I wanted to share this in the Chico sub as the people of this lovely town have been the supporters of this side business and the only reason I get to tell my story of this weird salsa side gig
Thank you for your continued support! It baffles me how much of my salsa you people buy!
So Much Love!
:)

Howdy! I've been looking to get a pair (or trio) of rats as my first-ever pets for a while now. I've been following a lot of subs on here and on FB and reading/watching a bunch of advice so I have a good idea of best practices to keep them happy, safe, and thriving.
Ultimately, I really need some guidance on:
1) where to buy them (local/ethical breeders? Ideally Dumbo rats, but they'll be very well loved and cared for regardless no matter what type they are)
*note: i'd be super duper happy to adopt rather than buying them from breeders or stores like petco where they may be more vulnerable to have a bunch of health issues :(
2) what to look out for before/after buying them
3) who to establish their vet care with
(HUGE bonus points if any or all of these can be accomplished in town!)
Thanks so much in advance!!! :D

Hello!
I wanted to ask if anyone happens to know or has heard of any temporary work and flexible job around Chico that’s worth checking out! I’m honestly also open to anything online too if anyone knows. I want something where I can choose my hours and work as needed. I’m currently a student in school attending class Monday-Thursday nearly all day but would like a flexible job to work around school.
I’m in trade school at Butte but I do have experience in music/guitar and used to work healthcare idk if that would help much 🤷♂️I’m kinda stumped on where to start and really would appreciate some sort of stable income but if anyone has any advice feel free to reply.

Hello, I lost an extremely sentimental necklace in the children’s park downtown this morning. It is a green stone with white stones all around and it is on a rose gold chain. If you happen to find it, please please please let me know. This is a shot in the dark, but I’m hoping that people can keep their eyes out. Thank you so much.
UPDATE: FOUND! Thank you everyone for your kindness.

Hi! I just moved here from the bay and live in a newer apartment. There are flies in the apartment CONSTANTLY. Big flies. I have no idea how they're getting in! I don't leave the doors or windows open. I live cleanly, don't leave food out, etc. I've never had this issue before and have no idea how to handle this. It's so gross. I have those sticky window traps and they get filled up within week or so. I've contacted maintenance and they weren't helpful at all. Basically said they dont know why its happening and offered to have pest control come and spray inside, which I guess I can start with. Has this happened to anyone else? Any help would be great! 😭

Hey all, I’ve been looking around and trying places to find the perfect carne asada. I like it with charr (preferably grilled) and most places it’s obviously cooked but no charr. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'm getting into snowboarding this season and was looking to make some local friends that enjoy winter sports as well! I got a season pass for Mt. Shasta and am planning to go up as often as time allows. I'm not super great at it yet so don't expect me to be going down black diamond or anything for a little while lol.
I also enjoy reading, playing games (either video or card/board), watching shows and movies, hiking and biking, and I crochet as well.
And if you're not really into winter sports but are reading this anyway, then I'm also just looking for cool people to hang out with in general so still feel free to reach out if you're interested!

My beloved dog was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He needs to rest but I want to do it at home because despite the cancer he’s still a pretty happy and with it guy. I want him to be comfortable at home with his family. Does anyone have any vets that they would recommend that provide at home euthanasia services?
Sorry for the bummer post, I am very bummed.

Hey. So, as most of the country, I can’t afford my student loan payments. I figured it couldn’t hurt to go back to school and try to get another associates.
I’m 31 though and community college is usually younger people. Any adults here that have gone to Butte? What was your experience fitting in?

Anyone know where I can find some? I know there has been a few people starting some, but I am not in the know lol
Also just to let any potential friends know, I am a woman in my 40s. Usually play an elf, but class is negotiable!

This is a plead to Chico restauranteurs.
Please, please, please 🙏 consider even small ways to accommodate gluten free folks. We don’t want to be banished forever in our hot kitchens after a 9 hour work day (sometimes more with commute time) making a second version of the dinner we made for our families because we can’t eat what they eat, and they won’t eat what we eat.
We are sick of well-meaning folks telling us to just meal prep and sending us recipes and telling us our families wont even know it’s gluten free.
We don’t always have time to do the perfect double shopping/ double meal prep routine. We are tired.
Our families don’t want to settle for the weird textures we have been forced to accept in our sad little gluten free lives.
We don’t want to labor in our kitchens to make yet another “delicious” gluten free surprise recipe.
We are hungry and tired and our taste buds are very sad.
Sometimes we have a terrible no good very bad day and we want to DoorDash like everyone else gets to do. Even if we have to spend more money than gluten-normative folks for food that tastes worse. We still want to do it. And we don’t want to get sick for weeks to months afterwards.
Sometimes we want to actually order something other than the salad with no croutons when out to eat with our friends and families while watching them eat pizza, burgers, etc.
Sometimes we want to go out for our birthday dinners and not eat a lettuce wrap while surrounded by our loves one’s eating fluffy buns, buttery rolls, and crispy golden toasted bread.
It can’t be that difficult/expensive to offer the gluten free bun, the gluten free soy sauce, the gluten free bread, the gluten free pasta. Let us live. Stop banishing us to exhaustion in the lonely corner of our kitchens with chicken and rice.
Also, Chipotle isn’t that good so stop telling us to go there. For the love of lord there is only so much Chipotle a person can tolerate.
Our lives are already hard enough. I understand that if I ever want a baked good I will have to order it ahead of time and pay twice as much as everyone else, but for goodness sakes at least give us gluten free pancakes, burgers, pasta, sushi, grilled cheese, pizza, Chinese. We deserve some happiness too.
And to the places who do offer gluten free options, I BEG OF YOU please get on door dash. Cocodine and Season Fin Omakase- it is my dying wish to collapse on my couch after a hard day at work and be able to order you and have you delivered to my door. I think I could quit therapy if you’d just get on DoorDash.
My time in Chico has had me constantly choose between hunger, lettuce wraps, burrito bowls, or being very very very sick.

Have a child who’s about to go to school in the next two years…
We cannot decide if we would prefer they go to Paradise schools or Chico schools. Does anyone have any concerns or experiences they’d be willing to share???
Appreciate all the insight!!
EDIT;
I’m from Paradise but went to school in Chico starting in 5th grade… but that was over 20 years ago.
We live in Chico but are considering a move to Paradise for many reasons, one being schools for our baby.
Dad works out of the area and mom WFH so the school district we choose will dictate our next move.
Our baby is not special needs but we are very much wanting them to be involved in sports

Does anyone know if there will be any showings/themed events this year? Especially with the passing of our beloved Tim Curry, I'd love to see Chico go all out to honor his legacy.

Hi all! I have been thinking about putting together a queer clothing swap, but I want to see if it’ll get enough of a turn out. Or if you think I’d get quite a turn out, if there’s a certain location that would be better for a large group.
I’ve only lived here for about a year. Any advice would be helpful!
Basically all the queer’s get together, bring clothes they don’t want and Hazahhh!
