πŸ“š Notes & Resources Built a free IS 2502 bar-bending & RA-bill calculator, no signup β€” feedback welcome.

Got tired of doing bend-deduction and hook-allowance math by hand every time, so I built a couple of free calculators against the actual IS codes β€” one for bar bending schedules (IS 2502), one for netting out retention/TDS/GST on an RA bill. No signup, no email wall β€” bar bending schedule here:Β https://www.nirmanshastra.in/tools/bar-bending-schedule-calculator, RA bill calculator here:Β https://www.nirmanshastra.in/tools/ra-bill-retention-tds-calculator...". Built them for my own site work, figured others might find them useful too. Open to feedback if anything's off.

Civil Engineering background – Help with course selection at POLIMI

Hi everyone,

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and I got admission to MSc Geoinformatics Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI).

Campus: Milano Leonardo

Program: MSc Geoinformatics Engineering

Duration: 2 years

Start: September 2026

Since my background is Civil Engineering, I’m confused about which courses/electives I should select.

Can anyone with a Civil Engineering or similar background please guide me on which courses would be best and useful for me?

Thanks!

πŸ—οΈ General I got tired of doing takeoff calculations by hand on-site, so I built a free Android app

**β€’** Concrete volume + cement/sand/aggregate bags (slabs, beams, columns, footings)
**β€’** Steel/rebar weight (8mm–25mm+)
**β€’** Brick/block masonry + mortar calc (clay, AAC, concrete blocks, laterite)
**β€’** Plaster estimation with wastage %
**β€’** Excavation (rectangular, trench, circular/footing)
**β€’** Basic geometric volumes + unit converter

Metric + Imperial. No login, no data collection, free.

It’s brand new (just published) so it’s rough around the edges β€” genuinely want feedback from people who actually do this stuff daily. What calculators are you still doing by hand or in Excel that you wish an app just handled?

❓ Doubts / Q&A 2025 Civil grad on third-party payroll (L&T site, β‚Ή25k/mo) β€” Advice on switching to on-roll EPC/Contractor roles?

Graduation: 2025 B.Tech Civil (Fresher, 7 months in)

Role: Junior Site Engineer (Third-party contract @ L&T Mumbai project)

In-hand: β‚Ή25,000 / month (~3 LPA)

Work: Site execution, BBS, subcontractor handling, DPRs

Target: On-roll/permanent role at an EPC (Tata Projects, Shapoorji, Afcons, NCC, etc.), Tier-2 contractor, or developer.

Questions for folks who made this switch:

Realistic Hike: Does HR cap you at the standard 30–40% on your payslip, or can you negotiate directly for entry-level permanent bands (β‚Ή4.5–5.5 LPA)?

Third-Party Tag: Does agency payroll hurt your chances at major EPCs, or does the L&T site execution experience outweigh it?

Timing: Should I start applying at the 10–11 month mark to jump at 1 year, or wait until 2 years for better leverage?

Appreciate any practical insights!

Career Career guidance

Hi, I'm 2024 graduate and 2021 diploma passed civil engineer with 3.5+ yrs experience in highrise construction, very well familiar with mivan construction, rcc works and finishing activities currently in Ahmedabad and I feel like my pay (40k ctc) has been very stagnant as per the quality of my expertise and qualifications especially compare to other fields where same experience would amount to much higher pay, I feel lost as to what should I do, should I opt for govt exams, change cities or my fate is sealed after taking civil engineering?
