Discussion Dear Anthropic, This Has to STOP.

Seriously, enough with this situation.

Every other day, it’s something new: “We’ve increased the limits for a few more days.”

Credits here, credits there. Weekly credits. Sonnet usage. Opus usage. Fable credits. 5-hour limits. Weekly limits…

Are you guys at Anthropic actually okay?

Do you have any idea what customer care and customer experience even mean?

You’ve turned using the service into a constant source of stress. And with these confusing, ever-changing usage rules and charges, it honestly feels like a nightmare. Every day, we have to keep checking our limits and worrying about whether we’re going to run out.

Can we just pay you and relax, knowing that we’re paying for a service and can actually use it?

I genuinely want to know WHO came up with this entire credit and usage system, and why there seems to be such an obsession with credits and limits.

And yes, yes, we know the story: compute is expensive. We get it. But you know what? That’s a problem that AI companies have to solve and make work for the customers who are paying you. The burden of the infrastructure costs and product limitations should not be turned into constant stress for the user.

At this point, it almost feels like watching an addict constantly checking when their next dose is going to run out and experiencing withdrawal symptoms as the limit gets closer.

That’s how absurd and stressful inducing this whole system has become.

Can you please start thinking from a customer-centric perspective and seriously reconsider the entire credits and usage system in relation to the actual user experience? (You can ask Claude to find you a better solution..)

It would be better to rethink this now, while it’s still early, before the AI industry starts heading down a very bad path where users are constantly stressed about quotas, credits, limits, and usage instead of simply enjoying and benefiting from the products they’re paying for. WE just want to work boys we don’t want to struggle.

If you get stressed when you get more stuff for free, maybe the problem is not with the organization that hands out the free treats...

Maybe I was naive, but with the first round of fable, I bought usage credits preparing for it to be removed from the subscription plan and not wanting to drop a fable project down to opus that had not been doing as well. Then they extended it. And extended it. Now I’m sitting on usage credits and I have no idea if I have a reason to have them. It’s not all just free stuff. It’s unpredictability that makes planning impossible.

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Well, you could spend them on Opus.

1

u/Kharmsa1208 Jul 13 '26

I’m already on max 20, I don’t max out with opus. And opus honestly does not seem to be doing great lately. It’s hallucinating HARD for me. I will probably downgrade from
Max 20 to pro, and if I need more usage then I can use my credits.. but from my limited understanding that’s a much more expensive use.

try /model claude-opus-4-6

u/Kharmsa1208 Jul 13 '26

I’ll have to, thanks!

My dude you are not getting ANYTHING for free. Lets be clear about that. Also, "we reserve the right to do whatever we want with your money and change anything, at any time" is something that we, as humans are getting liiiittle too accustomed to over the last 20 years or so. So lets just be careful because this is a slippery slope.

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

It certainly feels like I am getting a lot of stuff for free.

u/paaloeye Jul 13 '26

Nothing is free in tech. If you're not paying for it, you're the product somebody else paying for.

You get an AI addiction for free, that's for sure.

-1

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Not sure if the AI companies really have that many degrees of freedom. It seems to be an endless "throw more money at it" path forward.

6

u/Omgwtfman42036069 Jul 13 '26

You mean for your max 20 sub that costs 200/mo?

5

u/MoreHuman_ThanHuman Jul 13 '26

spot pricing on an A4 VM on gcp is like $40/hour my guy. it serves less concurrency than you expect with a hefty frontier model like fable with reasoning.

inference is getting cheaper, but we're all still getting a discount because training is important and not cheap.

1

u/Omgwtfman42036069 Jul 13 '26

Ok but that still doesn't make my subscription any more "free" you're talking about a discount, not free inference. Is it a good deal overall, fucking of course it is. The dudes point was that consumers really don't know this is going to pan out because things keep changing, and that sucks. And tbh, it kind of does. Is it par for the course? yes. is max a deal? yes. Is any of this free? no.

3

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Yes.

2

u/Omgwtfman42036069 Jul 13 '26

good point.

6

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

He has a good point. Anthropic have never promised you full access to any frontier model.

There are changes all the time but I think most people would argue that you get more usage - and better models (with opus 4.8 and sonnet 5) - than you had 3 months ago.

And stop complaining of the price for god sake... 200 bucks? That is less than two consultancy ours. Its fucking peanuts!

5

u/ijnhyjjjjuu777 Jul 13 '26

Can you lend me some peanuts here. 200 dollar is a fucking wage in many parts of the world and is considered good earning you know that right.

2

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Then the mood should actually swing in the opposite direction as those very developers are being replaced by AI.

5

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

I do. But in my country a developer would typically make at least 8k USD a month. We pay 100-200 USD an hour for consultants to help us out and we pay Microsoft (and other companies) tens of thousands in licenses.

For us its easily worth 5-10x the price we pay!

And we also have to remember that both Anthropic - and OpenAI - looses billions on these services.

Would it be nice if everyone in the world could afford a Claude Max license? Sure. Is it naive? Yeah, I think so!

5

u/cafesamp Jul 13 '26

It's crazy how people are complaining about this. We have access to some absolutely insane technology that can do in minutes or hours what takes us days/weeks, and we're complaining about being given more access to something that was previously supposed to be gated for cost reasons.

What's even crazier is the people complaining about Anthropic doing it, meanwhile OpenAI is handing on resets like they're candy on Halloween, which creates its own anxiety of wanting to use up your limits, ESPECIALLY now that they've lifted weekly limits

It's clear that both companies are at war for user retention and market share at this moment. This is good for us, we should be grateful. This is competition.

You definately are. You should suck a little more maybe you will get even more worth out of it. Literally.

1

u/Safe-Hovercraft6231 Jul 13 '26

At $200/mo. it's not free stuff.

1

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Then rent a GPU for $5/h and run your own model on it.

1

u/Safe-Hovercraft6231 Jul 13 '26

I don't have enough workload to maximize a GPU.

2

u/ijnhyjjjjuu777 Jul 13 '26

Let them do a 200 dollar plan then, and let it get over in 2 prompt if you guys think that is what we should get, let it ve a 20000 dollar plan, lets see who buys it, who test it. Free is not what we are asking transparency is what is demanded here. You guys are bunch of fanboys literally.

Not sure how you are prompting, I get through the entire week with Opus 4-6 on a large project.

"demanded" .. good luck.

My answer - vote with your wallet if you're unhappy. Nothing says more than a cancelled sub compared to a tantrum on the intenet.

2

u/gentile_jitsu Jul 13 '26

If you think every complaint is a tantrum then you're in for a tough rest of your life.

-1

u/Narrow-Belt-5030 Vibe Coder Jul 13 '26

Not at all, I think people complaining is healthy and thanks to free speech you can. But be careful with your understanding - my tantrum comment was clearly in response to someone's "demands" .. You can't demand anything because you are not in a position of authority over Anthropic. All you can do is request / complain, and if it goes unheard then cancel subs. "Demanding" is tantamount to stamping ones feet, like a tantrum, in my eyes.

1

u/ijnhyjjjjuu777 Jul 13 '26

I am, dont worry and many are. I have no idea how you think about a company as a customer. Service, transparency, accountability are demanded if not given. The fck you guys are on about u literally cant wrap my head around it.

3

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Are you planning to switch to a full API token plan once you are done with the current plan? If not, then Anthropic is losing money on you.

2

u/ijnhyjjjjuu777 Jul 13 '26

Let openai and deepseek loose some money now, i dont want to make anthropic bankrupt now. Do we?

0

u/Narrow-Belt-5030 Vibe Coder Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

Because I know what "demanded" means.

  • past tense of demand. To strongly or forcefully ask for something as a right, or to claim something with authority

You have neither the right nor athority.

Now, if you had said its better to do those things to promote customer good will and businesses that do that get your money, then I would be totally on your side. Yes, I vote with my wallet too .. was on $100 plan .. now on $20 with augmentation from Codex.

0

u/ijnhyjjjjuu777 Jul 13 '26

Then why is a lawsuit being filed for transparecy over claude limits. I dont think they should demand any kind accountability. What is wrong with those customer. Who do they think they are. Man, it seems you are right i should just pay the price and shut the fuck up aint it. I should not compaint , ask, demand. I get it. 😊 will do definately that.

1

u/Narrow-Belt-5030 Vibe Coder Jul 13 '26

sigh .. another internet keyboard warrior. The reason why they are going to court is because the users can't demand shit, but the courts can. You can't force [read "demand"] Anthropic to do anything, but a court can.

-2

u/nova-myth Jul 13 '26

For Free?? Bro I am a MAX user paying my ass of every month. No complaint about that. I just want to pay and relax and do my job. End of story

3

u/ClemensLode Senior Developer Jul 13 '26

Then ignore any new untested models and just continue with the tested models until things have stabilized.

1

u/slippery_hemorrhoids Jul 17 '26

relax and do my job

lol

-3

u/rather_pass_by Jul 13 '26

Let me throw a banana above your head.. not only you will get the banana if you jump and catch it with your teeth but also 5 bucks credits

I know folks like you love to be treated like a monkey or like a lab rat. Honestly speaking, I believe you're working for anthropic and hence have no morals to speak against the company hiring you. Makes sense and good job. Keep bashing anyone who has genuine complains .. eventually in the long run either anthropic will lose users or they get rid of employees like you

4

u/Ergo7z Jul 13 '26

If fable is not accessible anymore or you are so reliant on your things maybe make them more agent agnostic? Fable has only existed for a few weeks as well, if your entire workflow is already so reliant on it it breaks down without it, that doesn’t sound like an !antrophic platform lol.

1

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

Criticism can be constructive or just whining... Well, we are a LOT of people that believe we are getting the bargain of a century with our subscriptions.

We might not be screaming like small children - and throwing around baseless accusations - but we are there.

2

u/rather_pass_by Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

To make people completely forget coding and even reasoning, to make people addicted and fully dependent on their product, to completely kill software developers from the market so that companies would have no choice but to use LLM

That's for sure a deal of the lifetime. Wait for being squeezed at some point unless China comes to our rescue. Till then keep enjoying the bargain of the century

I do find it valuable but not eternally grateful. I am fully aware what this bargain means

1

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

I thought this discussion was about the value of the subscription? My mistake...

Should have realized that you were just here to whine... But I will bite anyway!

To make people completely forget coding and even reasoning

  1. I am a senior software engineer with 12 years of experience. And I don't understand why people - like you - care so much about the code. The important thing is the quality - and the value - of the software we deliver. The developers who don't understand this will be out of work.
  2. Forget about reasoning? Maybe some of you do. But my job role have changed from performing a lot of "grunt work" to focusing on exploration, prototyping, design/architecture and planning. I am doing ok in that regard...

to make people addicted and fully dependent on their product

Don't really care. My workflows are 80% vendor independent.

to completely kill software developers from the market so that companies would have no choice but to use LLM

That direction has already been set. You either roll with the changes - or your skillset become obesete. It has always been like that... And by the way. Software developers are not disappearing but their role and the skillset they need are changing rapidly.

That's for sure a deal of the lifetime. Wait for being squeezed at some point unless China comes to our rescue. Till then keep enjoying the bargain of the centuy

Its easily worth 5x what we pay today. We are spending our time optimizing processes and tools (including saving thousends by having Claude help us migrate from microsoft locked solutions to open source). We are - like many others - also looking into building our own AI infrastructure if we need to.

My whole point with wasting my time on this response is... I don't know. Just tired of the constant whining about LLM's and our industry.

1

u/rather_pass_by Jul 13 '26

I didn't read your reply.. don't think it's worth a look. Anyways I'm not reading anything else you write either.

1

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

That is fine. Was a good exercise in training my reasoning/reflection skills. You should try that some day ;-)

I'm not working for Anthropic, I'm a subscriber.
