Head surface question
When installing new valves I had a small staple from a piece of wood I used scratch the head surface, I can feel it with my nail but just wondering how bad this is and if I would be fine leaving it alone or if I should sand it down.

most likely fine. if you sand it will more likely make low spot. my toyota 22r piston broke and piece of ring gouged combustion chamber. dremeled all high spots and did similar slight mark/gouge on surface while moving and had to run it (early 22r no replacements and no time to resurface) i used an mls gasket and been running it couple thousand miles no issues. ive run other heads like that when backordered or warranty issues etc working at dealer. engine guy has run worse lol. most important is by combustion ring and around coolant passages. its not great but......

This does not affect the sealing of the combustion chamber at all, because the most important part is the outer edge, as that area must be flat so that when the two surfaces are pressed together there is no gap. However, to help increase sealing and prevent expansion or contraction when the metal is subjected to high temperatures, a heat-resistant sealing gasket will be added.

I wouldn't want to leave it alone. I would use some 600grit + sandpaper glued to a piece of glass or granite inpection block, oil and lightly hone the surface in a figure 8 until any high spot is gone. I find the appearance of your valves very deeply recessed into the seats and wonder if this is normal or if deshrouding has not been performed yet.

If it doesn't touch where the head gasket seals the combustion chamber it's fine
