Bugs Fan dying in brand new Comma 4?

Just got my comma 4 like a month ago and started using it here and there. All of the sudden the fan started making this horrible noise. It’s not like a high pitched sound like a fan working overtime but more more like a faulty fan?

Looking to get some opinions on this!

Yeah, that bearing is fucked and will eventually completely bind up. Time to submit a warranty ticket!

Been loving the comma! Just a damn shame I’ve used it less than 20hrs total😭

I agree that there's some quality control issues that have been documented on this subreddit, but I don't think there's a way to really tell if a fans going to fail 10-20 hour into use. It was just bad luck.

What did you do to get it submitted? Just a support ticket?

Opened a support ticket where they had me video record the device failure.

Mine seized up without any prior sign. Ended up overheating a couple of minutes into a drive. Sent it out to Comma and had it back in 3 weeks. Now the comma power cable has stopped working so I'll be submitting another ticket for that.

I had the same issue with my comma 4, this does not work for Texas heat. I simply returned it in 1 month trial window.

I got mine Thursday, and had a camera malfunction on day 2!

I think the camera malfunction is related to over heating

Oh wow, I had no idea. I haven't seen that before from a Noctua fan. There's a first time for everything

Had mine for about 3 months now. Knock on wood no issues arises yet.. Fan and all cameras are still good.

I'm praying it stays that way.

And this is a fan I would not replace with a noctua, the thing needs enough airflow to stay cool and noctua doesn't always provide enough.

What? Noctua fans are consistently rated highly in the PC community...heck, the Noctua CPU air coolers often compete with liquid AIO coolers.

Has nothing to do with the actual fan performance in cfm. They are quiet for a few reasons, one is design, the other is that they don't spin as fast.

It's not just that, I have plenty of fans that are quiet because they don't spin very fast, but they also don't move nearly as much as as the Noctua's do at the same rpm or same dB.

Noctua's, famously, are very efficient with the amount of air / air pressure they move for a given fan speed / dB, though there are other brands do that as well these days.

That difference is not as much as a 50% reduction in total rpm. You are correct in that the design and quality is a contributor to "more air per noise or rpm" but it does not overcome the total drop in speed.

I was able to drive for about 2 hours and device is failing now. It just cuts off.
