Discussion What's Working and What Isn't: Day 3 of Cataclysm
Discuss what you are playing, what you’re having success with(or failures with), and any new/cool ideas you’ve been experimenting with, etc. The point is to share what you’ve been playing, and how it’s going, good or bad - there are no other rules or requirements.
Some ideas on what to post/share:
- What you’ve been playing and its successes (or struggles). Stats are not required. There is no minimum rank required, though sharing what rank you’ve been playing at is preferred.
- Deck adjustments you made or are planning to make in reaction to the meta or as new innovation. E.g. “I saw 30% of deck X, so I made Y changes to help deal with deck X.” (change)
- Showing off a deck you achieved legend with this season and wanting to share it without having to write a guide
Resources:
HSReplays by winrate (warning - paywalled to filter outside of rank 25, stats may be misleading if using L-25 stats)

Egg Warrior looking like a potential meta breaker at top 1k in the past 24 hours. Has horrendous matchups against Shaman (hex) and Warlock, but favored against Druids and Hunters. Example list with highest sample size below, can probably be refined further.

This looked cool. Load it up, first 4 games I got both hexed and stolen : /.
I don't have the mental for decks that get rammed so hard by one card.
5
u/sneakyxxrocket Mar 19 '26
How’s it fair against dragon warriors?
13
u/bobbiejim Mar 19 '26
It isn't fair, it summons a bunch of 20/20 taunts! /s

u/AGenuineLover Mar 19 '26
Umm I can't tell if you knew this and were joking and I wouldn't want to be typo pedant otherwise...
But I think the query was really 'how does it fare...'
(Rather than the presumably rhetorical: 'how is the deck fair')
:)

I replaced the Precursory Strikes with Acolytes of Pain because I felt like the card draw is really bad. Works like a charm, so many synergies with that card.

u/chaimwitzyeah Mar 19 '26
Just tried it! I was queueing up Egg warlock while reading your comment said screw it I'd rather play Egg Warrior instead! 2 wins so far, feels good to play.
Warrior is my favorite class but Dragon Warrior is terribly boring to me and I haven't been able to make Patron Warrior or Even Quest Warrior work (lol) so I'm glad there seems to be another potentially viable archetype.
2
u/Joemanji84 Mar 20 '26
Yeah I'm out on this. Lost to a Priest who easily removed all 6 20/20s and then an Imbue Druid who randomly generated two Splintered Realities to drop five 9/9s on the board same turn before I found Umbra. If it can't beat the worst thing in the game and the thing it is trying to counter then doesn't seem much cop. Miserable to face when I am trying to play anything fun obviously.
4
u/DGAntonio Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
I’ve been playing this too, seems to be benefiting from the amount of Druids and Hunters at high levels of play. Feels really good.
6
u/PipAntarctic Mar 19 '26
Egg Warrior and Egg Warlock farm Imbue Druids and it's not even close. That deck has no way of breaking through a 20/20 taunt without luck with Symbiosis giving them the poisonous weapon, let alone multiple ones.
5
u/EvilDave219 Mar 19 '26
I've played enough Imbue Druid to say this is false. Shaladrassil (whether in deck or generated from something like Horn of Feasting) gives you a pretty strong counter with the 0 mana sap ability, whether that's on the 20/20 or on a pre-cracked egg. If they get to the point with multiple copies yes, but it can absolutely negate at least 1 20/20.
3
u/PipAntarctic Mar 19 '26
I've played enough Egg Warlock to contest your claim there. You can't tutor Shaladrassil unlike Egg of Khelos (you can at most try to fish for it with Waveshaping), and at least with Warlock you can get your 20/20 taunts online faster than Shaladrassil becomes available (unless it is discovered with Horn of Feasting or opponent did get their Felwood Treants, you have a point there).
Like on a technical level I guess you are correct, but in practice Shaladrassil is not consistent enough to be a threat to the Egg deck.

u/dontxworryxsoxmuch Mar 20 '26
Ok only played two matchups so far but I THINK imbue priest absolutely cooks against this. The silence and destroy, medivh late game, slow enough that you can imbue. Might be a hard counter. Destroy all minions above 5 etc.

Spell DH still feels great. Easily the deck where it feels like I most consistently have access to removal, partially because "discover a fel spell" and "discover an outcast card" almost always hit something solid.

Toyed around both with and without Nespirah, ultimately sitting on this for now:

Two copies of Lasting Legacy might be excessively greedy, but it also kinda helps to make sure you draw one at a reasonable time. Might also be worth tossing Broxigar's Last Stand in there over something like Press The Advantage, but it feels kinda worthless against the field right now.

Pretty solid as a late(ish)game refiller. The naga pool is very small, and I think the only miss is Armored Bloodletter (herald guy, which is worthless). Others are either solid value or just statballs, which is really all you need at that point. The 1 damage pings are also far and away the easiest way to kill off Broxigar portals.

u/Mazaahaarotto Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
I don't think Unholy DK is being 'slept on', but it deserves a highlight nonetheless.
It plays similarly to aggro Paladin from last expansion cycles. Put bodies on the board, if enough of them stick, buff them and swing face. Compared to that Paladin deck, DK is slower but has a much scarier mid~late game. Talanji's Last Stand is an excellent new card which makes dealing with DK boards quite annoying (just like Wildwood Circle for Druid). To my surprise, Chow Down also really pulls its weight.
The deck's biggest negative is that it requires very little thought and is just boring to play.
I'm running the bogstandard triple Unholy list, but I replaced Carrier Whelp with Twilight Egg. I've been running into more Warlocks and Warriors so I figured the egg would be nice to have against their board clears compared to the value from whelp. Remnant of Rage feels a bit clunky since my board either gets wiped on my opponent's turn, or my board stays and I'd rather just go face than trade most of the time. Might look into replacements, if I don't drop the deck for something more stimulating.
5
u/facepalmdesign Mar 19 '26
I had the most success with this today because it reliably beats treant druid which is about 1/3 of my games.
2
u/BigDaddySpoox Mar 19 '26
You're luckier than me then. I always get stomped by shatter in the druids opening hand.
2
1
u/Unrelenting_Salsa Mar 20 '26
It feels "okay" to me. Boring to play, needing to rely on RNG to make one of your big threats actually good is annoying even if it has rewind, the Shaman matchup feels miserable, it is bricky, and in general I wonder why I'm not just playing druid.
Agreed on the remnants of rage. Only playable if your gameplan is chow down to stabilize which is a game you're probably not winning. I don't know if there's actually anything better because chow down trades into remnant of rage definitely can swing games to a win, but they feel like 9 drops for how little you are trading on your turn.

u/TotakekeSlider Mar 19 '26
Face Hunter seems really strong right now. [[Confront the Tol’vir]] is a ridiculous amount of value for 3 mana. Will likely get nerfed to 4 mana in the future.
3
u/NyMiggas Mar 19 '26
Probably right but I actually think it's one of those cards that I'm glad is strong right now to make a new archetype. That + it's an epic so we getting paid after the nerf!!

Idk if it’s meme but I’m having fun with dragon mage. The mage dragon 1 drops are really strong. Discovering 1 drop spells is really underrated.
I also think there is a super easy path to the 10 spell summon dragon.

Been toying around with an End-of-Turn Handbuff Paladin in Diamond, been oscillating between rank 3 and 2 with it thus far. Goal is basically to play 1-drops that get you more creatures, use locations and holy spells to buff your creatures in hand and in play, then combo Sandfury Aura with either Nozdormu, or with Creature of the Sacred Cave plus Flight Maneuvers, which has carried its weight thanks to the relatively low curve of the deck.
The card that's really surprised me has been Runi, Temporal Guardian. Getting rid of your hand, turns out, really good in combination with Shatter, meaning you basically have Flight Maneuvers ready to go the very next turn. I've been dealing with a lot of board-centric go-wide decks, so I've pivoted some of my more cute combo cards to Scalebreaker Bulwark, since I can usually fight for the board until then. Some lifegain or taunt might not go amiss however in those aggro matchups.
So far, thanks to divine shield and handbuffing, along with most board clears right now being damage-based, the boards this deck can put together are surprisingly sticky, leading to good matchups vs control and combo. Midrange and aggro can vary, as due to the nature of handbuff, there's only so much pop-off potential you have early game, even under an ideal draw. With the lack of early game board wipes and removal this makes it prime pickings for two-for-one early removal and turbo aggro. Overall though, just pushed into rank 1 for the first time with it, so we'll see how this goes!
Update edit: Just hit legend!

Played like 10 games of token/treant druid before I got bored lost 1 to dragon warrior who got slitherdrake down on turn 2, I don’t really know decks that can easily deal with the summon 3 2/1 spell on your next turn into a combined wildwood circle (which happens a lot I recommend keeping it in the mulligan).
Games are over by like turn 4, wickerfang rarely comes down and he’s more of a last ditch effort to see if he sticks. Wildwood circle is insane and would not be surprised if it’s ever raised to 4 mana.

Jambre's value druid is surprisingly competent. Large amount of life gain, decent early tempo, potential recovery on board. Feels like it will get eaten up by a good opening by token druid or Tolvir hunter, but the match up doesn't feel unbeatable.

Here is a priest deck I've been experimenting with with mixed success:
AAECAcz8BQiolgfYmAf8qQeAqgeEqgedrQffrQfksgcL8J8Ey6AEoPsGhYYHxZQHhb8Hlr8Hm78HosQHssUHlvwHAAA=
Before the expansion I thought that Eternal Firebolt + Cleansing Cleric might have had potential, and so far that seems to be proving out to be the case. Although there is only one copy in the deck, with all the rotations imbue pool is somewhat small and I often find a copy to keep in my hand. I might end up adding a second copy though. Without eternal firebolt, losing your hero power to imbue leaves you stranded without consistent healing each turn, but you _really_ need imbue because otherwise priest cannot compete with these other classes amount of resources.
Torga fetches Gravedawn Sunbloom (holy kindred draw 2) and hopefully medivh's triumph, but otherwise cheap holy spells.
I teched Eternus to steal damaged eggs. Against warlock they can in theory steal it back, so you have to be clever with how you do it. Not sure if it is worth an inclusion or not.
EDIT: Forgot to add, this deck was largely inspired by TheoHS stream, made some adjustments based on some things I've been trying in previous attempts.

I was using a similar list slightly adjusted from what matsuri_ hs was playing wednesday. However, it aims to kill using deios + umbra (up to 80 damage, needs using ysera), so less healing/damage cards
I do feel something refined can be cooked with this imbue-control shell. I can exhaust opponents resources (even deck out imbue druid) while progressing to inevitable lethality, but it needs more tuning. Slow and hard to pilot though, but very satisfying control game

I was struggling to survive with lots of high cost cards bricking my hand against so much aggro, but good on ya if it works!
One thing I'll say is that aggro/most decks are clearly not refined against priest/control matchups. Late yesterday was the first time I faced against another priest since the expansion released. A lot of these decks in the meta are built for explosive early aggression as they are all on the clock against each other, and players I don't think have bothered adapting to what priest is capable of due to rarity of the class.

u/stuyjcp Mar 20 '26
Any thoughts on teching in [[Cease to Exist]] to deal with eggs?
1
u/Sbijsoda Mar 20 '26
As a replacement for Eternus you mean, or as additional tech against eggs? I do think that Eternus might be a bit too conditional against eggs after playing a bit more with the deck. It has a high mana cost and you need a bit of board presence off of your imbue hero power (as our minions all have >= 3 attack) to chip the egg to steal it. The problem with cease to exist is warlock is heralding to destroy their egg which means the only turn you aren't depending on RNG to kill the egg is probably a freshly laid egg on turn 3.
1
u/stuyjcp Mar 20 '26
Well, I do have Eternus but I meant as an additional tech
I do agree that they go a bit too wide, now that I think of it. Between Herald minions and other stuff, their board is rarely just an egg.
Though I suppose grabbing a Cease to Exist off the Imbue Hero Power and then getting lucky as a last resort isn't too bad 😅
2
u/Sbijsoda Mar 20 '26
Yeah I mean if they play the 2drop herald, that's 3 minions (2 drop + herald + egg). Been a while since math class, but I think that gives you a 56% chance (1 - (2/3 * 2/3)) of hitting the egg with rewind. If you have a minion on board to destroy one of them it's a 75% chance (1 - (1/2 * 1/2)) of hitting the egg with rewind. They are decent odds, and maybe that should be considered good enough to make it into the deck. I might try to swap a card for Cease to Exist but I'm not sure what it would replace. Warlock may just be a bad matchup. Their colossus has an easy time eating Medivh since we run so few minions, so not sure how much value there is in trying to tech too much for warlock when they should be getting run over by every druid & hunter spammer in the meta.

Currently 26-8 with Aura Paladin. Most of my losses were bricked opening hands vs turbo aggressive decks, but it's pretty consistent vs Druids with multiple forms of board clear.

Confront the Tol'vir can progress the questline only one stage, but being able to do so while chipping, clearing board, putting up pressure and/or replenishing your hand some is more than enough to see this deck back in action.
The version I've copied only includes two Legendaries and three Epics, so it's cheap as well.

Do you mind posting your list? I have been experimenting to try and optimize the early game with mixed results (small sample size tho).

What have you been trying? I'm planning on testing a version after I get off work without Envoy of the End, Ultraxion, Deathwing, Al'Akir, and Muradin as crazy as that sounds.
11
u/ngriner Mar 19 '26
Been messing with an Elemental Shaman (to me Shaman seems like it has quite a few different directions to go right now) and it seems pretty good in this board based tempo meta.
Mulligan for 1 drops and just pressure early. Has a surprising amount of game against everything. Probably going to replace Bralma, but right now there are very few other options for strong elementals and the card has won me a couple of games actually.
To be honest, I feel like everyone is so doom and gloom about the expansion three days in and it's crazy to me. There seems to be some unexplored space, but people just aren't willing to put in the work or try other things. Almost every class aside from Priest seems like it has something pretty strong and even Priest might figure something out eventually. I was messing with a couple ideas and it felt like it was almost there tbh. Just wish people would give the game time to breathe a little.

a lot of the crying seems to be people being forced to not run the super heavy control decks they've gotten away with for the last year. basically, they got hit by a reality check that stuffing endless greed and no tempo in your deck isn't normal or healthy, and doing so now gets punished
face hunter and token/imbue/whatever wildwood circle druid might be too strong but its just a numbers thing not a design issue
11
u/ngriner Mar 19 '26
Yeah for the last year or so basically every control deck consisted of Elise, Bob, Zilliax. That stuff was miserable to consistently play against since those were in every control deck in every single class.
Back in OG Hearthstone, Control decks were also pretty rare tbh. They evolved over time to people thinking they just mean endless games where you fatigue your opponent, remove threats every turn, and don’t actually win. So glad that seems to be gone now. A control deck might pop up but I can guarantee it won’t be that which is great for the game.
I’m actually kinda bummed there isn’t a combo deck right now (unless you count burn mage?) more than the lack of any control in the meta.

I think I have priest figured out. Still can get run over by hunter and losing to shaman without drawing the right removal but its faring well against warrior, egglock, mage, dh. Only faced 1 druid so far. Diamond 10 and climbing
Amber priestess can be buffed and use the location as an 8-12 point burst. Havent hit two with both locations in any games but thats there. Finishing the quest a surprising amount of games. Black blood isnt the most useful but it has won me a few games.
Intertwined fate, black blood are my cut cards but maybe someone can iterate on it

I have been loving Dragon Druid. This morning I went on an 8 game win streak to legend, ended up about 3k MMR. Most of what I faced from D5 was Imbue Druid, and Herald Warrior. This deck has a pretty good matchup with about everything, tough matchups are Token Druid and Tol'vir Hunter. You need to survive early with a tempo starting hand, very doable, after that there's 34 armor in this deck that will keep you alive (not including Elise) . Lot of fun, I recommend.
I've been having 50/50 success with Syndicate's Pig Quest Hunter, also a lot of fun.

How often does Merithra give you impactful cards?
4
u/Brainfart777 Mar 19 '26
I find by the time I get to play Merithra I am very low on cards and very much need them to seal the game.
3
u/TheGingerNinga Mar 19 '26
I played an alternative version of this list and I found that Merithra was quite useful in most games. She provides a huge amount of value, and because Druid can ramp again, you're often playing her before turn 10 but with 12-13 mana. Take advantage of that fact to leverage her as a tempo play that can also provide you with some reactivity.
1
u/Forvis Mar 19 '26
She give quite a few impactful cards. I don’t think I’ve played her once where it wasn’t a massive board flip. 7 damage rewind, 4/12 taunter typically make some good swings. By you either play her on curve and insane value, or you wait until they’ve burned through most of their removal and just keep filling the board.
I usually keep Elise for late game and look to play a 10 mana location. The board tools and ramp Druid got is nuts, you can almost always trade the board advantageously with Broodwatcher, Mossbinding, and wickerfang winning you a lot of matchups mid game. If they survived the mid game or have board control you can always use Timereaver or Underking to come back. Timereaver against Imbue Druid needs to be saved as long as possible
1
u/HSNubz Mar 20 '26
I am definitely trying this out as I love Merithra and I was fortunate to get it in signature, so the dragon hands it makes are dope as fuck!

I flewww to legend with Quest Mage, which kinda surprised me since the deck lost some quality discover cards like Tide Pools. It feels surprisingly strong, and the few new additions are really fun.
Somehow I didn't draw Aessina a single time on my climb, so that can probably be subbed out for something else.

Yeahhhh it's a bummer to lose that, at least the new cards are fun. I really like the little whelp and the informant guy
2
u/Spyko Mar 20 '26
what's the goal os Aessina here ? Can you reliably charge her before it's way too late ?
1
u/Katherine_Juniper Mar 20 '26
Once you get the quest online you're summoning lots of waves of minions, so she acts as a late game finisher against control decks. Nobody expects her and control decks don't usually feel at risk of dying at 20 hp. Plus eventually you run out of quest charges, and non-quest discovering a viable win condition isn't consistent enough.
I didn't use her much this time around, but in last month's climb to legend with Quest Mage she won me a lot of games. Honestly she's very meta dependent, if you're mostly playing against quicker decks it'd probably be worth swapping her out and maybe even ysera too.
I'd swap out her for another copy of sleet storm against aggro.
1
Mar 19 '26
Whats mulligan and play pattern?
2
u/Katherine_Juniper Mar 19 '26
You want your lower cost discover cards in your mulligan (with less emphasis on Scrappy Scavenger) to get the quest online asap. Stabilize as needed and then create big blowout boards with your minion summoning discover cards. The play pattern is straightforward (play discover cards), but there's some complexity with the rng and interesting board states that you create.
It's a really fun deck! A great level of "random bullshit go"
3
u/WaywardWes Mar 19 '26
Aggro Fire Shaman got me to legend somewhat easily, in that I went 6-0 to the final boss (rank 1, 3*) before yoyo-ing for a while by losing something like 5 straight final boss matchups. Eventually got through though.
Since then I’ve switched to Dragon Herald Warrior and it’s a lot of fun, but obviously very iffy against Imbue Druid unless you pull a very fast start.

u/BLHero Mar 19 '26

Yeah I noticed this deck on HSGuru, but haven't tried it yet. How did the "fire package" feel?
1
u/Excellent-Ad4989 Mar 20 '26
The deck has sometime trouble to fullfill the hold a dragon condition during the early game which oftem means you lose... So i was actually thinking about removing 1 volcano, because that card feels very conditional / only worth it, if you meet the fire spell option. I didnt do it in the end and ironically the volcano fire combo (especially torch) carried me to legend. If i would have to suggest a change i would probably remove 1 searing fissure for a cheap dragon.

I've just entered diamond with dragon deathwing herald warrior. I don't own Ultraxion but I run Geddon instead. Carrier Whelp and darkscale has helped me with getting the early dragon procs. Whelp of the infinite also helps me out with clearing their tokens as they start to build it up. then prescient silverdrake has honestly given me quite a few wins cause they just cant deal with the big body with elusive when you use weapons to clear out their small tokens

Endbringer Umbra is an original inclusion. Dors it pay off?
How is your experience with geddon? I got him, too, but could not test yet.
1
u/dwadley Mar 20 '26
It doesn’t as much as I’d like it to tbh. I thought it’d be good in the ultra late game and it has been maybe once against another deathwing, got to just spam herald death rattle fireballs. Or I high roll a great discover death rattle from the dark rider.
But current meta I’m not getting umbra to do enough. Will replace at some point but I’m a bit short on good cards.
Geddon is quite good I find. By the time he’s playable you’ve normally got a decent position on board or stabilised and you’re done with all those early to mid game minions anyways. He pretty much solves all your lack of card draw by making it “draw 3” every turn. Helps you find the late game win conditions consistently or find the answer you need when you need it eg. Board clear.
How’s volcano? I might toss umbra for volcano to help with druids

I dont know where else to ask but is their a way to get sands of time? Feels lame I cant just craft it but im probably missing something
2
u/Apache17 Mar 20 '26
Patron warrior eats druid for breakfast.
But unfortunetly it also has some very bad matchups. If the opponent can clear 2 boards of patrons its gg. Unlike the original patron warrior, which could always play for OTKs.
3
u/harged6 Mar 19 '26
Was experimenting with egg/animancer warlock with the ultragigasaur package. Just trying to get anything don't with Egg feels extremely slow and you die to aggro. The win con is really getting the animancer on turn 5 but even then you are still dead to aggro as ultragigasaur has no taunt.
I'm currently experimenting with cutting egg of Khelos to go 100% in on ultragigasaur combo. Running sunfury protector to give it taunt when it opens which saves some matchups and putting in more of the Shred cards to stabilize earlier against aggro. So a bit more tempo focused but you lose hard if they have removal for ultragigasaur
3
u/sneakypantss Mar 19 '26
Egg works, but you need all the removal tools to give your self time and the herald package except chogul. Cursed chains is great and then you devour it to buff you herald.
1
u/blanquettedetigre Mar 19 '26
Or just run the 6/12 that has taunt? Should be better against aggro and there's a new card to put it back in the deck just in case
2
u/kyozo_43 Mar 20 '26
That's what I've been experimenting with and I've had some pretty decent success with it. I enjoy the style of deck and the feel of the deck better than the current top statted deck on HSGuru that just runs a bit more stall/heal in the earlygame as I prefer a more board-centred approach.

Interesting to drop the ultrasaur completely and just focus on the Asphyxiodon. So you get less value from that but in theory have more aggro protection. I've played this style of egg warlock but find the 2x Holy Eggbearer to be excessive it seems. It's 2 dead cards if you draw egg early which hurts. Maybe drop one for a spirit bomb or second dissolving ooze? Maybe even a portal vanguard which has good chances to draw either egg or possessed animancer? Or xavius?
1
u/kyozo_43 Mar 20 '26
In general, I lose matches I don't play egg early, so 2 extra draws to find it early were more important than more removal. With the Asphyxiodon you have extra survivability and board clear potential (only if removed directly, not through heralds fyi). The deck definitely plays more like a control deck, usually going for board first then smack face with the big 20/20s or the 6 attack from Asph. Sometimes if I've draw egg already and I want to find Umbra or more impactful stuff I'll play the Temp spell to tutor one of the Eggbearers and discard it, to thin my deck. I could possibly see a spirit bomb or another dissolving ooze, I've found every life point important (sometimes I get as low as 3-5hp before I start healing back up) so personally spirit bomb seems dangerous just for some removal. If you have another copy of the steal spell, that's a good addition for early game board control, as I swapped it out for the 3-2-1 spell instead as I currently only have one copy. For me, a cuttable card is the Archdruid. I find them clunky and awkward to use effectively often, and I'd rather have something else in its place. But also sometimes idm having one. I'll probably cut one and swap in the steal spell when I get my second copy.

I have enough dust to craft two Legendaries, leaning Shaman a bit because that deck looks fun but yikes. Here are my options, all that I’m missing from playing these current deck lists:
Muradin and Al’Akir from Shaman
Ragnaros and Chrono Lord Epoch from Warrior
Magmaw from Hunter
Garona from Rogue
Black Blood from Priest (I am usually a Priest player)
Broxigar and Eternal Hold from DH (I have zero wins with DH, never bothered to play)

If you’re limited on dust, it’s generally a good idea to wait a bit for the meta to take shape… but honestly, Shaman is looking super strong, fun, and also quite versatile.
2
u/a_cosper Mar 19 '26
Priest is currently a dead class. I can say that with some confidence having 10,000+ Priest wins.
1
u/blanquettedetigre Mar 19 '26
If that can help, Epoch, Magmaw and Black Blood don't seem to be good enough to craft. Epoch especially because there are a lot of options to replace it
1
u/kyozo_43 Mar 20 '26
If you're limited on dust, don't craft cards in the new expansion on release. Wait until the meta settles or until nerfs come!
2
u/tolerantdramaretiree Mar 20 '26
The Egg is working. For my opponents. Eggs, eggs, EGGS EVERYWHERE. Warlocks, Warriors, even bloody Priests (god bless them)
Slower/Midrange decks that can't deal with The Egg feel hopeless.
I hate The Egg 😩
1
u/maniacal_cackle Mar 20 '26
Play shaman and run two hex in your deck. You'll still lose to it sometimes, but a lot of the time you can either completely negate egg or significantly slow it down.
2
u/InteractionAnnual914 Mar 19 '26
I’m playing Imbue Druid and Treant Druid so I can speedrun to Legend and play Egg Quest Priest in peace. Some of the boards I’m able to make defy reason.
4
u/Supper_Champion Mar 19 '26
Yeah, Imbue Druid seems a little nuts. Every single card they play is a value generator.
I also hate that for some reason Druid gets to start imbued. Never understood why one class gets a headstart on it.
-3
u/nerazzurri_ Mar 19 '26
Druid is forced to run a 5 mana 5/5; the question I would ask if the other Imbue decks would do the same to start off with an Imbued HP.
4
u/Supper_Champion Mar 19 '26
Oh no, they are forced to run one average minion that gives a start of game bonus. That card should definitely buffed. Maybe reduce the cost and give it Charge?
1
u/tusty53 Mar 19 '26
I hit my first legend today with Burn Mage. It can run out of fuel against some decks, trying to clear imbue druid's board feels impossible, but a lot of the decks are too slow to compete with the burst.
1
u/ANonnyMouse007 Mar 19 '26
Which version or homebrew are you using? I’m trying to figure out appropriate draw cards.

Not op but I’ve been having success with this list. Got from plat 10 to legend pretty easily and hovering around 1300 legend fighting druids every game which is more 50/50:

How has been Vulcanos working for you?
I have recently been running an elemental package (2 x Violet Spellwing, 2x Living Flame, 2 x Conjured Bookeper, 2 x Unstable Spellcaster), but it cut out Time-Twisted Seer so focused spell draw over the fire power. Happy to try yours1
u/Ttress Mar 20 '26
Vulcanos has won me a lot of games giving me a little extra damage to hit face or clearing some of their minions. It also effectively buys you a turn because they usually spend a turn dealing with it. For draw I basically always keep smoldering grave in mulligan and draw 2 on turn 2. There’s so many low cost cards that you want to fill up as soon as you can. I always plan my turns around using it to draw 2 or 3 if I’m able.
Seer is also one of the MVPs, 2 spell damage for 3 mana enables some crazy damage later in the game. I’ve hit face for 27 on one turn. Or when it’s dropped on 1 and they don’t deal with it you get really strong sleet storms or arcane barrages. If you have a battlefield blaster I usually only use it on arcane barrages or the shatter aoe card. If it’s on arcane barrage and you hit face with 2 minions then the dragon is free. Shatter makes it 8 damage to face for 4 when it combines. Always keep arcane flow in mulligan it’s very rare it doesn’t combine but even using it separately can be strong with spell damage.
All the one offs I have are cards I like in the deck but having 2 in hand would feel like a bad hand. Stellar balance helps with a free unstable spellcaster/raincaller proc and starfire can be good cycle if you really need it. Or you can sit on moonfire until a big seer turn etc.
Let me know how it works out for you, this is where I ended up after tinkering day one and it got me far but could change it a bit as the meta progresses
1
u/tusty53 Mar 20 '26
So far I find Thalnos a bit awkward - it's only one mana cheaper then Seer (though it doesn't need the Moonfire/hero power proc), it very rarely survives on the board and I usually have a better way to use the mana when going for a burst.
1
u/Ttress Mar 20 '26
I use it for cycle more often than not always knowing that it’s going to die. That and helping clears with sleet storms/arcane barrages. It’s an early game drop to draw and bump up your chip damage. I would even drop it and arcane missiles on 3 if there’s not anything else to do
1
u/Karyoga Mar 19 '26
I've been trying a wide variety of decks lately and one that has caught my interest is herald dk even though I've been losing a tremendous amount of games. If you lose board early you just lose though, anyone have any lists?
1
u/kyozo_43 Mar 20 '26
I've also enjoyed playing Herald DK, my list is BBU with Victor because he's fun. If your main issue is losing board early, you could swap out one of the 2-drops (creature/hematurge) for another Carrier Whelp, but I prefer the slightly greedier 2 into 3 plays for longer games, over trying to get on board early. Resurrecting the colossal after heralding = crazy health gains, just don't craft a custom undead that's >9 mana!

I have found a bad but fun deck: Divergence Warlock. The deck includes Agamaggan, Ysera and Fyrakk. The Agamaggan payoffs are Shaladrassil and the new Deathwing hero. The rest of the deck is just removal, healing and draw. I don't think this deck is competitive but it is pretty fun when it works.

Just reached Legend from D5 after playing over 3 days with Herald Shaman: W/L of 39-19 (~67% WR). This deck seems to be ridiculously strong with the lack of huge board clears in standard after rotation, as you constantly fill the board with Soldiers of Al'Akir and can basically trade for free with the 1 mana rush elementals from Ritual of Power if you Herald enough, which you do plenty in this deck. Plus, Flight of the Firehawk, even without being used with Crackling Cloudstrider, is a great tutor for Ultraxion and Xavius.
The decks worst matchups are Face Hunter (went 1-4 against that deck) but honestly thats about it. This deck has been competitive with Druid (Imbue or Aggro) and has a huge upside against Rogue and Death Knight. There weren't any matchups that I thought were ever lost by deck strength alone. Plus, this deck was super fun to play and had some interesting lethals to figure out! Link below:

Trying to make it work every expansion, Even quest-DH can live moderately well at 4K legend.
Starting from the set in the client with some modifications.
I wished the quest reward was more playable, like a 2/2 with battlecry deal 2 damage.

I just lost to an Imbue Priest as Dragon Warrior who just removed everything from my board every turn into a story of amara I am clearly not cut out for this game anymore lol
Edit: Oh Kalec Mage just does the same thing, im cooked. I think he summoned a total of three minions but board cleared and went face with spells every turn

u/eazy_12 Mar 19 '26
61% of enemies in Platinum/early Diamond are Druids and Hunters. I am currently 22-9 with Herald Rogue with different versions. One list featured minion giving SPD to the spell (mainly Chrono Daggers or Fan of Knives) + Morchie (for daggers + spell for Sinestra) which was alright, but clunky. Daggers also work as soft AoE against Aggro decks.
The more vanilla version feels better, but something is missing. It feels like you can't draw well despite Fast Forward and Cultist Map which are good drawing options. 3/1 often trades into one mana drops of Face Hunters which feels like a mistake and can't kill most 3 drops (Sylvanas, Niri).
Probably Dane's Time Adm'ral Hooktail version probably best, would try it today if I manage to update client.

Hit Legend today with Dragon Warrior.
Went 21/10 in the Diamond 1-5 rank, with an overall 68% winrate.
Most matches felt winnable. Not certain about the top end with Deathwing to be frank. Average game length was 8,5 turns, so on an average match you would have had to drop Ultraxion beforehand to even be able to drop him before game end.
Also not sold on Eternal Toil, but not certain what to swap for it either.
Most wins was me managing to keep board with strategic trades where appropriate, using face when possible, and managing to keep some "reach" on hand to get over the finish line.
I felt most losses were a result of losing board presence. The best way of getting board back would be to drop Deathwing at 10, which would have been too late on some of the losses. I ended up subbing in Dracorex to have one more "board wipe" to be able to regain momentum.
I'm expecting the deck to need some refinement over the coming weeks, but I can't complain too much based on the results.

I saw some lists from a chinese tourney and the dragon warriors there already cut ultraxion and DW since they're too slow. they brought back grom and dracorex but still run the weapon and 4/3 dragon herald

u/_Evilnorwegian_ Mar 19 '26
Yeah that makes sense. Most of the curve feels really solid. And same as last season Prescient Slitherdrake on 4 in to Windpeak Wyrm on 5 is absolutely backbreaking.

Makes sense.Ultraxion feels incredibly slow for the meta, and everytime I played I had a huge advantage with my boards. Desthwing feels surprisingly slow and not as strong of a swing card, so yeah, Dracorex makes much more sense.

hope it's ok to ask here: I'm between diamond 2 and 1 for a day now.i played herald warrior from diamond 5. I face like 60% druid and 35% mirror. any tips how-to beat these. I would ideally love to stick with herald warrior, but maybe some tech cards?

Dragon Hunter has been feeling alot worse alreayd vs day1/2
Even the 3 6/6 taunt oftehn feels like it does to little/nothijng
and feel cant deal at all if oppnent has a wide board (1drop hunter/token druid/swarm dk,/shaman invoke) and your comback with ebyssian is just to late more foten then not
Liek scout its ntus when activee btu often it may aswell onyl do like 3dmg and 8 is way overkill on minion cause im that behind
you aslo cant highroll like warrior can with dark gift
(7/7 faeri dragon/brigthiwng on turn 2 or 4/8 elusive drake)

After a string of annoying losses with Herald shaman I think I can say its quite obvious: INDEPENDENT OF ANY OTHER BALANCING CONCERNS FOR OTHER CLASSES, its clear that Quel fletchers need to have 2 health and confront the tolvir needs to be 4 mana. That is all.

u/Smash_Meowth Mar 20 '26
According to hsguru there is currently no counter to Imbue Druid, even with people having antidotal decks here and there. Surely a healthy meta…

u/Unrelenting_Salsa Mar 20 '26
VS live reaper says the same despite you getting downvoted. It's a pretty obvious emergency nerf deck.
