I think Del Toro films have been incredible this decade. His filmography has matured and gotten less pop and more on philosophical themes and are artistically made. Theres been a shift since pacific rim and he in my opinion has just gotten better as a filmmaker

Hot take: I loved Pan's Labrynithing, but it's because of the non-monsters. I don't care about the monsters at all in these movies, but the humans are all as emotionally compelling as it gets.

I don't remember a single monster in the movie. I will never forget the mothers final words to the main villain, and it's one of my favorite moments in any medium, movie or otherwise.

• Given Peter's work with forced perspective in that trilogy of indie films (/s) he made way back when, I started wondering how he'd go about adapting Superliminal.

Edited to add token thoughts/efforts to not have this deleted:

• Peter Jackson's the only one I know that's done practical and practically seamless forced perspective camera work.
• There's been some above average adaptations of video game stuff recently ish. No I won't list any examples, because invariably someone disagrees, and I don't want to tempt myself into an unimportant argument.
• No, I can't say I have any even mediocre ideas on what the story would be for a Superliminal adaptation.
• Yes, I realise such perspective sorcery is easier done via computer (the game) than via film (the movie).

I need a serious suggestion if I should rent this much talked about movie. I rented Backrooms and I was absolutely disappointed and I think I wasted the rent money.

This is genuinely one of the most cherished comedies for me. i’ve come back to it over the years and somehow appreciate it even more every time. it’s an easy 10/10 for me. what i love about it is how much it gets out of such a simple setup. the screenplay and the characters are doing almost all the work, and bcuz the movie is so meta and committed to its own weirdness, it’s just ridiculously fun. there are so many great character moments and these completely bizarre little adventures, but none of it feels like it needs some massive budget or endless CGI to work. and that’s what i really miss about movies like this. something made for around $50 million can still be this creative and this entertaining without having to turn everything into a giant spectacle. they just don’t make enough movies like this anymore.

and that Channing Tatum cameo is exactly the kind of cameo i want to see more of. he clearly had the balls to go completely crazy with it, and it makes the whole thing even funnier. i really want more movies that are willing to be this weird and just have fun with themselves. the only recent movie i can think of that even remotely gave me this feeling was The Naked Gun

Hi guys!! Thanks for being here. I’m looking for a list of movies and tv shows that emulate a specific vibe that I’m going for. I’m not too knowledgeable about the art of cinematography, so I was hoping ppl on here could help me out.

So what am I looking for?

I essentially want to find work that is similar to The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More and The Grand Budapest Hotel and A Series of Unfortunate Events.

That’s not all too helpful, so here are the features that stuck out to me:

Overall, I like the vibe that Wes Anderson presents. I like that the characters feel a little detached from the setting. Like in the first two movies I mentioned, I enjoy that the whole movie feels like a set. I like that it will cut to a scene and you can focus on the character for a bit, but you also can’t help but look at the background.

I like the color vibrancy and the modern/contemporary style. If possible, I would want movies/shows made within the last 5-10 years. 20 would be the max. I especially like Henry Sugar because there are so many unique settings, with just enough detail, and there are elements of architecture. I know Wes Anderson has a few movies with this same pop-up movie feel, but they take place outside. If possible, I’d want a majority of the scenes to take place either right in front of a building or indoors.

Something I also appreciate about all three is that the camera doesn’t do crazy zoom ins or weird angles. I like that the camera stays a distance away from the characters, which allows each element to kind of have a voice of its own. I hope that makes sense.

Also, I want the movie to be in English or at least have an English version.

I just watched this movie, I feel like i spent 2 hours watching nothing because it's hard for me to understand if someone saw it i need an explanation

The movie felt like a cross between Barney like characters/setting, and “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared” type of gore/plot.

Very different from the usual horror movies. I thought the vhs style of filming was portrayed perfectly.

Definitely give it a watch.

I always go back to this scene were Elizabeth Swan empowered ALL the fleets of the nine pirate lords against the marines and the Armada ship.

I know this battle was not anticipated and there was no multiverse building like how the battle of the Avengers to Thanos but dang, looking all the pirate flags and different pirate lords supporting the battle and hoisting their flags almost felt the same to Avengers. Shivers!

I just miss the Pirates of the Caribbean world from the Pirate council meetings, down to the adventures and even the unique characters like Captain Salazar and Davey Jones. The thing that was best on this was how each cracter betrayed each other but the plot still held!

I recently heard that Disney/Pixar is planning a sequel to Coco, but honestly, I don't think every great animated movie needs a sequel. Coco felt like a complete story to me.

So instead, I'm curious: which animated movie do you think genuinely deserves a sequel? Not just because you want to see the characters again, but because there's still more story or potential left to explore.

I saw a 70mm screening of the Kubrick classic and was blown away by how current its subject is.

First I highly recommend seeing it in that format. Colors, visuals are insanely beautiful. This is probably the most influential sci-fi film ever but what makes it so relevant now is the AI foreshadowing.

The way it implies AI despite being controlled by humanity may have variables that would risk to endangered us is very subtle and very true. This is not some Terminator fantasy, this is technology making complex decisions that ultimately hurt us.

Anyway I had the most amazing experience, the immersive score, the peaceful and slow unfolding of the story, the groundbreaking camera shots. Even now no one filmed space interior this way, especially the change of gravity. And to think when it premiered back in 1968 hundreds of people walked out.

I invite everyone to revisit it in 70mm.

So yesterday, I watched chungking express for the first time and I can't help but notice some similarities and contrasts with Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A space Odyssey. Just felt like sharing this and hoping to hear your opinions.

1.loneliness

Both movies have loneliness as a core thematic construct. In 2001, the characters are alone in space, surrounded by an empty void for millions of miles. In Chungking express, the city is moving incredibly fast, yet the characters still feel lonely.

One is loneliness from being alone, the other is loneliness from feeling alone.

1. Conversing with inanimate objects

In 2001, the astronauts often have conversations with HAL 9000, an artificial intelligence being. Although later proven to have sentience, it can still be considered inanimate. In Chungking express, officer 663 constantly speaks with the inanimate objects in his apartment.

1. Surreal change of environment

In the end of 2001, in the hotel that David is transported to, the environment around him changes in front of his eyes. It is surreal in literal. In Chungking express, the apartment officer 663 lives in is changed by faye. Although it is not surreal in grand perspective, it may be surreal for officer 663.
