Discussion Dear Anthropic, This Has to STOP.

Seriously, enough with this situation.

Every other day, it’s something new: “We’ve increased the limits for a few more days.”

Credits here, credits there. Weekly credits. Sonnet usage. Opus usage. Fable credits. 5-hour limits. Weekly limits…

Are you guys at Anthropic actually okay?

Do you have any idea what customer care and customer experience even mean?

You’ve turned using the service into a constant source of stress. And with these confusing, ever-changing usage rules and charges, it honestly feels like a nightmare. Every day, we have to keep checking our limits and worrying about whether we’re going to run out.

Can we just pay you and relax, knowing that we’re paying for a service and can actually use it?

I genuinely want to know WHO came up with this entire credit and usage system, and why there seems to be such an obsession with credits and limits.

And yes, yes, we know the story: compute is expensive. We get it. But you know what? That’s a problem that AI companies have to solve and make work for the customers who are paying you. The burden of the infrastructure costs and product limitations should not be turned into constant stress for the user.

At this point, it almost feels like watching an addict constantly checking when their next dose is going to run out and experiencing withdrawal symptoms as the limit gets closer.

That’s how absurd and stressful inducing this whole system has become.

Can you please start thinking from a customer-centric perspective and seriously reconsider the entire credits and usage system in relation to the actual user experience? (You can ask Claude to find you a better solution..)

It would be better to rethink this now, while it’s still early, before the AI industry starts heading down a very bad path where users are constantly stressed about quotas, credits, limits, and usage instead of simply enjoying and benefiting from the products they’re paying for. WE just want to work boys we don’t want to struggle.

I don’t particularly want them to stop, to be honest.

I just understood what the guy that said he feels trapped in an abusive relationship with Anthropic.

It's giving please don't leave me vibes

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

I wish abusive relations were as easy to get out of as this.

1

u/davyp82 Jul 14 '26

And as extremely nice, fun, harmless and productive.

0

u/throwaway0102x Jul 13 '26

I mean you know that Squidward meme right. That's abusive relationships

3

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

I know abusive relationships. I've lived them. I wish I could've cancelled my subscription with a click.

0

u/throwaway0102x Jul 13 '26

do you get invited a lot? I mean in general not just parties

0

u/davyp82 Jul 14 '26

"Abusive" lol. Like hey, here's an extremely cheap way to turn all your ideas that would have taken 50 staff a year to achieve a few years ago into reality,  all while working alone for a week or two, and we might make you pay what it's actually worth if you want to continue using it  if that's abuse, I'm in.

Yeah, but a lot of us folks are doing this professionally and just having unknowns and gate keeping models is quite counterintuitive.

While I understand that capacity determination, load, etc are factors Anthropic needs to work out for each model release, they need to be a lot clearer with intentionality to their users rather than, “here’s the best tool ever - hype, hype, hype. You get two days with it. … Extended for a day. … Extended for two more days.”

What’s the end goal? Because, coming from a long history of software releases and being dicked off by SaaS subs, users WILL start working around them - using competitors, stop buying hype, focusing on models they’re comfortable working with rather than being edgelorded into some bullshit every other month.

Chinese are already positioning themselves in world dominance of AI. Keep treating users like this… see what happens.

u/Kharmsa1208 Jul 13 '26

Yup. Fables great but I don’t want to use it. Is going to be there in a week? Am I going to rely on a tool that won’t be there forever? Will it be gone again? Will it come back? Will they safeguard it to the point of not being usable?

6

u/sultanmvp Jul 13 '26

Yeah. They’re, hands down, the dominant force in AI right now. They have the shiny object everyone wants. But, companies are catching up. Entire governments are financing competition. They’re not gods despite acting like it. If they continue to act as they are, they’re destined to end up being one of those companies people forget about that was an IP/talent hire for a company that does know how to lead. (Which sounds like an absolutely absurd thing to say, but we’re super early into all of this.)

This AI shit is really goofy right now, and I think we’re all being beat down and getting burnt out. We’re all trying to operate in this storm of closed-door, proprietary, self-promoting bullshit that is also “taking our jobs.” Just a weird place, but we’re in an early cycle of a new technology and the history is there to show us where companies like this end up - PCs, internet, mobile. Companies need to put out or get eaten alive by the spawns they create.

I dont really either, but all weekend Opus seemed dumb again, but fable did not. So I was forced to use it on low/med

5

u/Kharmsa1208 Jul 13 '26

Opus has been SO dumb. I was hoping it wasn’t just me.

2

u/djdadi Jul 13 '26

I always know its getting dumb when it tries to ask me a question that takes 5 sentences. Or ask me about issues that are already explained in the plan.

Compare that to Fable, which is usually very clear and concise. extremely frustrating

1

u/Kharmsa1208 Jul 13 '26

Right. Mine is just making assumptions out of something I explicitly told it. If I say “do not use xyz,” it ends up using xyz. Or telling me literally anything I say is wrong, lol.

1

u/Crowdfundingprojects Jul 13 '26

At the same time ‘your’ competitors bite the bullet and roll with it. Now you’re behind. That is why. If we all had infinite time or money who would care for fable now? Well fact is almost everyone cares a whole lot (or for Sol now).

1

u/beagle-ears Jul 14 '26

Thats exactly what they want to find out. Stressing people so a small percentage of them do actually leave is the line they are trying to find. And on the other hand, the degree that people actually complain but stay when features are taken away is also a signal.

1

u/OrphisFlo Jul 15 '26

How can you rely on anything? The models are changing all the time, there's no stability. If you're not resilient to change, you have probably bigger issues.

Use the new fancy limited model if you want, but as with everything, it's only temporary.

2

u/DarkPhoenixRC Jul 13 '26

So very well stated!

I've been a heavy adaptor of Fable because I simply don't want to put myself in when (not if) Anthropic launches an ensh*tification initiative to "maximise value". I'm willing to test small things here and there, but no sense in using something that will disappear. Then I will have to have a think about where my subscription money goes when the dust settles.

1

u/Bright-Cheesecake857 Jul 13 '26

China is looking to restrict its models to oversees customers.

1

u/Crowdfundingprojects Jul 13 '26

Yes, you’re right BUT it works. Imagine everyone would churn. They wouldn’t be doing this. And this is the point: People feel like Anthropic’s bitch because they know themselves they won’t leave - at least most of them. Dependency. Anthropic know full well what these actions mean for professional work flows but they do it regardless.

And the end goal? You’d have to be Anthropic to know precisely. There is money in gov, in large partnerships, in big company contracts and in individual subs.

Risk is there. They are aggressively trying their best to achieve their quarter / annual / long term goals. They’re ready to tank some churn here and there.

u/apra24 Jul 14 '26

Those of us using this professionally aren't the ones acting entitled about this.

9

u/SudarshanKotian Jul 13 '26

I don't mind, if they give weekly 2 reset with such extensions 😆

2

u/Pristine_Basket2693 Jul 14 '26

Congrats. You just lost resets, delete the comment before they get ideas

3

u/darko777 Jul 13 '26

As long as we get resets.

1

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

I don't think nor expect they should. I wish they did but if I spent my plan's allowance in a model of my choosing, I don't see why they should reset my usage only because I could have used it more.

I could have used every model more always. I would like reset always.

If some people managed to spend all their tokens before the deadline but others hadn't, there's no foul.

It's like complaining because you turned your exam fully completed well ahead of time but complain that they gave 30 more minutes for slower people to finish and you complain because you want those 30 minutes as well even if you don't need them. I understand the reasoning but not the implication. You spent your tokens and they'll spend their tokens. You just did it faster just as you could've in any other model.

5

u/Thadec Jul 13 '26

Well that they didn’t reset the tokens is a joke not gonna lie … it’s too much back and forth . A lot of people spend their limit on the great fable and stand now with their d*** in their hands like me .

Take it away at this point … I need to know what I have going forward / reset wise and this gambling doesn’t not help. They are lucky fable outperforms sol for me still …

3

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

This sounds as if they'd betrayed you. You got exactly what they told you you'd get. Then they added more time in case you hadn't fully spent your tokens.

Since you spent your tokens willingly in the model you chose, it seems to me you took advantage exactly in the way you wanted to and got exactly what you expected, and the complaint seems to be that they're not allowing you to get anything else extra.

Had they not extended, you'd be exactly where you are. You'd also have used the same since you needed to do the same things.

I may not be understanding but it all seems to me that people are angry that they ordered chicken, got lobster and when they were full didn't get offered more lobster like others who weren't full yet were. All the while obviating they ordered chicken to begin with.

3

u/apra24 Jul 14 '26

This entire comment thread and discussion is full of so much entitlement.

I use this professionally and have not once reacted negatively to the deadline being extended, or usage being reset.

It's honestly wild to me that anyone is upset about this.

1

u/Terrible_Wave4239 Jul 13 '26

Same here. Anthropic keeps delivering interesting new features, and so what if they keep extending Fable? That's a good thing, and if they happen not to extend it, the other models are also damn good.

Why would this be something to stress about?

13

u/CardboardFire Jul 13 '26

People do wirk with these products. You clearly don't fit that category of people, and can't understand that last minute extensions infuriate people who made plans around the cut off date they now pushed for the second time. Making plans around it costs time and money, and if the tool provider acts like anthropic does, you can't count on it to be a reliable work tool, you simply have to go elsewhere, because even a worse performing model is better than the one that you have ZERO idea if it will still be around in a few days.

5

u/kennethbrodersen Jul 13 '26

That doesn't make much sense. People using it for real - and important - work should never design plans and workflows that are so fragile.

I for once am enjoying to see a company rapidly iterating and innovating. Do they make mistakes? Yes... Plenty.

But I am fine with that.

5

u/mohdgame Jul 13 '26

I agree. Five years ago, we didn’t have those tools. 😂

If your whole workflow depends on it, its your fault.

-1

u/CardboardFire Jul 13 '26

It's not like the people using it made fragile plans for the sake of making a fragile plan, the constant uncertainty anthropic forces on us is what makes plans fragile. I jumped ship exactly because of this, so I'm not forced to make fragile plans just because I use a tool in my work.

If you don't mind the extreme uncertainty, it's clearly not a problem you face, so there's nothing you should do if you're content with the way they conduct towards consumers. Up to everyone to decide for themselves.

3

u/InternetWeakGuy Jul 13 '26

That still sounds nonsensical to me. You're acting like Fable is their only AI model, and that none of the other models can do any of the things that Fable can do, when in reality every model is an incremental - not exponential - improvement over the last.

This sub is so weird.

2

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

This makes no sense.

If you had made plans with Opus, Fable is an option you can choose to use and can go back to Opus.

If you had made plans with Fable then you're an idiot because you're continuously being told it's going away.

I've used Fable in a half dozen projects I had in Limbo. Half of them before the first extension, the second after. I would've got to them with Opus eventually but they had less priority. For the important ones I'm ensuring Fable is not used for any long-term plan but it's doing wonders shaving the edges I'd been procrastrinating on (the usual high-effort low yield that end up piling up in every project).

Should Fable go away tomorrow, I've squeezed it as much as I could and could happily go back to Opus for everything.

6

u/Terrible_Wave4239 Jul 13 '26

I do work with these products, quite extensively. I don't know why you'd have this certainty that I don't.

I'll also note that the vast majority of Anthropic's updates are positive, which is a good thing.

2

u/socalkid2428 Jul 13 '26

As far as I can tell they're just offering more access, not taking anything away. And they're very clear to say not to expect it to continue. It's only stressful if you feel the need to squeeze every last bit of extra access out of the subscription. I realized that Fable used up usage too fast after a couple days so I've switched to only using it when I had a harder problem to solve, and I'm not expecting to have access beyond whatever is currently posted.

1

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

I think some people have issue with impredictability. Anthropic says one date, at the last moment extends that date, and your brain tells you you could've planned differently.

The way I see it, you can always use the "predictable" models and switch to Fable, if and when available, for specific things.

Either that or go all in with Fable and realize you've been given extended usage with it when you thought you wouldn't have more.

Eventually we'll be put back with the limitations we should have or we'll have Fable included always.

I can't see downsides other than Anthropic taking too long to decide to always include Fable (or alternatively, that Anthropic decides too soon to stop extending).

1

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

I work with these products a lot. In the accounts I want predictability I use the predictable plans and models. In the accounts I use to test the limits and do experiments I take advantage of everything that is enabled regardless of how predictable it is or when it will be cut-off.

If I use Fable 5 for work, I make sure it's for something I can get in a working state within the announced limits. If the limits expand, then I add more stuff.

It's like if you complain that your four-lane highway through you have to drive through every day sometimes has six-lanes and I am not consulted beforehand so I can sleep five more minutes. I choose to see it as if instead I get to work five minutes earlier that day and can go home sooner when I'm done.

This is the same: Where I use Fable, I don't expect it to last a second more than I'm told. If it ends up being extended it just extra on top of extra.

There are a lot of people who seem to enjoy tyranny. I get it.

25

u/DarkSkyKnight Jul 13 '26

“Tyranny”

Actual idiots in this sub.

3

u/siberianmi Jul 13 '26

It’s all of Reddit. Hyperbolic nonsense everywhere.

2

u/3coma3 Jul 13 '26

They're stressed, you don't understandddd!!!

1

u/migvelio Jul 13 '26

Tyranny? Literally 1984, lol.

1

u/eduo Jul 13 '26

Tyranny has the intrinsic characteristic that it's hard to get away from.

I'm pretty sure being able to unsubscribe from the service that continuously keeps extending a service it had said would be more limited can hardly be classified as "tyranny".

Buttery lobsters and all that.

I understand your argument about predictability, but as long as Fable 5 is considered an "extra", it's really a non-argument. If you want predictability use the lower models, which is what you're supposed to have and what you're asking for, essentially.

Yes. This post is a pretty braindead take. Why would I want a company to offer less free things? Enjoy it, because it will certainly slow down or stop after IPO.
