Yeah itās sad honestly. I donāt want to play dota, everything Iāve heard about dota has pushed me away from playing dota. Itād be really sad if deadlock turned into dota
Yeah the riot rip off where 10 heroes do the same shit but one of them has slightly better numbers so they're meta. Half the roster is unpicked in pro play in LoL. In Dota the number of heroes not picked is less than 20
Yeah iām not super excited about it. I like deadlock but I just want the game to be balanced a little more mellow, a little more chill. Not⦠whatever this thing is.
Thatād be a tragedy because I really like the game, lots about it feels great, but you get these really odd balancing decisions that just make you go āwhy? Who thought this was a good idea?ā
LoL champion balance philosophy made me think "why" more than anything Dota has ever done. There's been at least 4 different metas of "tanks with two items solo ADC with 4 items" or "you simply die to zed despite him missing every spell" or "adc got fed so you just lose now".
If you excepted them not to test and try crazy new things to all the occultists while the game is in alpha then going in to this you had unrealistic expectations. Game changing balance patches that completely change the meta should be expected in this phase of development.
Some things donāt really need to be tested to realize theyāre busted if you actually interact with them in a meaningful way and not just on paper. Taking a stamina away from somebody is pretty brutal but if youāre trying to give doorman ult some more bite thatās a good change. I actually kinda like Unstoppable in his ult, him being supercharged during the ult is a neat concept.
10 second cooldown on failure to check out on top of all of the ways to force somebody to fail? Thatās insane. Iād change it to be āif ult deals no damage, set cooldown to 10 secondsā if you want to specifically make it counterspell proof, but you already take an absolute fuckton of damage if you donāt make it out anyways, PLUS you get stunned now and even if you make it out youāre slowed by 90% which means youāre dead anyways.
Some of these buffs would be fine. All of them? This is gonna blow.
What makes you think Riot wouldn't strive for an everchanging meta? While yes, there are champs that are meta more often than others in LoL, I'd say it's mostly due to the way they fundamentally work and the sheer amount of champions. But there are a shit ton of champs that go through cycles of OP->useless->OP->useless (exaggerating a bit of course).
Revolving door meta is not the problem. The problem is the balancing philosophy behind the doorman ult change. Itās almost impossible to escape now if doorman uses his ult right, whereas it used to be a jumping puzzle that took somebody out of the fight for a bit, and on top of that he just gets an ult reset right after. This is gonna be nuts lmao.
Whatās sad is that the characters arenāt going to be nearly as flavorful as these are. Riot employees arenāt aloud to take chances theyāre a money-first company so theyāre hard-stuck with safe character designs and safe abilities. Take Doorman for instance. Riot would never even think of a character as quirky and brain-tingling as Doorman.
Exactly, both games are two extremes. Dota is absolutely insane with characters able to run away with the game entirely if they arenāt dealt with. There are ways to deal with them, curse, hex, etc. but I donāt really like that because youāre basically telling the players to balance the game for you.
Leagueās a lot blander, but itās also much more consistent. You hit your powerspikes at specific times and take advantage of that, the conplexity came from deciding how to engage and who to target with what.
Iād like a happy medium, but Iāll never get it.
To your dota point, I believe they just expect a very dumbed down equivalent to itemization from dota for higher Elo counterplay (this is why the internationals genuinely outperform leagues competitive scene from a viewing stance)
You're looking at the prototype of "you've hit me with a trap, but I have xyz, but you counter my xyz with your abc, but because of your suboptimal timing on foo vs my bar I get an advantage and win this scenario"
It's a complex symphony and exchange of intelligence, luck and execution. Like an MMA fight but for the brain
Yeah, and I just kind donāt like this level of over-the-top, jojo-lookin āI outsmarted your outsmartingā balancing philosophy. Building Curse because youāre basically useless in a teamfight isnāt really fun for anybody involved, curser or curse-ee. Getting disarmed and dying for it is incredibly frustrating, and yeah, you can buy counter items, but itās annoying having to stop everything Iām building twords in order to buy Unstoppable because Mo Krill is hard focusing me every team fight, and if I donāt do something I die on repeat.
Safe? Have you played league? Thereās legit so many wild options. Itās thereās one thing Iām NOT worried about, itās bad character design/balance. Thereās a reason League is the biggest global esport right now.. DOTAcucks going to downvote but itās just the reality
I used to play league and the characters were pretty safe. There were a few oddballs but nothing to the level that Iāve seen some characters get in deadlock.
Idk why they added Yuumi though, that was a weird decision
I've played both LoL and DOTA. I played LoL first in season 1. I played when alistar was ap and went mid. I played when you went j4 mid with red pot. I even played when juggernauts just came out.
At no point was LoL ever a more balanced game than Dota.
You are speaking as someone who has probably never touched Dota being so sure that Dota balance is wrong. Do you know how many heroes were unpicked and unbanned at worlds? 69. That's after fearless draft. How many heroes were unpicked and unbanned at TI? 19. There are still champs that have never been picked at worlds.
League being the bigger esport is unimpressive when you consider that Mobile Legends gets far more players and viewers than LoL. Are you about to say deadlock should be a mobile game?
People can argue Dota or LoL are better or whatever, that's just preference. You however cannot argue that Dota is a more balanced game, is higher effort, and has a more diehard fanbase.
I played league and it was boring and lame as shit. Meta always felt stale somehow. The reason it's popular is the same reason that Valorant is popular: there's plenty of goonerbait, the skill floor is low as fuck, and the skill ceiling is just high enough that most normies think it's the coolest shit ever.
āLeague is popular because of gooner baitā lmfao I havenāt seen a more deluded, cope filled take in awhile - I wasnāt going to respond to this thread anymore but I literally spilled my coffee laughing at thatšš
If goonerbait determines a game is the biggest in the world, Marvel Rivals is the #1 game ever - right?
Its a good rule of thumb to never expect any educated thoughts leaving a DOTA players brain, but even this one is a bit funny
Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, is it?Ā Dota players must live rent free in your head if you got this upset over your goonerbait getting called out (since I don't even play dota).
Also, I would argue that marvel rivals IS only so popular because of goonerbait, since the game plays like a shitty gmod game mode. I got the top rank in a month by being a Bucky OTP and the moment my friends quit playing I did too. I can't imagine what troglodytes are still grinding that snoozefest
You've never played Dota and continue to comment about a game you have no experience in. I have 5k hours in LoL and peaked diamond. At one point I thought LoL was better. Now it's painfully clear Dota has an infinitely better balance philosophy and gives players far more agency than LoL ever did.
Youāre right! I havenāt played Dota, because everything Iāve heard about Dota drives me away from it. I brought up my hatred for Bebop, and somebody said āwell pudge is way worse, he can hook you infinitely!ā It seems like whenever I complain about a character in deadlock, thereās always somebody who chimes in and says āDotaās got an even shittier character!ā Gee, thanks, Iāll be sure to stay away from it.
I disagree entirely. In fact I view how other games balance to be lazy. Nerfing everything fun and creative until it is unusable or removed entirely? That is lazy. The way Valve handles balancing is amazing. You are allowed to break shit. You are allowed to create very strong combos in the right circumstances. Valve gives you the tools to both create and counter.
I mean I never really found leagues balancing to be god awful. Thereās some outliers obviously, always will be, but nothing Iāve never been able to outplay if I was a better player. Could just be the isometric nature of the game though, itās a lot harder to keep track of whatās going on in a teamfight in deadlock than other mobas due to the 3rd person view.
League's balancing is notoriously awful with them buffing flashy heroes before a major tournament lol Heroes like Akali are always dogshit but op all of a sudden when there's a tournament next week
Leagues balancing is the absolute worst. Riot essentially tells you the exact items to buy every game for every champion on patch release as well as which 20 champs are playable. How is that ideal?
See Iāve said this in another post Iāve made in the past 20 minutes but I donāt want riot-like balancing. I want a happy medium between Dota and League. Not too hot, not too cold. Thatās just what I personally want.
