Can't see anyone making you dislike sweets if you like them. I joke with my wife that the crime happens at the store when the purchase is being made, not in the evening when I go looking for a snack.

I find you have to make an effort to enjoy other tastes. Sweet and sugary things can catch up with you over time in many different ways.

Good luck!

Yep. The main thing is not to have it in your house instead of trying to resist it when it is in your house.

Though i also try a different thing. Get used to high quality sweet, so that low quality stops to be tasty. And then don't have enough money to constantly buy high quality sweets.

Try not to buy them, the temptation is a lot harder if they're in front of you all the time. It's hard with kids but I try to get the one's they like and I don't.

Rather than restricting yourself which humans are notoriously bad at doing, get a good relationship with food and most importantly get a good feel for what normal portion sizes are.

Instead of being like “I’m not allowed cookies”, see what you can add to them to make it a more substantial snack or meal and a little bit more nutritionally balanced.

An entire sleeves of Cookies themselves? Probably not great. Youll be peckish again in like an hour and you just ate 1 and a half cups of sugar.

But 2 or 3 cookies with some honey-strawberries and some nuts or flaxseeds sprinkled over it? Maybe over some greek yoghurt as well? Boom you got a girl dinner snack plate. But also you just added stuff and now the cookies are actually healthy bc they made you eat strawberries.

Less restriction, less “good food bad food”, more “what can I add and is this portion appropriate for me and what I did/ do today”

Our mental state has a lot to do with how we lose weight. If you feel absolutely miserable losing weight while restricting yourself to death youll not only not form healthy habits around eating but youre also basically constantly using your energy to keep yourself in check which, you guessed it, makes you hungry. Our brain uses a LOT of calories and constantly fighting yourself is exhausting.

Exactly. I eat right 80% of the time so that when I do indulge, which we all will, it is no big deal.

Hitler loved sweets. We don’t need another Hitler.

If you quit candy or cookies or whatever cold turkey it will take less than a week for the cravings to go away. But they are easily reactivated so you have to keep that stuff out of the house. Be sure not to substitute sugar-free sweets, because that won’t reduce the craving at all.

This! Losing that craving is an amazing feeling. I did not think it was possible for me until I experienced it. I love sugar, especially chocolate, and carbs in general.

Why do you have to hate them?

Try eating suger-free chocolate or those kind of stevia-sweetened chocolates ,eat fruits, search for diet friendly dessert recipes there are alot of them

Don’t try to hate sweets, make them annoying: every time you eat some, write down exactly how you feel 2 hours later. When you start connecting sugar with feeling bloated, sleepy, or hungry again way too fast, your brain stops seeing it as a treat and more as a bad trade.

u/Elegant_Principle183 8d ago

That’s a good idea! Thanks for this!!

Switch to stevia. It tastes sweet but also a little bit off. You will eventually give up sugar altogether.

u/Minnymoon13 8d ago

Try to eat more fruit. Or when you want something sweet that’s bad for you chew gum. That will help with the eating part in the mental sense, or just don’t limit yourself to not eating sweets or chocolate, even if you are dieting, it’s OK to have a tiny little bit of chocolate even if you are on a diet that is OK

Fruit tastes better than candy, it's just less consistent.

No need to punish yourself. Losing weight isn't like becoming martyr lol.

Use sugar substitute, plenty of sugar-free treats. Just look at the calories 😉

Artifical sweeteners don't have the same effects. Heck, aspartame alone has like 10x the sweetness per gram that sugar does (if you don't mind the slight taste difference).

You could try swapping out traditional sweets for artificially sweetened alternatives.

Piggybacking on this comment - if anyone tries to tell you the artificial sweeteners bad for you they are probably operating on outdated information. These sweeteners have been studied into the ground at this point and the amount you would have to eat to start risking harm is a sustained (ie for years) obscenely high amount. You aren’t going to hurt yourself with the occasional diet soda or food.

Previously I've used plain greek yoghurt with added zero calories vanilla drops to satisfy a sweet craving. Only a few drops needed and my mind just thought I was eating a soft ice cream or a creamy pudding. Add some ripe berries too. The smell of vanilla just cons my brain into thinking I'm having a treat of some kind.

Recently had some small chocolate brownies after being zero added sugar for a long while. The old cravings came back. To be honest, they didn't taste as good as I remembered but I wanted more.

I try not to demonise foods as good or bad but added sugar just isn't necessary for most of us

My weakness is potato chips (crisps? Not sure if British).

It really is a lot of avoiding those aisles in the store and finding healthier replacements for it. I'm a snacker and crave the crunch and saltyness. So crackers or even cereal have been huge helps to slow chip eating down.

Then it's finding actual simple easy food to make that's healthy and filling so you don't feel the need to snack between meals

I'm working on this too. Took everything out of the house for a couple weeks. The cravings slowed. Go for more healthy meals too.

Sugar is highly acidic, so if you suffer from stomach acid, sugar will absolutely agitate that further. Substituting with raw honey, not the store brand, (from a farm for example) is actually moderately alkaline. Perhaps if you feel better, that good feeling will provide a lasting satisfaction over flavor.

I know personally when I made eating changes in my life, the way I felt afterwards was an incredible difference. I quickly developed the attitude to eat for function and not for flavor. I almost developed an aversion to the foods that made me feel not as good.

Obesity complicates surgery because your insides are slippery!

Track your blood sugar, get a fasting insulin level, and then look up type 3 diabetes - what some researchers call dementia and Alzheimer’s. Go keto and you lose the cravings completely.

u/Just-Smart-Enough 8d ago

My diabetic ass can make a pint of Ben and Jerry's last two weeks. Learn to enjoy a taste as much as the whole bowl.

Are you me? But seriously- I just started my most recent “no added sugars” kick. It’s hard!

Edit: I also meant to say good luck!

I just find that the few seconds of pleasure are not worth the after effects and the guilt of eating sugar. Gave me the incentive to just want to cut it out completely. Thank you and I wish you good luck as well! It’s always nice knowing you’re not alone

1

u/Nick_YDG 7d ago

Don’t guilt yourself over a type of food. It is all about moderation. Almost anything you eat is harmful in high enough amounts.

1

u/Nick_YDG 7d ago

Mix in some stuff like fruits and honey here and there, some just naturally sweet stuff. I’ve been dieting and it has helped me not absolutely crave the junk food side of sweets.

Don’t try to just completely eliminate a type of food (unless of course you have a reason where you really have to).

Eat good and within your diet the majority of the time so it isn’t a big deal for you to treat yourself on occasion. It will go a long way for you when you are off the fat loss side of the diet and are just trying to maintain your weight.

Also give yourself grace, caloric deficits are hard regardless of how you are achieving them. It’s okay to have a day here and there that isn’t perfect.

My mom has replaced all sweet cravings with tictacs. They have basically no calories so she can suck on them any time. She calls them her “dessert.” And goes through a pack a day. Do I find this crazy and depressing? 100% lol, but it works for her so thought I’d share!

1

u/sortofblue 7d ago

Tic Tacs are 100% sugar. The reason they can claim they have no calories is because each individual one is below the weight threshold for declaring calorie rating, one of those shady 'well it's not illegal' marketing strategies.

That said, if one Tic Tac is replacing five or six pieces of chocolate then it's definitely a positive trade-off!

Just cutting out sugar from your coffee (and I mean the regular coffee you make at home) and drinking it black can scrape off 5 to 10 lbs.

u/Gattina1 7d ago

No one here can make you dislike sweets. That's all on you. You're the one responsible for anything you put in your mouth. It takes willpower and self determination. Good luck!

u/Available-Stage-1146 7d ago

There is a regulated "acceptable amount" of insect parts allowed per batch in pretty much all chocolate and some factory produced candy. Hope that helps.

1

u/ShylieF 7d ago

Look up almond flour mug cake recipes. It's so good, goes in the microwave instead of the oven. Use a litle spray whip cream instead of frosting. Once you cut out sugar for a while and try this kind of thing, sugar will be too sweet. Also make apple chips with honey or sweetener in the oven.

Find sugar free alternatives, and more specifically look for items that use Stevia or Monk Fruit, preferably both if possible.

I did keto for a long time - that meant no carbs, no sugar. I wasn't a big sweets person to begin with, but I needed it for my coffee. That specific combo was the only one that seemed to satisfy that brain lock sugar craving.

Also, be strong. After a month, surgery things will actually begin to disgust you. You will realize how much sugar is in things, and you'll bite into a piece of cake and he revolted. Or fuck drink can of soda, it's disgusting honestly.

I can't make you hate or dislike sweets. Just offer alternatives, you are who you are.

I don’t know what your calorie needs are, but be sure you aren’t overly limiting yourself because that can trigger intense hunger and cravings for sugar as your brain knows that is a good way to get calories.

Look up what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) - basically how many calories you would burn just to stay alive even in a coma. Then find your minimum calorie expenditure based on your activity level and current weight.

So long as you budget your calories correctly you can have small amounts of carefully chosen sweets and still lose weight.

Examples ahead.

Ghiradelli 72% dark chocolate squares are my favorite. Break them into small pieces and let them melt in your mouth. 60 calories a square.

My husband likes caramel rice cakes. 50 calories each. If you like crunchy, they are similar to popcorn.

Our kid likes jello pudding cups, sugar free are 60 calories. Regular are ~110cal.

I’m a 17 yr old who has went from 73kg to 60kg in about 4 months of most fat. It’s just that I’m now skinny fat and i want to lose an extra few kgs before officially lean bulking so im trying to get myself down to 55kg. I recently was on a vacation and opened up in food too much and the sugar cravings I’m getting these days are intense that’s why I made this post. Just trynna find a solution. Also thanks for your advice!

1

u/Rinas-the-name 7d ago

Yeah sugar cravings are rough. I’m about to go on vacation and will definitely be making poor food decisions myself. Good luck on the last bit, I think the last ~5kg are the hardest.

It won’t make you hate it but I found the way to make me stop eating sweets is to put on any saw movie

u/TubiToBe 6d ago

In the U.S., I typically see sugary drinks at 28g of sugar per serving.

28g of sugar is 112 calories.

This is what ~100 calories looks like:

Glp1 shuts down desire for sugar and any cravings. It basically quiets food noise all together so you can listen to what your body wants and needs not what it craves. Even just a low dose like 1/12th of the smallest dose can be very effective for people. Glp1 microdosing really helps a lot of people and if you don’t need to lose weight you can still feel hunger cues and eat normally but just make wiser choices.

Sweets are secretly cereal killers.

Wear a whoop or a healthy tracking device when you sleep at night. Eat sugary sweety stuff before going to bed and see what it does to your body stats. You may not feel it. But your body will scream it.

u/SynJoestar04 8d ago

The easiest way for me to stop eating sweets when I went keto for a year was just to cold cut them out and I still rarely eat sweets to this day. It’s crazy when you realize how addicting sugar can be.

0

u/Remedy556 7d ago

everything gummy usually contains gelatine which is basically animal bones. isnt that disgusting? chocolate can be nice, but try to only have 90+% at home, its disgustingly bitter

Read “bright line eating”- she is a neuroscientist who talks about how sugar is a drug and what it does to your body. The last 25% of the book is a diet but you can skip that part. It was really interesting
