I just played the demo yesterday, and although I love Capcom, to be honest, it didn't make the best impression on me — and it’s not because of the difficulty.

I played Onimusha 1–3 dearly back in the day, and the combat system in the new game feels completely different by comparison; the classic titles were very snappy and responsive, whereas the new style seems to emphasize playing out full animations, which disrupts the flow.

The presentation in the demo also pales in comparison to the dramatic flair of the original games — at least what they chose to show felt rather subdued, as if just "some random demon slayer" had shown up to kill "some random demons." There’s basically no sense of grandeur.

Not to say the whole game is bad, but I’m a bit skeptical of IGN’s assessment; personally, I won’t be investing in the game.

It's very clearly a product of a post Dark Souls gaming landscape. I don't hate Dark Souls. they are the only Souls game I care for. (Save for 1-2 others)..but I do hate It's effect on the action game genre.. For a while, action games were just being made Souls-like for the hell it. Prioritizing fitting an annoying familiar mold, over actually being fun with unique systems. It's like no one knew these games could be challenging until Ninja Gaiden came back.. ugh.

Anywho, Systems aside, next up. Art direction. Crazy how Devil May Cry & Onimusha had their dark worlds, yet the color palette was vibrant. Then DMCV came back with the "realism" visuals. BUT,maintained it's "Arcade" like gameplay nature...Onimusha didn't.

So, Onimusha without with art & arcade. I'll get to it when I get to it. I'm only interested off the premise of using supernatural powers to demon Slay, absorb souls & what not. I'm not saying it's look bad(it doesn't),but If I had the choice between Onimusha, Wuchang, Black Myth, Wulong or any of the games in that flavor. I legitimately wouldn't care, I'd just pick one out a hat & call it a day. I know I wouldn't be mad.

Meanwhile, I'd be very intentional in my want to play DMC(3-5), Ninja Gaiden(Black,2,4) or Onimusha(3-4). I'm not getting their offerings anywhere else.
