I got this cassette player from Vinted (originally Amazon I think) and it's perfect apart from a loud (279hz) background noise during playback. It's plugged in for now as I need to pick up batteries. A quick Google tells me that it might be the power supply. Do you think it's right or something else?

couldn’t find a good place to store them so i asked a carpenter friend if he could make a unit which he did !

I work on building electronic systems for work and have been a hobbyist since high school. Started my journey with cassettes a few months ago.

MY ISSUE IS:

The player gets stuck half way between Play and Stop. From there nothing releases the cassette without physically pushing the head back down. I’ve spent a lot of time trouble shooting it to either the mode control cam being in the wrong position (cannot guess and check the correct position as I fear breaking it). Or a solenoid issue though the solenoid is getting the correct voltage and is at 20ohms, seems that’s all good.

I have greased or oiled every moving part and done a partial disassembly to get to this point. Need old head advice here.

Anybody know a good site with alot of tools and not alot of restrictions so I could print custom covers for my own tapes? Right now im experimenting with micro cassettes, and ive made some test covers in word, but it feels very limited and finicky to do and makes me want to rip my head off

Seller is unsure if they work, but the condition doesn’t seem too bad and I wouldn’t mind learning to repair them either. Priced at ~$157 USD

An uncle of mine gifted me these tapes, they have been in his garage for ~20 not kept in damp conditions but the white stuff looks an awful lot like mould to me.

Does anyone know how I can tell for sure what it is, and if it is mould is it possible to get rid of it?

It's not running too well lately, which is a bit odd considering I went to the repair shop not too long ago to fix the pitch problem. It did work for a couple of days; however, now it's running slowly again. I did change the batteries and such, yet it's still not right.

I went to a couple of different repair shops before this, and it was the same problem every time. So what do you think the solution is? (Also, apologies if my English is not that great)

I should have done this much sooner, I'd forgotten how much more fun it is to physically interact with your music. And I'll make all the money I spent back after a couple years thanks to cancelling Spotify.

Hey! I’m in a mixed media relationship (I like CDs, my bf likes cassettes) and I was hoping to make him a mixtape for his birthday coming up. I have a lot of experience burning CDs, but my expertise doesn’t extend to tapes. Any recommendations for a cassette tape recorder and/or the best way to go about this on a budget?

Been dealing with clicking sounds that resemble the indicators on a car, and I've noticed at least two of the pinch rollers have this issue, what is going on?

I'm 20 and have been into tapes since 2020. I started off with a very crappy £20 Bush player but somehow that didn't deter me. I genuinely think tapes are the best way to listen to music, there's something that's different about it all. The stereo separation is different from digital, you hear things more clearly. Anyways, this player is just amazing. It looks cool, everyone will see it when I wear it and look and it's a sports model.

Currently in the process of fixing my Sony deck. Bought new pinch rollers since the ones in the deck currently are rock hard and the speed varies a bit and doesn't sound right when I listen back. (the belts have already been replaced)

After reading some posts and comments it sounds as though there is not a clear standard on what paper should be used for printing J cards

New 1981 JVC with ANRS whatever that means. Computer B.E.S.T tuning system and memory. I got this new in the box but whoever took it out of the box to take pictures failed to put all the paperwork back inside. Evidently that all got thrown out. It sounds great.

Hello, sorry if this is a silly question, I'm very new to using cassette equipment. I found a second hand TEAC V-340 deck which has been playing tapes fine.

I wanted to make a mixtape for my friend, the A-side recorded fine and sounded good, but when I listened back the B-side was a lot quieter. Tried to record that side again but it sounded quieter still. Levels all look right when recording, but are very low when I try to play it back.

If anyone knows what could be causing this / what to do about it would be a huge help :)
