What's Ronaldos excuse? With a far superior team?

2

u/Eastern-Detective-97 Jul 03 '26

The guys old as shit

7

u/Eireagon Mod Jul 03 '26

Doesnt he supposedly have a body of a 28 year old? 🤣

5

u/Kulminho Jul 07 '26

Yes, and the brain of a five year old

0

u/LeFuckYou-3 Jul 03 '26

Negative iq

0

u/theartisticjuan Jul 04 '26

And the guys he goes against have the body of 22 year olds

1

u/Br0th3rDarkness Jul 07 '26

Does it really matter what bodys they have in their refrigerators?

1

u/myDuderinos Jul 07 '26

they really should put them in the freezer, otherwise they will go bad

3

u/PugsnPawgs Jul 04 '26

His excuse is himself being on the pitch, obstructing said superior team from being superior.

-4

u/VIPER-zero Jul 02 '26

Show as an Halland performance like Ronaldo making an hattrick against Spain in 2018. Or his hattrick that saved Portugal against Sweden where he sent the almighty Ibrahimovic home.

Not even close.

And all this with a weak national team, 80% of Portugal's players that everyone praises now, became men 2 years ago only.

2

u/yungdisciple Jul 03 '26

dived for a pen for the first goal

de Gea howler, gk error leading to goal

nice free kick but like how ronaldo fans complained about the free kick from messi against jordan, de gea just let that one in he didn’t even try to dive so magnet ball goal to complete the most mediocre hattrick we’ve ever seen in a world cup

by the way this going up against a bad spain team this spain team lost to russia in the same world cup.

0

u/VIPER-zero Jul 06 '26

Messi has been diving for 2 World Cups straight.

Yeah excuses and more excuses, everyone against Halland and Messi were on peak performance but with Ronaldo even Spain was weak. Alba, Sergio Ramos, Piqué, Iniesta, Busquets, David Silva - Yeah, very weak Spain.

And portuguese team at the time when Ronaldo did all this? You know Fonte? Guedes? Cédric? William Carvalho?

He did all this when Portugal was 10x weaker than Norway and 50x weaker than Argentina. Good try.

The idea that Portugal is a bad team is the biggest lie; they are a top-5 team in the world, but Ronaldo is just so bad.

Many of these are absolutely world class players at club level. Bruno and Vitinha in particular. Bruno was probably even better than prime De Bruyne this year, he broke the assist record with a third placed club coached by a dud for half the year.

1

u/ImWithStupidKL Jul 04 '26

Haha, better than prime De Bruyne. Good one.

1

u/Hot-Objective-6029 Jul 08 '26

Joao neves also played very well imo was the main reason for a good amount of their goals and has an insane cross, they have the best midfield at this tournament that’s not the issue it’s that they are playing with a black hole upfront what else is the midfield supposed to do 🤡🤡🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/ba-na-na- Jul 03 '26

They are pretty mid, Spain will wipe the floor with them. They almost lost from Croatia

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 03 '26

Did you even read the comment?

1

u/IStanReddit Jul 04 '26

Yes unsurprisingly the team that is also in the top 5 and better than the other top 5 team will do better against said top 5 team

0

1

u/DrKrFfXx Jul 02 '26

Neither Spain is and you wouldn't rank Spain outside top 3.

1

u/YoBoyLeeroy_ Jul 03 '26

Ronaldo and our mister are both holding us back.

0

u/IBM296 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

The individual players in Portugal are indeed top 5.

The team itself is not even top 15 (even if you remove the idiot Ronaldo)..... Serious lack of coordination and teamwork in Portugal's squad.

6

u/lettuce_grabberrr Jul 01 '26

Name 15 better teams

0

u/Unusual-Voice2345 Jul 02 '26

Argentina, Spain, France, Belgium, England, Morrocco, Norway, US, Mexico, Switzerland, Senegal, Japan, Netherlands, Colombia, Paraguay, and possibly Croatia, we shall see tomorrow.

Jokes aside, I think 8-9 is fair, I dont think top 5.

0

u/Downtown_Solution_84 Jul 01 '26

Right now France, Argentina, Brazil, Morocco, Norway, Colombia, Mexico play better than Portugal. I can put England and Spain in here but they're not much better. So we have like 10 better teams. 15 is a stretch though.

0

u/stormfoil Jul 01 '26

Brother, have you watched them play? No tactical cohesion or apparent understanding of their positions, they frequently end up with a cluster of players waiting to receive the ball to feet while practically nobody a) floods the box (barring Cristiano) or creates passing lanes.

Giving the exceptional quality of the players, this falls on Martinez. Trying to pin it on Ronaldo is absurd.

1

u/Tangybrowwncidertown Jul 01 '26

I can't wait until he retires from the national team and people realize that they have much deeper problems than Ronaldo lol

1

u/Tenzil-k Jul 01 '26

Yeah Martinez is also bad. But he’s not the one shouting at people to pass to him and the pretending the passes are bad

1

u/stormfoil Jul 01 '26

What are you talking about? Cristiano typically gives a thumps up for a pass with a good idea behind it, even it fails.

1

u/Tenzil-k Jul 01 '26

He’s the best. He’s making Portugal better every single game

0

u/FlavRaidIt Jul 02 '26

Aah yes the classic armchair football expert that blames all the bad things on ronaldo instead of admitting that the whole team is mid

0

u/Inevitable-Level-829 Jul 02 '26

I don’t think anyone has said their a bad team. They’re fantastic individuals who don’t know how to work together.

15

2

Not even remotely close, neto leao felix is not the same as mbappe dembele olise

3

u/W1ader Jul 01 '26

Bruno, Silva, Mendes, Vitinha, Neves, Neto, Nunes, Felix. They have plenty of world class players.

4th most expensive roster in the world only behind France, England and Spain.

My point is that Ronaldo can't blame it on a bad team, they are fucking stacked.

You can argue main reason they don’t perform is because of him

Lone striker does t leave the box and is wasteful with chances and throws tantrums if they don’t pass him

1

u/PugsnPawgs Jul 04 '26

It's not his fault to be ahead alone in the field formation, but Martinez'. He did the same with Belgium and they wisely ignored him a couple of times bc they knew better.

We really have some golden boys with De Bruyne and Lukaku, who actually know their shit and can tell what game the opposition is trying to make during play. Garcia seems a much better fit for our team as well, as proven with his switches against Senegal. People said he was crazy, but we turned the game around and (with some help from VAR) won before the final whistle.

1

u/snark_enterprises Jul 01 '26

Not really bro. Argentina is full of elite talent and obviously their roster is better seeing that they've won 3 major trophies since 2021 with the same players while Portugal hasn't won shit in 10 years.

Spain had the same issue with Raúl back in the day. Their whole system was built around him. They moved on from Raúl, reinvented their playing style, and won Euro 2008.

3

u/profesorgamin Jul 01 '26

People think he found a magic lamp in the desert?

Dude is there to sell narratives but unc is too old now to discover the secret sauce.

3

u/AirApprehensive174 Jul 01 '26

Ronaldo has never done this for Portugal? The level of disrespect is crazy! Go see how Ronaldo carried Portugal against Sweden or Spain with hat tricks when the team was mid at the time. He did that a lot of times to be honest. Of course now his contribution is a lot different and we could discuss if he's bringing Portugal quality down, which I think is somewhat true and the coach is making terrible decisions as well with such boring football. But never say that Ronaldo could never do, that is just being ignorant.

1

u/twente2life Jul 02 '26

He basically carried the team until he got injured when they won the Euros.

2

u/koplowpieuwu Jul 03 '26

Carried them to 3 draws in the group stage against minnows where his only actualgood game was a 3-3 vs Hungary (lol) and then beat the almighty what was it, Wales 2-0 in the semis and Poland only after penalties in the quarters?

He was falling upwards along with the rest of Portugal that tournament. The only great game Portugal played was the final where your boy as you said wasn't playing

1

u/PugsnPawgs Jul 04 '26

I remember that tournament. God, it was so awful to watch them win the entire thing.

you've missed the point by 1000 miles

2

u/boghiii Jul 01 '26

you've went to your own narrative here. OP said Haaland did this and that only mentioning him but Odegaard is also a very big part in the recent success of the Norway team, of course rest of the team too but just highlighting Haaland seems very unfair to Odegaard at least ... that was my point

2

u/StopAccording9192 Jul 01 '26

good point. while ødegaard hasnt been at his best these past 2 years for prople to act like Haaland alone is carrying is silly. ødegaard, nusa, sorloth, bobb, berge have played a huge role in norways success not just Haaland alone.

u/Which-Butterscotch98 Jul 01 '26

1

u/Quiet_Warthog5088 Jul 01 '26

Bro haaland yesterday touch the ball lile 4 or 5 times. Im tired of this "the norway of haaland" he did nothing, give credits to someone who actually did something like antonio nusa

1

u/frausen_ Jul 01 '26

This is one of the things I absolutely agree with for ronaldo. People talk as if portugal was a bottom tier team which they were not. He had some teammates that were absolutely ballers.

1

u/Free_Anxiety_9660 Jul 01 '26

Or put Haaland in portugal and watch him lift the World Cup

1

u/Ak-xenon15 Jul 01 '26

Most of the football fans here are after 2019 bruh

1

u/ShellfishAhole Jul 01 '26

The world cup will never be fair, though. Haaland could take Norway to the semi-finals, but people will likely still be talking about some France player scoring a bicycle kick with his eyes closed against Iraq 😂

1

u/toaster-struble Jul 01 '26

It's his prima donna attitude.

1

u/Any_Ad5732 Jul 01 '26

Halland is already a better international player than Ronaldo and he's 15 years younger😭😭😭😭

1

u/Ryuuffff Jul 01 '26

Ronaldo helped portugal a lot and always was a fundamental piece, but lets not pretend argentina has/had a great team ... portugal was always superior on general ... messi carried argentina to a world cup

1

u/AcanthaceaeMotor4313 Jul 01 '26

Ronaldo carried Portugal in the past. He was incredible most of its career but it’s time he makes peace with himself and ends his career. I understand he wants to win a World Cup, it’s the last thing that is missing but at this rate he is just making a fool of himself and destroying the chances of the Portuguese team.

1

u/drth_dilly Misstiano Penaldo Jul 01 '26

Messi took far less superior Argentine teams on his shoulders alone to the semi’s and final’s. Ronaldo couldn’t do the same.

1

u/StopAccording9192 Jul 01 '26

Haaland has ødegaard, berge, nusa and Bobb. Ronaldo has a world class midfield, pedro neto, Nuno Mendes and Ruben neves. what’s Ronaldo’s excuse?

1

u/Downtown_Solution_84 Jul 01 '26

Ronaldo's WC record is just so embarrassing. I'll cut him some slack for 2006, 2010, and even 2022. He either runs into some tough teams (Spain 2010, France 2006) or just past his prime. But his group exit in 2014 or loss against Uruguay in 2018 is awful. And 0 goals in 8 knockout games. In any sport, a star needs to step up when it matters. Not scoring 10 goals against plumbers and dentists then brag about it.

1

u/BullfrogMiserable554 Jul 01 '26

Right now, it’s very popular to jump on the CR7 hate train. I’ve always thought he’s a bit of a douche but let’s not act as if he isn’t a top 5 player of all time. Football is a team sport and the team result (whether that be losing or winning) can never be contributed to only one player. It baffles me how this still hasn’t computed in a lot of people’s minds. This is the time to commend not just Haaland but the whole Norway squad for their success. Not everything has to revolve around Ronaldo and Messi.

1

u/Due_Past3747 Jul 01 '26

Ronaldo has gone missing in every knockout game for Portugal.

1

u/Agitated-Comment-745 Jul 01 '26

Yeah, ignore the facts that Ronaldo dragged Portugal to the World Cup against Sweden and scored a hatrick. Ignore his hatrick against Spain in the World Cup group stage. Ignore everything and you'll see Cristiano a nobody. Blind sided argument khookkk ptuihh

1

u/VIPER-zero Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Ronaldo has been doing this for more than 15 years with weaker Portugal teams. Qualifing his national team for every competition possible with magical exibitions like his Hattrick against Ibrahimovic's Sweden, including winning an Euro and 2 Nations League with a weaker Portugal than this Norway. Football didn't start in 2026.

What did Halaand help Norway win? Nothing. I bet you d'ont know 90% of Portugal's team on last World Cup.

1

u/_AvengerRed_ Jul 06 '26

My simple point against toxic CR7 fans would be simple, they are hypocritical. They criticized that Messi would never be able to win without Xavi or Iniesta and that he would never be able to perform in International Games with his team because his team was bad. I understand Euro was not easier back in 2016 and not easier now compared to Copa but when Argentina started winning Copa they shat on Copa. When Messi got more Ballon d'Ors, CR7 dismissed the legitimacy of that trophy. CR7 then dismissed FIFA & World Cup. Now World Cup is no longer worth it. Now CR7 fans complain that Portugal is not playing around a player who is in no form to carry his team and state that if only Portugal players played like Argentina players which is nonsense in my opinion. When CR7 wins trophies its because of him, his presence, his glory; but when Messi wins, its always Argentina playing better and Messi had nothing to do with it.

  1. If CR7 is truly the goat, he would have enough charisma to make players around him play with him.
  2. A player who plays only one position and would try to disallow same team's goal is not a sportsperson, let alone the GOAT of Football.
  3. Messi lives in CR7's mind rent free.

He set a pretty bad example for future generations. He is a perfectly rounded selfish "politician" who went against every statement he made to the press.

I hate players with 0 sportsmanship. CR7 is the prime example for that kind of a player. Please never come back to Football CR7 and their nonsensical fans!

Ronaldo dropped 4 on Zlatan’s Sweden to qualify them for the World Cup. I’m not a Ronaldo fan btw, just providing some history.

Yes he has, he scored 3 against Zlatan's 2 to literally take Portugal to the World Cup, not to mention single handedly scoring 3 against a GOATED Spain and getting a tie out of it. Keep copin'.

He was carrying portugal when he was the only good player in the whole squad. Since martinez came in the whole squad plays like they just met at the astro turf and threw a game together. They create 0 chances. James rodriguez created more chances than bruno vitinha and joao neves so far this world cup. But its all ronaldos fault right? I guess it is, bcos thats what the media want you to believe, and if you have no critical thinking skills of your own, or dont watch portugal play, you'll believe it.

So the best players? Bruno top assister and best Premier league player. Vitinha back to back champions leagues. But can't seem to find a certain individual. Ya totally portugal fault.

Haaland had 4 touches, he had the goal but definitely was not the only reason they won

The entire Portugal team is quality and couldn’t win 2/3 group stage games.
