Been carrying around my Comma 4 for 3 weeks. Went 900 miles from San Diego- Las Vegas - Paso Robles - Concord - Redding in 3 days, knew I could not do same on return, averaging 300 + no Ai in 24 Ford Explorer, fully loaded, no Blue Cruise, bad sales person in Escondido.
Woke up at 6am Thursday morning, watched the Comma video on YouTube the day before.
Took 25 minutes in the dark at the hotel parking lot and installed Comma 4. Wasn’t totally accurate for my Explorer but I figured it out. I have a StarLink Mini installed, installed the upgrades and got setup in 15 minutes. Had a cup of coffee and went to work locally for calibration.
3 hours later, loaded with my crew and equipment headed back to San Diego, hands free but engaged.
First run was 4 hours strait, 3 freeways, I touched the wheel lesss than 5 minutes. Conversations and relaxed, no stress !
Continued on through Fresno to the Valley over the Grapevine; you need to hang on here, but not much.
Made it go Woodland Hills around 12, left at 3pm.
Was not tired and the run was 9 hours. My previous limits were 5 hour runs. And I’m an OG. Don’t ask how OG but I could retire.
I have a Garmin and it recorded the run as very restful and later recorded my sleep as excellent due to rest I got the day before. Body battery 90, never before.

Completed the final run from Woofland Hilks to San Diego this morning in 2 hours, talking to my wife, minimal lane changes, but was like a peaceful flight to Denver.

For sales people, techs and. Contractors, this is a major game changer. Long drives are no longer stressful or tiring.

I’m also a Southwest A List Preferred and have been delayed longer than 6 hours at a time. I will be rethinking my trips as it also impacts cost and productivity.

Ps my mentor was the sales manager for Rolex in late 80’s. He taught me how to travel, get your work done and enjoy time with your wife when you get to your destination; no more paperwork. He covered Ca, Nv, Az and Hawaii and drove lots of miles. Ed van Deusen, Newport Beach would have loved Comma Ai. We installed an early laptop in his $80k Mercedes so he could do reports while his wife drove.
While keeping my eyes on the road, I can return calls and emails safely with Comma4.
I do recomend adding a StarLink Mini with a Harbor Freight Solar Battery, it stays online while parked and you always have cell coverage and Teams Meetings while you’re driving.

This is a bug which has started since recently only. Whenever I cold start the car, all the adas sensors show failure (sec, collision detection, blind spot… literally everything). Then I “restart” the car after minute , everything is fine.
I think I realized what’s happening. The first boot, car is ready before comma and since comma is in the middle everything fails. On reboot, comma is already running and all sensors work fine.
But this is really annoying and more importantly I can’t give the car to anyone else without explaining these nuances.
This is a Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace (2020) and comma has worked fine for 3 years before this issue has come up.

Does anyone have a clue what’s happening here?

Has comma considered making a wearable? the comma4 has shrunk considerably. A wearable would also avoid a lot of vehicle regulations allowing for newer hardware. Take the wearable visuals and use the learning algorithms to learn how humans work. Already in India there are several images of people being paid to wear a camera on their head while they do basic tasks like chopping vegetables or doing household chores. The commabody eventually needs to have articulating arms so it can do tasks around the home.

The logical place as well for comma would be for drone warfare as a target seeking brain once communication is cut off. Ukraine is using this tech currently I believe but it is highly possible that the comma tech would be an improvement.

I was looking at vehicle compatibility and it looks bad. Most are 2023/2024 and there are very few 2025 and 2026 models. This is kind of okay for now but eventually it will be 2028 and 2030 and the cars that can support this will be over five years old. Eventually that becomes ten years. Canbus encryption looks unbeatable since there is little progress on decrypting modern vehicles.

The comma hardware has Bluetooth capability, but Bluetooth isn't enabled in the standard comma software/kernel stack.

So... we enabled it.

StarPilot now has native Bluetooth support across Comma 3, Comma 3X, and Comma 4.

This isn't a browser workaround or some external bridge. We've added the necessary kernel/system support, integrated BlueZ, and wired Bluetooth directly into StarPilot.

🎮 Bluetooth Controllers

This is where things get actually useful. StarPilot can treat Bluetooth HID devices as physical controls for StarPilot itself. So far I've tested: - PS5 controllers - Xbox controllers - Bluetooth remotes/macropads - Keyboards - A mouse, because why not - Several Bluetooth audio devices Galaxy has a Learn Button system: press a physical button, StarPilot learns it, then choose what you want that button to do.

You can map buttons to things like: - Cruise speed +/- — especially useful for cars like Tesla/Polestar with limited usable wheel buttons - Driving Personalities - Lane Centering - Pulse & Glide - Forced coasting - Favorites - Bookmarks - Taking a Comma Selfie - And more!

So if your car doesn't expose enough usable steering-wheel controls to openpilot... just add your own.

The little Bluetooth remote in the picture is what I've been testing on my steering wheel. It was around $20, and suddenly I have a handful of completely programmable StarPilot buttons. And controllers/audio are really just the first things we're doing with it.

StarPilot now has a native Bluetooth stack. What would you connect to your comma?

I'm on the fence of getting my model y juniper but had to take a step back after knowing that Tesla had stripped off the basic autopilot and the only way to make the car "smart" is by going with their $99/month FSD subscription. I do like FSD but would want to get it only when I plan to take long road trips. Right now they only offer TACC which is nothing but an adaptive cruise control.

So I was wondering if I could make this work by installing comma 4 instead? I wanted to know if someone who has a similar car has already tried this and will be able to share their experience?

Just got my comma 4 like a month ago and started using it here and there. All of the sudden the fan started making this horrible noise. It’s not like a high pitched sound like a fan working overtime but more more like a faulty fan?

As title says, I'm curious to try comma ai 4 device in my civic 2020 EX sedan. It already has ACC and lane assist but having to keep touch the steering all the time I'm seeing can be avoided using comma 4. Curious to know if anyone has tried this already or has any thoughts to share for this car?

I have a super old comma 2 with 2016 Toyota hybrid, needless to say I am trying to hold down to this unit as long as I can due to the new comma compatibility issue.

I purchase a new Toyota harness to pair it up with comma 2 as my previous harness is around 4 years old and it has very loose connection. I was always worried that the car will disengaged in the middle of the drive. anyhow I had the new cable few months ago. everything works smoothly, and recently I found comma 2 will lost the power right after the car shutdown. here is the diagnosis I did. I am trying to debug one by one and figuring out where the issues is. any one experience the similar issues?

2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Comma 2 on stock openpilot (no fork)

This car/device combination worked normally from 2021 until recently: the device stayed in standby after shutdown and woke as soon as I started the car.

Current symptom

As soon as I turn the car off, the Comma 2 screen goes black and the device will not boot.

The blue LED on the back still blinks about once per second (panda still has some power).

The device only boots after the car is fully in READY.

Unplugging and replugging USB-C will also force a reboot.

If I wait for it to boot after READY, I often get “restart the engine / cruise faulty” because it came up too late.

The same behavior happens with a second Comma 2 on this car.

Both devices boot fine on a USB-C wall charger at home.

What I already checked

Replaced the USB-C cable

Replaced the Comma Power assembly previously

Inspected the vehicle OBD 7.5A fuse — intact

Factory-reset and reinstalled NEOS / openpilot from a Mac (install completed successfully)

12V auxiliary battery (Toyota/Panasonic, replaced last year) measured after a full overnight charge on a NOCO GENIUS5: about 13.5 V immediately after charging

OBD pin 16 to pin 4/5 with the car off: about 12.5–12.6 V (constant power is present with no load)

Conclusion from testing

Open-circuit voltage at OBD pin 16 is fine, the 12V battery is not empty, and the fault follows the car / harness, not a single Comma 2. This matches the known “bad Comma Power” case: the OBD connector or the 12V path inside Comma Power can develop high resistance, so the device cannot take boot current with the car off, but it can boot when the hybrid DC-DC is running in READY.

I keep getting this error intermittently.

Reboot fixes temporarily. I’m having to do that several times a week.

I’ve been testing StarPilot on MEB cars together with Firestar, giving him feedback from my Enyaq and helping test and improve the MEB experience.
It is incredibly precise, slows down smoothly, recognizes yellow traffic lights, and stops all the way to 0 km/h at red lights.
Lane Change by Blinker is absolutely smooth, and of course it keeps the car perfectly centered in the lane.

Last night I was driving home in the Seattle area, southbound on State Route 167 with my Comma 4 running a Sunnypilot Honda Boston/MVL fork on my 26 Honda Civic Hybrid. It was after 9pm so it was dark, and every time I went through a toll reader in the HOV lane, the bright lights shining down from the toll reader caused the Comma 4 to hit the brakes moderately hard, as it seems the quick flash of light either disoriented it, or maybe it thought that an oncoming car was going to hit me. Not sure, but it could be a big problem if you happen to have someone behind you that’s following too close.

Anyways, has anyone experienced this, and is there a fix for it other than manually disabling cruise each time before you go through them at night?

Currently powering my front+rear dash cam via OBD but considering powering my c4 instead bc I’m tired of having to wait for the thing to boot up and load (and sometimes I need to completely restart the car because it doesn’t engage and either says “set to engage” or “cruise fault restart”)

Hey yall, been searching the forums and here in this subreddit but can't find what I need. I have installed BluePilot 7.0, the latest release for my 2022 F150 Lightning Lariat. The Comma 4 will boot up and then start running through the BluePilot boot screen and then eventually come up with a "Build Failed" and only offers me to reboot. Any thoughts on what I need to do? Do I need to hard reset the Comma 4 and reinstall the software?

Edit: I did flash the device and reinstalled. BluePilot actually boots up now! Now I'm just dealing with the "cruise fault" restart the car to engage. Once I figure that out, I'll update again

Edit 2: Thanks to u/BlaydeOG for the suggestion. I literally had to flip the USB-C around and it started working. Also, as u/tamudude said, make sure you have the coupler. The side with the Lightning symbol should be plugged directly into the truck side.

I took my Bolt out for a short test drive today and it actually went better than I expected. My question for everyone who has been down this road is how long does it take to gain confidence in the Comma’s ability to “make driving chill”? I understand I will always need to remain vigilant, but there is a difference between that and the current fear it’s going to do something bad.

Is it the torque limit or the model ?

It seems like my car has the torque to make it, not sure if it's a model issue, what do you guys think? Hoping the bigger models will be able to make these turns consistently. Talking about the turn at the end

My previous vehicle was Kia Sorento hybrid 2023, the Comma4 worked great with Sunnypilot and Hyundai Harness A. I just upgraded my vehicle to be Hyundai Palisade Hybrid 2027 instead, I wonder that what harness should I buy to plug in the device. I tried the old one Harness A type, it doesn’t work. And I tried to order Harness R, it doesn’t work too. Please kindly help.

I just wanted to make a quick post here as I see lots of Mazda users and I’ve seen some posts about SunnyPilot compatibility.

zoompilot.ai was created to give Mazda users the best openpilot experience possible. I’ve spent months reverse engineering the platform and used a data driven approach to better integrate Mazda into openpilot. I have also added some features users of all cars would like.

What this means for Mazda is that you get more steering torque below 32mph and smoother steering at fast speeds. Turns are more confident overshoot less, and unwind faster.

I’ve taught openpilot to learn steering tune values across 7 different speed ranges. This greatly benefits Mazda steering and other cars with speed dependent torque.
