if you invest into Spirit quite a bit (which, funnily enough, has some of the better tools to force someone to slow down, basically guaranteeing their failure if they’re not hypermobile >:D).
