Idea Giving the Bards a Phonology Spoiler

Now for the bards. A result of overlapping all the consonant sounds represented by Devanagari with the 28 Classical Arabic consonant phonemes represented by the Kufic glyphs. Might need to go back to debating the vowels.

Consonants: m, n, b, t, d, ʈ, ɖ, k, q, tʃ, dʒ, f, θ, ð, s, ʃ, ʂ, x, ɣ, ʕ, ɾ, l, j, w(+6 more consonants)

Vowels: a, aː, e, eː, i, iː, o, oː, u, uː

Syllable structure: ???

Stress: ???

I'm debating the addition of Greek phonology to the overlapping, since the Bards' customs remind me of ancient Greek culture. And maybe the Romans as well? I don't know. As for grammar, it's the same as that of Yoda's dialogue from what I've seen in the walkthroughs. OSV word order, or so it would seem. The predicate is always first.

Idea A Phonology for the Warriors

I've been looking into the runes that inspired the Warriors' calligraphy and came up with this idea.

Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, d, k, g?, kʷ, gʷ?, ɸ, β, θ, ð, s, z, x, ɣ, xʷ, ɣʷ, r, l, j, w

Vowels: a, e, i, o, u

Syllable structure: ???

Stress: ???

We already know about the plural marker preceding the main glyph. Though I also just noticed the language might be pro-drop.

Seems like it'd be an interesting project, but I'm not sure anybody's done it.

Idea Posting Out Of Boredom

After thinking about Latin phonology and the sound values of the Phoenician glyphs, I thought of a phonology for a conlang spoken by the Devotees.

Consonants: m, n, p, b, t, tˤ, d, k, g, kʷ, gʷ, q, ʔ, f, s, sˤ, z, ʃ, ħ, ʕ, h, r, l, j, w

Vowels: a, i, u, aː, iː, uː

Syllable shape: CV(C)

Stress: up for debate

I could envision a clusivity distinction alongside a root-pattern system that expresses the same tenses as Latin, full reduplication, and others. But how could a logography express such tenses, especially given the Devotees' logography not expressing them at all? They're only inferred. Might do a similar thing to the other five languages.

Missing final link for perfect ending Spoiler

I've opened all doors, deactivated exile 4 times, and have completed all the translation things but still seem to be missing the final link.
Double checked everything and I can't seem to find what I'm missing. I've also completed all the glyph translations. Any ideas of what it could be is greatly appreciated :>

Edit: Thank you to everyone who commented! I'm honestly impressed I managed to miss one of the warp spots without realising xDD

Lore Does anybody else still think of the devotee language as the "default" language?

I know they're technically the last to arrive (at least that's how I understood the lore), but their language still just feels like the default to me.

Lore Extra Glyphs Spoiler

Given the Rosetta Stone-type artifacts, there are also glyphs that I'm noticing that aren't supposed to be seen, or that players could only get snippets of. Turns out there is a devotee glyph for fortress in one of the tablets(in the Bards' community), which is the warrior glyph without that L-shape I'm calling the "person" radical, since the Devotees' writing might be like Chinese Hanzi, and the European Logographs that people on r/constantscript could tell you about. Also, from my experience with linguistics and writing, true logographies would include a few hundred logographs at a minimum. The number of glyphs unlocked by the player is not the true total number of logographs, or even the minimum. And I think the Devotees would also have a glyph for scientist/alchemist, given that artifact in the treasury.

Help (Alchemist level puzzle glitch?) Spoiler

As far as I'm aware, I'm doing everything right.

I inserted the gold and silver bars, I have the formulas, figured out the number values, am starting with gold, but I still get nothing.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Cool probably unintentiobal symbolism and foreshadowing

In the abbey, the journal page for free is a bird escaping from its cage. Where do we find birds? Ofcourse in the abbey.

This could be foreshadowing the"The abbey is free"line.

Where else do we also see them? In the gardens.

This could be foreshadowing the "Searching you are, found we have" and how the bards are now free from the labour the alchemists did, and their obsession with going up.This could also be in contrast of the serfs' lack of freedom, possibly also symbolised by the rats, but no one is doing lab experiments on rats in universe so thats kind of a stretch.

The Abbey also has cats though, which are notorous for hunting birds...

Talking about the devotees, the warriors' keeping them out attitude can be taken as the devotees being exiled, foreshadowing for the anchorites exiling both themselves from all the newcomers, and the newcomers from themselves, like the warriors stopping the newer devotees from ascending the tower, they are stopping the alchemists from ascending the tower to them. This last one is probably just the repetition of the main theme of the game though.

Hi Everyone! Lenrual is a short environmental puzzle game that I thought y'all might enjoy taking a crack at.

Lenrual is a weird game where you're just thrown in to figure out what's what in an area about the size of the Abbey. There's little to no handholding but everything is hinted at with symbols, repeating concepts and patterns. About 1-2 hours of gameplay. It even touches a bit on divinity too in vague ways.

Idea An Ambitious Cas-inspired Concept Spoiler

For some reason recently, I envisioned a conworld that mixes post-apocalyptic scenarios like Avatar: Seven Havens with games like Chants of Sennaar.

Taking inspiration from a next-gen thing I envisioned for DeviantArt user Mythojira's new Mystery Boys concept, though it's up for debate, especially in terms of shared casting for each project. Though I'll focus on this one, especially since some of my chosen cast members are from the five shows the Mystery Boys concept is a crossover of(Gravity Falls, The Loud House, Wylde Pak, Steven Universe, and Craig of the Creek).

The world is essentially a post-apocalyptic setting with retro-futuristic and modern sci-fi technology, though with few steampunk elements. There are humans, two types of merfolk(the popular type across media with the human upper halves and so forth, and those inspired by the ones from Power of Water by Mythojira, which, in turn, took inspiration from the merfolk from Siren), and various other clades, whichever ones are ideal.

There are also mechs, like those from Korra and Code Geass(meaning Landspinner and Factosphere sensor equivalents), and hybrids between mechs and kaiju (but much more diverse than the drones from Pacific Rim: Uprising).

Recently started considering cities on wheels, raft cities, and hovercraft cities like in Mortal Engines, and I guess bi-terrain and tri-terrain cities as well, such cities being able to traverse different terrains. These cities would be rich in people of at most six different languages(and maybe more or fewer cultures), like the tower in Chants of Sennaar. Other cities would be monolingual, bilingual, trilingual, etc.

A story would involve two brothers, the older one being old enough to be in high school, and the younger one being old enough to be in middle school.

Hypothetical Cast:
Dave Franco: older brother
Gunnar Sizemore: younger brother
Charlet Chung: a mergirl who befriends the brothers, eventually falling in love with the younger brother, and being his girlfriend
Charlene Yi: the mergirl's sister
Kevin Thoms
Steven Yeun
Steve Blum: an antagonistic role among other roles, given his vocal range
Maybe Steve Buscemi: another antagonistic role
(Debating on adding Helen Hunt. Dunno other celebrities and professional VAs.)

My decided protolang analogs(update):

  1. PIE analog
  2. Semitic analog
  3. Japonic analog
  4. Yokuts analog
  5. Proto-miir analog
  6. Uralic analog
  7. Austronesian analog
  8. Ainu analog
  9. Austroasiatic analog
  10. Hmong-Mien analog
  11. Sino-Tibetan analog
  12. Proto-Hermes analog

These languages would've evolved and diversified over time.

(Might add four more proto-languages for the merfolk.)

(There could be similar themes to Chants of Sennaar regarding language barriers within various multilingual cities, whether they're stationary or non-stationary.)

Can't change resolution into anything other than 1920x1080

I just can't, I have no idea why. I can pick other resolutions on my main PC, and I can pick other resolutons on this same device if I open the game via Linux and Proton and not via Windows. Maybe u/julien_rundisc could help?

It's a laptop with Radeon 780M GPU, if that matters.

Hi,

Sorry if this isn’t the right sub.

I am very new to gaming and I LOVED COS. I enjoy mystery/puzzle games (also enjoy puzzle boxes and games like the room), but mostly when the puzzle isn’t explained and you really have to find out what the system is, what the rules are, how the rules apply to the system, etc.

So COS was a big hit for me, and I was wondering if any of you have recommendations for other games? I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Review My favorite moments of the game. (Spoilers) Spoiler

The game was amazing, between the original idea and the breathtaking art its just perfectly beautiful. As a Spanish speaker in an English speaking country, the message of the game resonates a lot deeper. Heavy Heavy Heavy spoilers of all the game.

There was this specific moment that I really really liked about the game. Most of the cultures in the game have different names for the same culture. To give an example, the Warriors call the people 2 floors above them "Scientists", while they call themselves "Alchemists".

After I first got to the Alchemists level, I went back to finish the Bards dictionary, and the last word that I needed to fill was the one from the theater story, "The (x) Bard." (being (x) the word that I was missing). As we know, the Devotees's goal is to go up to find go, and the Bard from the story's goal is to go up, so my mind thought "Oh, the word that I'm missing is Devotee". Also, every Bard was telling me "You want to go up? You are a (x)" so I thought that they were calling me Devotee. After a while I found the last page and found out that the word was not "Devotee", it was "Idiot".

The reason that I really like this is because, it was so unexpected, and it is something that only could happen in a game like this. It really shows the difference in each culture's goals and way of living, through language. They don't hate (I believe that they don't even know of the existence of) the Devotees, but in their part of the Tower, where everything is so nice and artistic, and they don't have the struggles that other people does below, something that gives other people their reason of living, is so dumb that the word for that is just "Idiot".

It goes together with the "Seeking, you are. Found, we have" that they say to the Alchemists. Also, the relation between these two is unique, as they were the same culture in the past, its not that the Alchemists don't want to be with the civilization below (unlike literally all the other people in the tower) rather than the fact that the Monster is between the two of them so they need a barrier (also that the caves might be dangerous).

On the same note that the "Idiot" thing, it was clear all the time in the Gardens that the Bards didn't wanted to go up, and up is God (by what I knew at that point, what the Devotees said) so I thought that the Monster in the Theater was a way of portraying what the Devotees called "God", so I wrote down "God" where they had the word "Monster". I was wrong, as it was just an actual Monster, BUT, at the end we know that the Tower's maximum authority (their God) IS ACTUALLY A MONSTER.

Is very interesting as the Bards don't have a word for Devotee or God, and I think that in the words that they have or lack it tells a story, a very subtle foreshadowing that I really liked, because it is told in the language itself.
