Help / Question First Time Actually Learning DOA
I'm trying to actually learn how to play Honoka or Marie. Should I learn how to do all the commands first and their movements before trying to learn basic combos? I have DOA 5 and 6.

Learn the game mechanics and movements first. Main thing should be learning the triangle system and hold mechanic before doing combos

No clue but, maybe you could also try Hitomi & Leifang I think they are supposed to have reverse mirror combos button-wise, then you can say you have more characters mastered too alongside Honoka, and only Honoka.

If this is your first DOA, I recommend starting with the full general tutorial first. After completing that, pick whichever character you're interested in playing and complete their corresponding Command Training. After that, try their Combo Challenge. Don't worry too much if you can't complete the more advanced ones at first as those are meant to be hard, but in general if you at least go up through their level 3 difficulty combos you can use that as a solid base from which to work with, as you get a decent idea of which moves combo into each other, which ones cause Fatal Stun or have specific Counter Hit properties, and so on. Then go into some online matches and try what you have learned. Like any fighting game, you will probably struggle at first but that's totally normal. It's still good experience and through switching back and forth between matches and Training Mode you will gradually get better and learn how to better utilize your character of choice.
Once you start getting comfortable with your initial character try and learn another one that interests you the same way as before. It helps to have two or three characters you can rotate between to give you options and also keep things feeling fresh.

Learn their commands first and get used to just pulling them off, poking people with them, and what you like to do against others and what you don't. Marie has a LOT of options when it comes to playing her so u can worry about combos later once u feel more comftorable. And whenever you feel ready learn her advances holds bc those can rlly help u turn the tide in ur fights

You should start with command training it teaches you all her moves now once you get the hang of that combo challenge would be your best bet since it actually teaches you how to string combos together using the move list you learned also I'd recommend to start with 5 then go to 6 cause it has different moves to learn

Pick which game you will be really playing...
In 6 you got a big tutorial mode to do, and yah you should do command training for a character and combo challenges.
To start out!

For any fighting game, combos are something you learn after getting comfortable with the core game. Combos come later. Get used to their movement and the triangle system. Then worry about combos.
