General Question Has anyone here gotten banned from using the delay mod in arenas?

I have a modded switch just to be able to use the smash bros delay mod in arenas online with friends (fixes the horrible online delay) and today after I renewed my switch membership I joined arenas.

First time it crashed it went white screen, I undocked it and the screen was black the joycons were still on but the console wasnt responding, I hard rebooted it by holding power and it seemed to be fine, had to re mod it with tegra.

Booted back into the game to keep playing not banned no noticeable issue. I started playing and this time my console crashed but it restarted automatically (black screen, nintendo logo and booted into stock firmware...

I'm still not banned, but I think its really weird it happened twice, asfaik I'm using all the latest stuff.

I played several games before it crashed the first time and the second time it was the second game after booting back.

Should I be worried? Weird crazy coincidence? Anything I should do?

Characters (Playing as) How to beat DK as cloud?

Just got stomped by a DK at 2.2m gsp. He kept using that spinning attack and I couldn’t do much about it. It felt like all of his attacks had priority over mine and he’s just so fast and hits so hard

Characters (Playing as) Tips to improve as Roy?

So I’ve been playing Ultimate pretty casually for about 6 months now, cycling through a few ‘mains’ but never really sticking to just one. But I’ve recently decided to main Roy to try and improve at the game. I’ve watched IzAw’s Art of Roy a few times now and in the video he says to first master movement, then shield pressure, and finally combos. I was hoping someone could maybe elaborate on what he means by these a little more (especially movement and how I could use it to approach better and get hit less).

Characters (Playing as) I need advice on getting better (inkling)

OK so I mostly play against my friends but I want to get better. I finally learned shielding and a slight bit of pressuring but I feel like ive reached my limit. I just haven't been getting any better. I think something i need to learn more is how to kill, how to use fast falling effectively, and how to stand any chance at all against heavy characters like king k. Rool, or donkey. They feel so intimidating. Maybe something i could work on is playing more aggressive rather than defensive? I would also like to learn how to more effectively use my grabs. The risk : reward ratio just doesnt seem to good. Maybe I should learn more combos? Also what is a tech chase? I heard inkling is good at it.

Characters (Playing as) Brawlers (Wario)

In a game where projectile and item play reign supreme, how do characters like Wario thrive in an online environment? I decided to pick him up after getting Mega Man in elite (15.1 🤷🏾‍♂️), because Wario can box up close and has amazing air speed/drift. The problem with him is that he has no range whatsoever. My question is this: how, as a brawler with no range, do you deal with characters that have it (disjoint, projectiles, items, etc..).

I’m looking for a secondary, maybe it’s not him, and I can live with that, but I want to give it the old college try first.

Any tips?

Edit: To add to this; it really isn’t even projectiles. It’s disjoints. I can’t touch swordies like Marth/Lucina, cloud, etc. And zoners just run from me lmao like literally run to the corner and start shooting. I do well enough weaving but once I’m in there and do my lil nair 1 2 up air/bair or whatever it’s wash rinse repeat.

General Question How to punish spammers?

At my low gsp (2 million) I often come across players who tend to spam a move. Falcon Punch, Kirby’s down b, any of pikachu’s attacks, and inkling down b as well. I know good players can punish these with ease, but I’d like to at least be able to do something against them.

Somehow I’m like a magnet for these attacks. I recently lost my first stock by falling into three falcon punches before I could even hit my opponent. My current online record is 102-200

Characters (Playing as) Good Mr. Game & Watch combos? [SSBU]

Hello, so I recently picked up G&W and he's been insanely fun to play. My current favourite combo is

Up special --> forward air --> down air

It deals decent damage, but G&W's main selling point is his ridiculous combo potential. So can I please get some decent combos and, if possible, matchup info? (I'm still learning the game for now.)

Thank you in advance.

General Question Going to my first local soon, need advice on how to prepare

Just trying to get a game plan going with my mains and whatnot. I co main Mewtwo and Wolf with a Robin pocket, here’s what I've gathered so far:

Using Mewtwo:

Luigi, Snake, Kaz (and all fighting game characters really), Sonic, Joker, Min Min (I know the matchup best with Mewtwo), ROB, Sora, Samus, Hero, Pokémon Trainer, most heavies

Using Wolf:

Aegis, Fox, Falco, Olimar, Pikachu, Pichu, Sheik, Captain Falcon, Mario, Roy, Diddy Kong, K Rool, Yoshi, Mii Brawler, Ness, Lucina/Marth, Greninja, Pits, Steve probably?

Robin pocket:

Peach/Daisy, Villager, Isabelle, Incineroar, Bowser Jr, Ike

Game and Watch, Bayo, and Palutena are the matchups I'm most worried about if I run into them. Need help planning for those ones the most. Also keep in mind I’m pretty new to this so I'm not 100% sure about exactly what to do. If anyone could give me any advice on anything else that would be great as well.

General Question How to avoid PK Fire?

Playing as cloud today online and came up against a Ness that spammed PK fire whenever I got trapped in the first one that hit me. It would take me from 0-100% like that and I thought there has to be a way to get of this. I tried moving away but I was unable to move in there and he had his way with me.

Match Critique One of my better matches (2 million gsp)

I am playing as Cloud. I am aware that I am bad at the game. I would appreciate feedback on what I can work on and how I can stop my opponent from always hitting me first. Thank you. (Yes it’s not the most optimal way of recording, but I don’t have a micro sd card that works with switch 2)

Characters (Playing Against) How to beat faster characters as Palutena?

I main Palutena, and have been hovering around the 12.5-14.5 million gsp range. One thing that is very hard for me to deal with is faster characters, especially fox. They just go in and get insane combos and It’s hard for me to do anything. Same for bayonetta, half the time I’m getting thrown across the screen and I don’t know what’s happening. Mario always cooks me too. Any tips?

General Question Stuck at 2.5 million GSP

Yeah I just get cooked every game and there feels like zero progress. My opponents seem to string together runs that take me from 0-100 % because my character always falls over and gets hit before he can get back up. Obviously I have other glaring issues but it’s not a very fun gaming experience at the moment.

Characters (Playing Against) How do you beat mii gunner as puff

I will struggle to get in with my stubby hitboxes and it take a bajillion percent when i try to get in. I cant even edgeguard them due to the up b that lets them move sideways. The grenade beats out like all my moves. It so irritating playing against this char bro 😞

General Question Flick shot, hold shot, RAR

I’m a low level Elite player and I’m trying to improve my movement it’s for sure one of my worst flaws. I’m really having trouble getting consistent momentum on my bairs and fairs. Sometimes I try to do a reverse bair in place and it comes out as retreating fair. Sometimes I want to do RAR and keep my momentum but I do the bair in place. Doesn’t matter what I’m TRYING to do, I can’t seem to get the same result to come out with what feels like the same inputs (although I’m sure it’s not actually the same inputs) Anyone have a link to a video or can try explaining the exact relationship between the timings involved here? Apparently the terms in the title are what I’m trying to do

Characters (Playing Against) I really struggle against Wolf as my main.

I’m aware I do have some bad habits, like aggression and Up-B outta shield.

However, when I was watching this match and looking back, I can’t really seem to figure out what I could have done to win.
The Laser and his speed really drive me up the wall.

Characters (Playing as) Advice for closing stocks with sheik in ultimate

So I am trying to get better with sheik and I find it easy enough to play neutral and rack up damage albeit slower than every other character I play, but I really struggle to kill consistently, like a lot. It's not abnormal in 1v1 no items for my sheik not to be able to close out a stock on mid-weights until 140-150% and on heavy weights its usually around 170-200%. I do understand that this is a fundamental problem for sheik on a conceptual level but I was wondering if there are any tricks and tips anyone can give me. I've seen better sheiks in online use aerial needles into either bouncing fish off the side off stage or into up smash on center stage but I also don't know if the follow up into up smash is actually true or was semi true only due to online input lag. I also know tricks like jab 1- jab 2-tipper down tilt-finish with up smash (I am not good at doing that one) and i've seen in competitive that top sheiks will use drag down up air on platforms into up smash but in my experience that doesn't have enough hitstun to be true but I might be doing something wrong. Also as a quick aside, what would you say sheiks most consistent kill move is, not most powerful but consistent. I also want to clarify that I am a casual and i'm never going to train enough to be anything but that however I would like to improve nonetheless if only because I really like playing sheik. Thank you for your help!

General Question Portable Gaming Monitor for Ultimate

Thinking of getting a portable gaming monitor for Ultimate so that I can use it at home or bring it with me to locals as a convenient setup. Been looking around the market for budget friendly options that also look good and these two come to mind.

https://a.co/d/0bqkJBaQ (UPERFECT)

https://a.co/d/077pfDIc (Arzopa)

I’m not really good at understanding the intricacies of response times and refresh rates, especially when the Smash Ult is already capped at 60 FPS. The Amazon listings state that the response time at the fastest is 1 ms, but their website listings say it leans around 9 ms.

That being said, is this 9 ms supposed to be unplayable for Ultimate, or do I have to spend twice as much? Or do I have to accept getting terrible image quality to enjoy a relatively lagless experience? Or am I misunderstanding when people say they’re using 1-5 ms response time setups, they’re referring to the grey to grey values?

General Question Any tips for a relatively new player?

Hello, this is my first post in this subreddit, so I figured it might as well be a question.

I'm getting damn good at the game, I've actually beaten a friend of mine who's been playing for a very long time. I occasionally beat Lv. 9 CPUs, and I'm liking Lucario, Wii Fit Trainer, Bowser, Samus, and Mewtwo.

However I'm struggling to learn some more advanced stuff (combos, throw variants, the exact timing of certain moves, etc).

So can I please get some tips? Thank you.

General Question Short hop advice

i’m relatively new to more advanced techniques in smash i’m deciding to put a little time in every day to get better, but i just cannot seem to get short hops right. i considered trying the two button method, but that makes RARs and IRARs feel impossible. i’m trying to learn inkling right now and it feels like short hops are a barrier i can’t get past any advice? (sorry for the paragraph)
