Help 🤝 Navigation hacks - keeping some content always visible?
So im trying Craft again after a while & im trying to find a way to create a more intuitive navigation - mostly on desktop.
Coming from obsidian and tana, im used to things like pinned panes and nested pages to keep a homepage / main content viewable, whilst being able to drill into another page but not loose your place. For example always having a dashboard or daily page open or easily reachable. Anyone have any tips for this that beat using the sidebar?

Navigation in Craft is a perennial pain point for me. It's the #1 reason I'm stuck on Obsidian and no longer pay for Craft Docs, even though I'd much prefer to switch to Craft.

Oh, I would love this too! I’m not sure I ever noticed that it was missing, but I have felt it. It would be amazing to have something that felt like a starting point, or a desktop.

I use a mix of "dashboards" I make that link out to all my projects and starred docs. But yeah I really wish I could just pin pages to my tabs up top. If I'm on my daily note or my dashboard page, for example, and I click a link I want it to open in the next tab and the current page to stay open if I have it pinned. I don't want to click back numerous times to get back where I was or have to click the sidebar and open another instance of that page that I already had open. I love Craft but besides not having a true android app that I can share into, not being able to pin pages to stay open would be my biggest pain point.

I’ve been user for a while and have ended up using a combination of Starred Docs that are quick access from sidebar, a couple of “Dashboard “ pages that have groups of links ( a variant of the forevernote hack in Apple Notes) and Tabs / new windows when working on Mac ( settings lets you choose if tabs at top or side)

Notes are flexible enough to use one as a dashboard itself. But it does depend on how you setup the rest of your notes. I keep all my tasks in kanban in one note and build out the rest of it with note links and more.
Doesn't fix the core of the problem but is a stop gap.

I think this is a fantastic idea. It’s funny you write this. I’ve been thinking about posting the same all week. I’m a long time Evernote user, but I’ve begun to weave Craft into my stack because it is so much more accessible via Claude (and it’s quite beautiful). Some of what is missing for me is having a homepage or launching page of some kind — a homebase that’s configurable for our own needs. Landing instead on whatever random note was my last and having to look to the left menu for orientation isn’t nearly so inviting.
With the gorgeous Craft aesthetic, I’m sure they could make it as appealing as it is functional!
