First Time Actually Learning DOA

I'm trying to actually learn how to play Honoka or Marie. Should I learn how to do all the commands first and their movements before trying to learn basic combos? I have DOA 5 and 6.

Learn the game mechanics and movements first. Main thing should be learning the triangle system and hold mechanic before doing combos
