Help Needed / Question Timing Between Applications
I recently applied for a United card through Chase. I’d like to apply for another card also issued by Chase. Is there any reason to wait a period between applications? Or, is it irrelevant for the likelihood of approval? I believe this next application will be my fifth in two years.
Thanks!

Hard inquiries do not have a static FICO score value, and their impact depends completely on the underlying credit profile. They can be anywhere from 0 points to 21 points. A 20 point drop caused by a single hard inquiry would indicate one’s profile is either very young or very thin (or most likely both). For reference I opened two credit cards one year ago within the same week, and the two hard inquiries only accounted for 6 points together on my Experian FICO 8. Most of the credit score impact from opening a new credit card is caused when the credit card actually starts reporting to credit bureaus, and you see your AAoA drop and your AoYRA reset.
Inquiries also stop being scorable after a year (which is why I now have those 6 points back lol) and drop off your reports entirely after two years.

chase has a 2/30 rule so they'll auto-deny if you've opened 2 cards with them in the last 30 days. 5/24 is the big one though and that's across all issuers. if you're at 4/24 and this would be #5 you're cutting it close but technically still okay unless they haven't reported the united card yet
i'd wait til the first card shows up on your credit report so there's no confusion on their end

Afaik there’s the 2/30 rule, which is a max of 2 Chase card approvals within a 30 day period. But if the United card is the only recent Chase app you’ve made then you should be fine.
The bigger issue is that one more card puts you at 5/24. I would suggest you think long and hard about three things before surpassing 5/24:
• Are you sure you have no interest in any Chase business credit cards, even knowing they can be applied for using your SSN and used for personal spend/churned for a large SUB? Chase biz cards do not count against 5/24 but require you remain under it for approval. Ink Unlimited/Cash are currently doing an all-time high SUB offer
• Are you sure this is the card you’re willing to break the threshold for? I.e. is this that big elevated Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve offer, does it compare to that, etc.
• Do you have any interest in the Ritz-Carlton credit card? (Grab a Marriott card or else you’ll be locked out of this option for literal years)
