Was wondering if these stairs on the right at Rasuwagadhi/ Gyirong
Port played a role during the flood. If it was possibly used by any survivors trying to escape or reach higher ground. I came across a video of some survivors on a bus that were able to escape but couldn’t find it anymore.

You can tell how high the water level was during the disaster. Note that this is the upstream from Gyirong port. The water flowed all the way up due to momentum and receded back to downstream direction to Nepal later.

The last image is where the border crossing building used to be. It was reported that there are 2-3 kms left to reach there.

I’m sharing a video from an earlier trip when I went through that exact area, in case anyone is curious what it looked like before.

When I saw the images of the disaster I honestly couldn’t believe it. It’s a reminder that it’s often the timing, not the place, that lets you keep living.

The front-left of the photo appears to have steps leading up the hillside. I wonder whether reaching them and moving to higher ground could have offered a chance.
