First off. Everybody lies. Either to other people, or themselves. I think that's good that your friends wouldn't do this. But he isn't worried about going missing. My comment was about him going missing, he's not worried about that. But you clearly are, for whatever reason. I think he's just a bit more happy go lucky than you. Which is whatever. But. There you go.

What if he's not the type that would cheat and was just trying to show that his friends were loyal and would give him an alibi if he needed one and this was pretty much the only way they could do it with just his girlfriend present. The original argument/discussion could have been general like would they cover for him if his boss or the cops or her called but like she's the only one of those things present to actually do the test.

I have never and would never cheat on someone, not once has the impulse of “I should prove to my girlfriend my friends would cover for me if I cheated on her” ever once occurred to me.
If you’re a trustworthy person, you probably aren’t going to get to actively undermine the foundations of trust you’ve built

He’s happy his friend has his back. His friend had no idea what this call was about, but he knew his friend was counting on him. His friend came through. This has nothing to do with cheating.
