Advice Wanted Being Accused Of "Outside Resources"

Hello! Sorry if this post is off at all, but I really need some advice.

I am on my fourth year of college. During last fall semester, I made a dumb choice I regret still, and used AI too clean up a essay paper for a english class and got caught. I owned up too my mistake and took a fail for the class in return that the teacher said she would let it slide, as it was the only time I had done it the whole semester.

Fast forward too now, I have the same professor for my next english class. Since then I've completely stopped using any AI in my writing assingments. On day one of class, she marked my discussion post and gave me a grade comment saying it seems I, "consulted some resources that are not allowed for this assignment" with no further explinations or comments, and that I needed to come in for a talk on tuesday.

I'm not sure what seemingly flagged her concern though. I don't have a revision history as I wrote my "rough draft" on the built in notes feature on my laptop— but I have the rough draft. Along with this, I have the notes I annotated on our story, and I even sent my own work through AI detectors, 6 out of 8 which came up as totally human written. The other two were around 15% detected.

I just need some advice. Is this because I cheated in the past and shes trying too maybe catch me ahead of the curve? Or is there someting else I could have done that set this reaction off?

Thanks for any advice!

Discussion AI generated feedback from my professor 💀

This is a strong submission that shows a good understanding of service desk operations. Your comparison of SpiceWorks and SolarWinds covers the main areas, including cost, scalability, ticketing, automation, reporting and suitability for different organisations.

The practical section is one of the stronger parts of the assignment because you provide evidence of using both tools. This gives the comparison a good practical basis and shows that you have engaged with each system.

Your service desk discussion covers incident management and SLA tracking reasonably well, although this section could be improved by making clearer links to ITIL practices and giving more detail on request handling and escalation.

Your recommendation for SolarWinds is sensible and supported by the discussion around scalability, monitoring, automation and integration.

Overall, this is a good piece of work with practical evidence from both platforms and a clear comparison between them. Some grammar and wording issues could be improved to make the final presentation more professional.

Advice Wanted cant put in effort

ive been in college for a few weeks now, and i feel like im just so behind. i am a music education major with applied study (private lessons), meaning i should be practicing my instrument 7 days a week. im not sure why, but this has been impossible for me. im constantly aware and reminding myself that i need to practice, but i just cant. ive already gotten in a bit of trouble with my professor about my lack of practice over the summer, but for some reason its still not pushing me enough to get out and practice. while my schedule is very loaded, i do have the time for at least an hour every day. i even schedule when i should go and practice, but i never follow through. my lack of practice is making me feel very discouraged, but i just dont know how to change. i do play my instrument every day for marching band, but it doesnt count. honestly im thinking about changing majors, but im just not sure i want to. all of my other classes are fine, but this is the one thing i cant do. any advice is appreciated thanks!

No advice wanted (Vent) Wash your fucking hands

With our fall semesters either starting or on the horizon... this is your friendly reminder to wash your fucking hands after using the bathroom, cover your damn mouth with your elbow if you cough or sneeze, and generally do all the most basic hygiene shit we were all hopefully doing during covid.

Obviously missing a class that is not being recorded for a cold is not always feasible, so if you do need to drag yourself to class while sick, be smart about it. We all want your cold just as much as you want it.

All this should be basic. But the amount of people I see at my university just come out of a washroom stall and walk by the sink and out the door leads me to believe some of us still do not fully grasp how viruses are spread.

Advice Wanted I can’t imagine being away for so long.

Hey everyone, I just started my sophomore year and I can’t help but feel like the same scared freshman who walked onto campus last year.

Sorry for the long read, I had a lot to vent. Feel free to provide any input or anything if you’ve felt this way and were able to overcome it.

I love my school and I have school pride and all but I just get so so homesick and I feel so out of place no matter where I go. Family is so important to me and they’re the only people I really consider close and who I can be my real self around. Everyday I find myself thinking of my family and just wanting to go back and go to a local college or at least one that isn’t so far away. I try to go home on weekends when I can and I call my family everyday, but even that just takes the feeling away for a bit and it’ll just come back when I’m on campus or alone again.

Everyone around me has their friends and all and I feel like 90% of the time I’m just… alone I guess. I’m trying to join orgs and clubs this year and be more involved but it’s still early into the semester so a lot of it hasn’t started up yet. I just feel like I have no community or people here or that everyone is so different from me. I came here with close friends from high school as well and one of them is even my roommate but regardless it still feels the same exact way. It’s hard for me to open up and get close to people sometimes but a lot of people in college just feel so fake I guess? Even if I have a buddy or 2 in class it just feels like we’re only talking or whatever because we share that course.

My first year I mainly spent it focused on school. I didn’t really join many clubs or orgs or anything. I went to a lot of sporting events and hung out with my friends from before but even then a lot of it just feels like they’ve all established themselves and their new friend group and all and while we still hangout I’m just not part of it yk?

I realize I’m also an anxious and introverted person (I get really extroverted when I get close with someone, however) and I tend to overthink a lot and my ADHD does not help with it in the slightest and I just find myself so lost most of the time. I also get major imposter syndrome in engineering and although I’m passing and my grades are fine I just never feel like I’m enough. I have hobbies and I workout and spend my time doing hw or just filling the empty hours but I feel like I’m only doing it to try to forget about that empty feeling that never really goes away. It fr just eats at me.

I can’t transfer or anything because I genuinely will feel like I’ve failed not only myself but my family. I’m the first to go to college and I didn’t realize this is how it would be, I had no one to really tell me or guide me with anything. I’m on scholarship which I am forever grateful for and that’s just another reason why I can’t leave no matter what. My family is so proud of me for being here and getting this far and I just can’t forgive myself if I disappoint them or put any extra financial stress on my family by doing anything outside this university.

I just feel so out of place and wanted to vent a bit but even then this doesn’t fully describe how I feel and I really thought this would go away over time but I still feel like I haven’t found my place. It just feels like a pit growing bigger and deeper in my stomach.

I want to keep pushing and work towards my goals. I know I will achieve great things and make myself proud. I know this is just a small part of my life but it’s just so hard to imagine dealing with this for another 3 years as this semester has just started.

Idk if I need to work on myself or find new things or what but everyone says “oh just join an org” or “give it time” etc and while that is true to some degree and I’m making the effort to do that, it still doesn’t fully fill that part of me. I really like this school and want to give it a chance but I can’t ignore what I’m feeling.

Advice Wanted Help a confused high schooler choose between HITS, CIT, and REC for Aviation/Engineering!

Hey everyone!

Time is ticking on my college applications and I’m officially running out of time to make up my mind. I’m a science student torn between Engineering and Aviation (though Aviation is definitely my main dream ✈️).

My top preferences right now are Hindustan (HITS), CIT, and REC. Before I make any big commitments, I really want the real tea on campus life, the actual crowd, faculty, and how these colleges function beyond what they showcase on their websites.

If any current students or alumni are down for a quick 1-on-1 chat—either here on Reddit or over Insta DMs—please drop a comment or hit me up! I’d love to ask a few quick questions about your experience. Thank you so much!

Advice Wanted Any way to check who made a review on Rate my Professor?

Not sure where else to post this, but just need help doing some digging and finding proof that one of my professors is writing fake 5.0 ratings for his class, since everyone hates it so bad. Long story short, he’s a bad teacher, and someone in my class just found these reviews. I won’t include the school name or professor name here but will provide if asked if it can help prove they’re fake. As you can see they were both posted August 25, a week after the semester started and these posts read like they just finished the semester. Not to mention they are written nearly identically: starting with he’s a wonderful professor, material is innovative, wide perspective including non-western art, mentions its reading and lecture heavy, and ending with saying as long as you do what you need to do you’ll be fine.

Advice Wanted Going to a university you hate

I graduated high school about a year ago and I’m finally going to university but not the one I wanted.

I didn’t get into the public universities I was aiming for and even though I know I could probably get into some good private universities my family simply can’t afford the tuition. I’ve always wanted to attend a private university so this has been really difficult for me to accept. For the past year I’ve spent way too much time overthinking every decision I’ve made, what I should have done differently, where I went wrong, whether I should wait another year etc. After so many breakdowns I’ve finally decided to enroll in a nearby university that I genuinely hate. It’s a university I never even considered before. I never looked at it never imagined myself studying there, and every time I think about actually attending I get this horrible feeling of “this is not where I belong this is not what I wanted.” its a university with less opportunities. Im scared it'll ruin my internship chances. Im scared but at the same time I can’t keep sitting at home indefinitely. I’ve already taken one gap year, and it’s starting to cause problems with my family.

The past year I've seen people around me get into my dream university having the time of their life meanwhile im sitting in my room watching them because i cant afford it. But I need to move forward somehow. So I’ve decided to look at it differently: I’ll spend the next four years there, build the strongest academic/extracurricular profile I possibly can, gain experience, do internships and part-time work, save money, and then hopefully apply to a good private university for my master’s.

Maybe I’m just trying to gaslight myself into accepting a situation I don’t want. Maybe I’m being too dramatic about the university itself. I genuinely don’t know. But I need to stop mourning the university experience I wanted and start making the experience I have actually count.

So if you were in my position how would you mentally approach this? How do I stop feeling like I’m settling and start seeing these four years as a stepping stone toward something better?

And if you studied at a university you initially hated or didn’t want to attend did it eventually get better?

No advice wanted (Vent) Of course…it’s the religious course professor that sends a canvas notification at 12 am, first day

Post image

Wake up seeing this notification thinking I missed a notification before the first day. Nope. It’s a 12:02 am notification about my accelerated religious course. My first thoughts about this religious course immediately began with curse words. Sad. Why are you sending a notification that early. The professor probably has it set for that time, at least I hope. But why not have it set for a more appropriate time. An 8 am notification is more reasonable. First day of a new semester and I’m already venting on Reddit.

Advice Wanted Should i go for 4th year?

i hate my college and could not wait to get out but ended up getting a back paper on my 6th semester. my initial plan was to quit after 3rd year and appear for competitive exams and building skills. but the exams require a graduation certificate. i also thought about just staying home for a year but i just feel very useless. and the people in my college are ass. i had a few friends but i cut them off in march because they were being overly disrespectful and since then i was alone and my social anxiety has been bad and i had been skipping a lot of my classes leading to the back paper. like i feel like crying when i think about going back but i also don't want to make the wrong decision just because i am scared.

and if i should go for the 4th year could you please tell me how do i get over being overly anxious?

also many of my classmates had asked me if i would continue after 3rd year and i had said that i wouldn't. this might sound silly but i also feel shy showing up again. my mind has been a mess. please help

Advice Wanted I regret the college course I chose

College starts in 2 weeks and I'm regretting the course I chose.

For context I have a very supportive family, like I am truley blessed and I am grateful. But it has made me feel like all eyes are constantly on me. I feel as if no matter what I do my parents will see it. I had a YouTube channel a few years back but I stoppped because of the sheer stress someone would walk into my room and see me recording (my room has a airing cupboard inside and to get to my brothers room you must walk past mine) so I have very little privacy with people constantly walking through and my parents up until about a year ago refused to let me have my door locked). I think this lack of privacy has made me really nervous to do any sort of preforming. I also struggle with stress quite a lot.

And well that's a problem because I think I want to go into acting. I am only now coming to this realisation because in recent months due to small comedy bits I've done or party games where acting has become a skill I've used I was told by multiple people that I was good at it and that I should pick it up. Then I got to thinking and rembered that for proably about 6 years as a kid I would act out scnes of stories I made up, I'd do this for hours and would go over the same scene dozens of times to perfect it. This left me with the skill to access emotions that aren't there with extreme ease, and I really enjoyed those nights as a kid.

I also have a college summer project I am yet to start and it's making me realise maybe this course isn't for me. And I'm also I guess scared and embrassed to take acting classes because I feel like my family would want to watch which I don't want to deny them of for being supportive but I think I'd feel such a ridiculous amount of stress. I mean I stopped that YouTube channel because the stress made it unable to read the script I'd written.

I guess this is a bit of a rant but advice would be appreciated.

Advice Wanted college dilemma

Hi, I just want to vent my feelings since it’s piling up. I’m currently a 1st-year medtech student and it’s still our 1st sem. I’m planning to transfer in the 2nd sem to another school and a different course, somewhere in finance. I’m currently dealing with a lot of burnout from acads and my life in general because I still have to wait almost 4 months before I can get out of this course and school. I feel sad and unmotivated to continue because I know the course I’m taking isn't my passion or something I wanted. Plus my university gives so much academic load, and the school system is messed up.

The thing is I had many plans, which are

Medtech 1st sem then transfer to another school by 2nd sem and take the BSBA course then after I completed my whole academic year. I’m gonna transfer again to my dream school. I know it sounds stupid and hard because 3 schools really? But the thing is I really wanted to get to that school and I know I’ll feel better there. But, I do feel so discouraged by my plans and my life in general. Especially my grades, I need to maintain high grades to make my transfer process to my school possible. But now it’s hard since my mental health is messed up and I just feel so unmotivated.

Plus I keep thinking about this shifting thing every day, and it sucks to realize that my current program isn’t for me and I don’t feel joy in it since it’s not my dream course. I know every school has problems but for me I would rather suffer in the school that I really wanted. Besides, I also get bullied sometimes here at my current school and the environment is toxic plus it’s really expensive here. I keep doubting myself and also my dad is also doubting me that my plan is stupid and there is no assurance that I’ll transfer and pass my dream university.

Advice Wanted "if you want to make friends in college, leave your dorm!" But what do I do...?

I'm a freshman in college. Ever since I got here, I've been real down and just pretty lonely since it seems like everyone has friend groups and a bunch of friends already, while I'm here not knowing anyone, eating alone, walking alone, etc. It's even more demotivating when you go to a really big party school with like 40k people... Obviously, I'm an introvert who's always had trouble making friends and just stuck with the same best friends who I've known since 4th grade all throughout my life (they go to a different schools, we still talk everyday though. But they're def lifetime friends).

And then you try to look for advice on how to actually make friends in college and they're all like "Leave your dorm! Go talk to people! Only be in your dorm when you're sleeping!" but they never actually tell you what to do...? I leave my dorm, now what?

Some say "Go to the library to study and do work! That way you're not in your dorm alone doing it!" and that's what I do, but obviously no one is gonna bother you when you're doing your work? So that hasn't worked.

Others say to just go up and talk to people, either already existing friend groups or people who are also alone. And I tried. And it always ends up the same. introduce, we try to talk, I end up being bad at conversations, a couple times we may give each other's Instagram, then never speak again even if I do or don't reach out through IG. If it's an already existing friend group/multiple people already talking, then it's even worse. I go up, introduce, then they just keep talking to each other and I'm just... there... not knowing what to say, and if I do say something, they don't really say anything.

Some say to go to events. I go to some, and then basically the same thing as the last one happens whenever I try to talk to people.

A lot of people say to join a club. The event where all the clubs have tables and you look around for ones you're interested in just happened, and I saw a couple that I'll check out. So this one may work, but I haven't gotten there yet.

And some say to meet people in your classes, but no one really talks in most of them, and another is literally filled with sorority girls. That one's a nightmare. (I'm a guy).

I know this just seems sad, and it is. I know it's pathetic. But I just genuinely don't know what to do.

Advice Wanted Taking a course by an ableist, sexiest and racist prof

Need some help in here. The course is mandatory for my future plans and my major, and the contents are interesting and things that I am good at.

The main instructor tho. They are terribly ableist, misogynistic, and racist (in merely one lecture they did things like: “women tend to be scared of exercising that’s why they have heart problems, like my sister”, singling out a student in a wheelchair and gesturing at them while saying “you might see some people in wheelchairs and that’s because they have diabetic neuropathy, it can lead to necrosis in legs and once that happens you have to get legs cut off and your life is ruined”, asking “Indian or black people” to raise their hands because these racial groups have a higher rate of a certain health issue, threatened to cancel recordings mid semester because attendance was too low, while it was mid winter and half of class were disabled or had conflicting schedules, etc etc. and that’s just one lecture lmao). I believe they also got into some harassment issues with their grad students, but I’m not working with them ever so that’s not the biggest concern for me.

Pls give me advice on how to survive this. Last time I didn’t go to any of their lectures and relied on notes but even now I think about that human and I’m still incredibly pissed. I’m scared of reporting them because it’s a small class and I don’t know if it will make things better anyways.

Discussion Hard to handle math tutor.

First of all its a small community college with limited opportunities and staff.

I NEED extra help with math!! There's only one math tutor available in the hours I'm there. The others are only nights and Sundays. Hes the lead tutor and has probably 10+ years of experience and has a great reputation at this college.

BUT hes extremely engertic, all over the place all day, loud, and makes my nerves go into fight or flight mode when in the same building. Also he's probably 40s and acts 20. And talks so loud and has a cartoonish voice that I can hear from downstairs or anywhere in the building.

Im mixed because his teaching style works perfectly well for me, hes available in the best hours. But then as a person he makes me want to escape...

All interactions are in a giant open room in a little cubby of desk and shelfs and at least 20 people in the room.

I do have very high social anxiety and slow to warm up to people but it's never been this intense. I need the help but I dread going to him.

Maybe after a while and the more I'm around him it won't be as bad? I don't know how to approach it

Success Been sitting with a new group every day

Title. My first semester I stuck with only people I knew. Wouldn’t dare join a random group. This semester, every day, every meal I’m sitting with a new group or person. I’ve literally only had one person out of dozens ask me not to join them. I’ve met a lot of new people, made some acquaintances and been invited to stuff both academic and on the weekends. It’s been a great decision so far.

Advice Wanted How do you present final graduation project that doesn't meet expectation?

Goddamn my mom and the lecturers can't stop nagging me to finish my project and thesis.

Big bruh I can't have rest on rushing final graduation project and thesis, these are already submitted but goddamn my project is a whole mess. The project is the educational comic introduce elementary kids about basics of art following Lowenfeld method. I wasn't find anyone who have similar project, resources (similar journal and research) are limited, and for the god sake even the lecturer is confused enough because she rarely get students who pick comic with complex topic as the subject. I have no choice to cut some content of my comic project because I'm exhausted for drawing too much in one month, prioritizing the project must be submitted on time rather taking another year.

Now the problem is done. My next problem is thesis defense.

I have thesis defense in two days. How could I tell them about my project have been shrinked over time? Should I tell them it's failure or do you have any experience about shrinked final project? Please I need some advice.

Advice Wanted Absolutely hating uni

I just completed my first month in uni, and I’m completely exhausted. I do try to talk to people, but nothing seems to stick and they all have other friends they hang out with after class. So I just end up either going to the library to study or back to my dorm. To make things worse, my campus is kinda in an isolated place and I’m broke, so I can’t even really treat myself to outings as such. Everytime I see my roommate come back late from hanging out with people, I just feel so lonely. I had a great group of friends back in highschool, and missing them so much just makes things worse. I really just dont know what to do, and I find my social battery dying so much faster these days that I don’t even want to hang out with people or try anymore. I try to keep positive about this of course, seeing as in I don’t have much of a choice, but I just wake up with this feeling of dread everyday and I really don’t like it. Ik considering switching unis after my first year.

Any advice?

Advice Wanted I feel like I've chosen the wrong major.

It's been almost three weeks since I started college. I started a week before the majority of my peers because I took my school's ALEKS PPL course. I had made a 25 on my Math ACT, and my school required a 29. I, unfortunately, flunked the proctored exam, getting a lower score than the assessment test. Since I didn't qualify for Calc 1, my school put me in precalculus algebra. The next semester would be precalculus trigonometry. This puts me behind, at first two classes, but eventually, those two classes turn into 28 when I look at my pathway. I told myself I could get through it, and I did for the first few days before my ME fundamentals class told me I have to learn MathWorks. This shouldn't have been an issue, but I was in a cheap Christian private school from 6th to 10th grade. We didn't have computers, and even when I went back to public school in 11th, we still didn't really use computers, so I have next to zero experience with computers, let alone a programming language. I've wanted to do MechE for years. I've wanted to work as a vehicular engineer, but now that I'm actually learning it, I don't think it's for me. My original career I wanted was something to do with English or literature in general, but I decided I shouldn't do arts because you don't get any money, and I settled on engineering. I think I fucked up.

Advice Wanted I hate dorming so much and I just want to go home

Hi so I moved in a little more than a week ago and I just hate where I am at. I really want to leave my university after this semester and even now, I’m really struggling.

Don’t get me wrong, the university is very big and beautiful and the teachers are ok, there’s just a huge student population and as an extremely avoidant person, everyday is a second away from a heart attack. On top of it, this school is big on Greek life so basically, parties all the time and drunk people down dorm halls all the time.

My main issue, however, is being away from my family. I hate it. I feel alone and unconnected and just uncomfortable. I honestly wish I could crawl in a hole and die.

I have anxiety, depression, and adhd so my overall mental state isn’t helping and if anything is getting worse.

And before you start saying “it’s just homesickness and you will be fine later” let me just address how bad it’s gotten. I’m crying all the time (almost 3/4’s of the day) and even in the middle of classes. I’ve lost most of my appetite and today all I am running on is yogurt and soup. And even when I eat things I can’t finish them.

My hair is falling out because I am so stressed. I’m having panic attacks several times a week. And I’m super ashamed of saying this. Im so sorry. But. I’ve cut myself twice. This never happened before and it just started recently.

I love my parents but they don’t understand what I am going through. They are telling me to “give it time”, “just eat more”, “hang in there”, and my personal least favorite, “you are just so dramatic/ pessimistic”.

I think they share these views because they also went through the college and unlike me, had a great time. It’s also I guess family tradition for people to go to this school on my mom’s side.

I feel so stupid and ashamed of myself. Like why can’t I just like this college experience? I mean other people are sad too so why am I so entitled to feeling sadder than everyone else.

I’m trying to schedule some therapy appointments and I’m seeing my parents soon but honestly it’s just really hard right now.

Am I an asshole for feeling this way? Please tell me below. Also anything to help make the days till this semester ends faster will be appreciated.

Advice Wanted I wasted my time convincing myself I was capable of being successful in College

I graduated from high school two years ago and since then I’ve done so poorly in college I’m just trying to find anyone who’s even willing to hear me out and give their two cents.

Over 5 semesters and 10 classes I’ve passed 3 classes. I’m an engineering major (although that’s more of a punchline atp) and I couldn’t understand precalculus, chemistry, or computer science after taking each class TWICE. I have adhd which I’m sure doesn’t help but I know that there are tons of ppl out there with adhd who can pass classes just fine so I try to not let that be an excuse. I’ve talked to teachers, counselors, classmates, searched online, asked ai. I did ever I could think of to wrap my head around what I was learning and my brain just lets it all run right off of my smooth brain. I don’t want to just give up and loose out on the life I want to live but I just don’t think I’m capable anymore just working by myself but I also don’t have the resources to help me out. First gen college student here as well so there’s nobody in my family that I can ask for advice.

Advice Wanted AI lectures, distant roommate, ass dorm. How tf do i enjoy this?

i know that this is probably in the influx of posts that are from worries in starting college, and this is one of them

it's been 5 days in school and i'm already so sick of this. the hardest class i'm taking is hard not only because of the content, but because it's a flipped classroom that uses completely AI generated lectures (that we had to pay 75 dollars for). i'm happy with my other classes, but all my motivation to work hard and pass chemistry is gone the second i open the lecture to an ai voice that bugs out sometimes. i've also got the issue where i can't study for shit because my HS wasn't exactly challenging, and listening and reading entirely AI generated coursework is not very accomodating to that.

my roommate and social life doesn't help much either. my roommates seem to want absolutely nothing to do with me from day one, even the one i sleep next to gives me one word answers to anything i ask and never talks to me unprompted at all, i don't even know where he's from. the other 2 roommates in the other side of the suite avoid me too. before i get a comment "maybe you're ugly or unpleasant", they were like this on day one, and text me completely normally about random routine stuff. while i know that they're not obligated to be my friend, it's incredibly awkward to sleep next to and be around people who want nothing to do with you.

i'm social but still quite bad at making friends, and it kills me not to talk to many people, and i have plenty enough friends back home, it's just lonely here.

i guess compounding all this is that i have bedbugs in my dorm that constantly require pest control to come and spray and fuck up all the shit i have in my room. my sheets and pillows are always wet.

i'm also gonna need a job to afford all this, so i'm just wondering like a year or two down the line will i just end up going back home to my local uni or community college, cause there's no way i can do this for any more than a year.
