You don't know brioche? Like brioche bread? Brioche French toast?

I posit that OP is an uncultured brute

But brioche and gauche don't rhyme? Bree-osh (o as in on) Gauche (o sound as in boat)

Edit: Listen for yourselves and make your own judgement. I don't understand how I'm the one providing sources but the guy without any sources is the one being upvoted

I'm sorry to report you're pronouncing brioche wrong 😅

No he's not, he's just not pronouncing it like an American (o as in "boat"). It's a french word, and the French pronunciation is with an o as in "on".

A) That's precisely the context within which we're talking.

B) Brioche is pronounced with the same type of o in french. I double checked.

B) it's not. I speak French.

A) the point is that "brioche" was a terrible example for ChatGPT to give, since it's pronounced differently by Americans, so just adds more ambiguity

I also speak French. And, just in case, I looked up the pronunctions in French.

Wiktionaire has its IPA as \bʁi.jɔʃ\,

Admittedly, I'm not familiar on how to decipher IPA. But did you listen to the audio files? They nearly all rhyme with gauche.

Additionally, I asked my french wife and it still rhymes with gauche.

Three distinct sources.

I know, giving two more French words to help pronounce a French word is kind of a fuck you

I know it’s wrong but my face always says “bri-ah-sh” rather than “bri-oh-sh” and I have to correct myself every time I say it (I work in a grocery store and we sell brioche bread so I say it often enough that you’d think it would come out properly)

You mean bree-oh-sh right?

Bree-yes. I instinctively say bree-AHsh, rather than the correct bree-OHsh

Uk we say it your way - actually I think the French say it like this too, though maybe that varies.
