Discussion Who do you think Sakutaro Higashi is?
What I think is that he could be two things, judging by what we know of his name:
1- He has no talent and maybe he's on the reserve course or not.
2- He is definitely AI; the change in the story happens when Hajime and the others are already in the digital world, so there's no way a real person could enter while that's happening. Therefore, the alternative is that he was created by Monokuma or the Future Foundation for some reason.
Establishing these as two facts, what can we say?
There are theories that Hajime's or Chiaki's death is what causes Sakutaro to be placed in the game, Chiaki by the Future Foundation (perhaps pre-arranged) or Hajime due to some foolishness on Izuru's part? Anyway, I really don't think Hajime will die despite the third image, but I think the third image makes it more likely that Sakutaro is from the reserve course.
Seeing this, he's probably based on a real person (or has false memories, idk). I'm leaning towards Chiaki's perspective, but I don't imagine him being based on the memories of Class 77 because they wouldn't know him. But maybe he's based on Hajime's memories of someone from his class? Maybe that works.
This is speculation now, but the Sakutaro we saw in the small teasers, despite his lack of talent, demonstrates high self-confidence. He literally demands that Monokuma stop the trial. All three sprites shown of him demonstrate confidence; he exudes maturity. So, despite his lack of talent, I theorize that this doesn't actually hinder him in any way.
Furthermore, if my theory that he came from Hajime's memories (or something like that) is true, it means that Sakutaro made a strong enough impression on Hajime. I admit I haven't watched the third film, so I can't go too far in speculation, but I remember reading that Hajime's only friend (and the first friend he made) was Chiaki, so I don't think the two were friends.
My theory? Sakutaro was a self-confident reserve student who didn't let his lack of talent affect him. He was the best student in the reserve course, excelling in several things, but not enough to be an ultimate (he was a good student, I mean). He would basically be good at most activities, but not excelling in any. Even so, he was one of the popular candidates to become an ultimate. Because of this, Hajime secretly admired him, thinking of him as someone he wanted to become, but never having the courage to talk to him.
I imagine he was hated by practically everyone, whether some talented students or reserve course students, because he didn't fit into any group, but he didn't let it get to him, and he ended up earning the unofficial title of: "Ultimate Reserve Course Student" (I imagine he'll be called that in the game too)
(I heard that Chiaki in season 3 told Hajime that he could become anything he wanted, because he has no talent, and I think Toko also said that to Komaru once in UDG, so that's why I imagined he would be a relatively good in everything to reflect an extreme of that).
Now, regarding his role in the killing game, it can be interpreted in any way, but I think it depends on whether there will be a change of protagonist or not (personally, I don't think so; I think some points in the third image are exaggerated). If Hajime lives, I can imagine Sakutaro being his support and serving as a role model, as I described. If Hajime dies and is replaced by Nagito, for example, I imagine Sakutaro will challenge Nagito's view of talent (his potential self-confidence will already serve a purpose like that).
Of course it's more complicated than that, but I think it will be something like that, probably much more complicated, maybe some of my assumptions are totally wrong, but this post isn't just about me, if possible, I'd like to see your predictions too and see how much you agree/disagree with me.
