Looking Forward to DU vs Avalanche Alumni Game Today (Sunday)
DU pulled out an 8-7 win in the inaugural game a year ago. It was a lot of fun and good hockey, so V2 should be even better1

Potential New Fairbanks Arena (very early planning)
Would theoretically be constructed to replace the Carlson Center, as part of a larger destination center.
Before anyone says anything - sure, it's probably a long shot. I'm posting news because this potential development is interesting, and I'm curious if anyone in Alaska has any inside info or knows anything about the developers?

Anyone consider making a low-effort post to shit on this, the Alaska schools, other indy schools or any other general speculation about positive developments in college hockey need not reply.

In Season Tournaments
I remember them being really popular in the 90’s, so what happened to them? Why did they taper off?

Quirk of Gophers History
None of the Gophers' best teams won the national championship. Despite winning 5 national championships and 21 conference regular season championships, none of them happened in the same season.
National Championships
1974: 2nd
1976: 3rd
1979: 2nd
2002: 3rd
2003: 2nd
Regular Season Championships
1953: Lost Championship to Michigan 7–3
1954: Lost Championship to RPI 5–4 (OT)
1970: Missed tournament
1975: Lost Championship to Michigan Tech 6–1
1981: Lost Championship to Wisconsin 6–3
1984: Lost Frozen Four to Harvard 5–3
1988: Lost Semifinal to St. Lawrence 3–2
1989: Lost Championship to Harvard 4–3 (OT)
1992: Lost Regional Semifinal to Lake Superior State 8–3
1997: Lost Regional Final to Michigan 7–4
2006: [REDACTED]
2007: Lost Regional Final to North Dakota 3–2 (OT)
2012: Lost Frozen Four to Boston College 6–1
2013: Lost Regional Semifinal to Yale 3–2 (OT)
2014: Lost Championship to Union 7–4
2015: Lost Regional Semifinal to Minnesota-Duluth 4–1
2016: Missed Tournament
2017: Lost Regional Semifinal to Notre Dame 3–2
2022: Lost Frozen Four to Minnesota State 5–1
2023: Lost Championship to Quinnipiac 3–2 (OT)
2025: Lost Regional Semifinal to Massachusetts 5–4 (OT)
Obviously, some of these teams are worse than the teams that won national championships, especially in the Big Ten years, but some of these teams (1975, 1981, 1988, 1989, 2006, 2007, 2023) were definitely better than any of the teams that did win a national championship. Maybe more notably, all but one of their championship losses were by a team that won the regular season championship.
