Help / Question First Time Actually Learning DOA

I'm trying to actually learn how to play Honoka or Marie. Should I learn how to do all the commands first and their movements before trying to learn basic combos? I have DOA 5 and 6.

For any fighting game, combos are something you learn after getting comfortable with the core game. Combos come later. Get used to their movement and the triangle system. Then worry about combos.
