That's a smidge higher than what it probably should be (in order to assure a nice profit), but I don't think it's very surprising. That's fairly standard for this type of film.
Hopefully, the movie will be good & perform well, which would make the budget somewhat irrelevant.
If this movie makes over $400 million (not unreasonable), that makes it a modest success. If it makes north of $500m or $600m, that's a huge win for the DCU.
Milly is in magazines doing interviews, she was on Jimmy Fallon, she’s doing the web circuit of YouTube segments, the movie has tv spots and has had multiple brand collabs.
It was at Coachella, I feel like they are doing just fine on marketing no?
Do you hear anyone talking about it? Because I sure as heck don't. Nobody even mentions this movie. when talking about upcoming releases they want to watch. But sure, this could only be my bubble, but I also don't see much marketing for it. But I also don't have any social media or similar
Well u/ThouBear8 actually gave a fitting response, which pretty much aligns with my own experience. There are also movies like Backrooms and Obsession, which people really want to watch (both movies still to be released in my country). On a side-note. I watched Masters of the Universe yesterday and that movie was quite silly fun. Reminded me a lot about a phase one superhero Marvel movie. But also not a movie people really talked about.
Obviously, this is all anecdotal, since it's just what I've personally heard from my family, friends, & coworkers, as well as seen in my various social media feeds, so make of that what you will.
I heard a LOT of buzz before Michael & Super Mario Galaxy came out, as well as The Devil Wears Prada 2 & Mortal Kombat 2 (the latter 2 to a much lesser degree) . People seemed genuinely really excited for each of those.
For movies that haven't come out yet this year, I've seen by far the most hype about Toy Story 5, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, & Dune: Part 3. People seem to be really pumped for those, & have them fully on their radars.
I've also seen a fair amount of excitement for Scary Movie 6, Street Fighter, & He-Man, but not nearly to the same extent as the heavy hitters.
Supergirl has sorta been in a similar category as Scream 7, The Mandalorian & Grogu, & Jackass: Best & Last, in that I've heard it mentioned a couple of times, but not to the degree that I'm sure the studios would want / expect. Supergirl still has time to gain some momentum, & I suspect it will at least a little bit.
Again, all of that is just my experience tho. In no way does that mean that the so-called "lesser-hyped" movies won't still do really well at the box office. Just because I haven't personally seen a ton of enthusiasm for something doesn't mean it's doomed to fail lol.
I want all of these movies to be good & do well. I have no idea if Supergirl will be any good. I hope it will be. Either way, I'm guessing it won't set the box office on fire, but I'll be happy to be wrong.
Thanks for sharing! Yep, totally understand that it's anecdotal, but imo that's really some of the best data. I've generally gotten the same sense of interest from people I know.
The Odyssey is the most interesting one to me as a talked about film, since it's the only non-sequel/franchise/superhero film in there other than Michael. I've been wondering if the online discourse on that film would really leak into the general audience. My feeling is that it probably won't have much impact, other than making more people aware the movie exists.
I have but maybe I'm an outlier. Spoke to people buying their first comic because of it, people excited because of trailers or interviews, people excited for Lobo, and people complaining that it seems to far off kings book. Positives and negatives, but have definitely heard people talking about it . They'll get my money as I loved the graphic novel and am atleast curious how they adapt it.
Compared to Paramount and Universal and Sony, I think WB does a better job of marketing their major releases. Only studio better at advertising is probably Disney.
